Recovery Partners are a small user-led mental health charity working across East Sussex. All of our staff have lived experience of mental health challenges. Our Peer Support Specialists are trained, employed and supported to inspire others in wellbeing and recovery. We offer services to individuals and groups.

We are at an exciting and pivotal stage in our journey. As we grow and strengthen our peer support approach within our communities, we are looking to broaden the skills and perspectives of our trustees.

What will you be doing?

Our trustees play an important role in making sure that the charity is run in the interests of those we support. They strategically oversee the management and administration of the organisation.

Trustees also ensure the charity has a clear strategy and that our work and goals are in line with our vision. Just as importantly, they support and challenge the executive team to enable the charity to grow and thrive, and through this, achieve our mission.

Time commitment estimated 8 hours per month.

We are seeking to appoint a voluntary Trustee for our charity who will also take up the role as our secretary.

We are looking for someone who wants to make a difference; helping build & grow the charity with the benefit of good governance. 

Is this role for me?

As you would expect the secretary role will be responsible for supporting the Chair by making sure meetings are communicated, agendas are developed, & that minutes are produced with actions followed up. It would also involve maintaining a well-organised filing system of critical documents, policies & governance records, as well as ensuring compliance with reporting requirements such as Charity Commission filings. But this will not be a case of walking in & taking over the reins; we are going through a period of change & are looking for someone who will help us put in place the processes & controls needed for a well-run charity. 

We are looking for a secretary who will push us & keep us on track. Make no mistake, it will certainly be hard work initially as it will take some time as we work to get everything in place, so you would need to be ready to commit to this. Once things become established then it would be up to you just how much time you want to dedicate beyond keeping everything on track. 

Who is The League of Friends of St Mark’s Hospital Maidenhead?

The League of Friends have been supporting patients in St Mark’s Hospital for over 50 years, helping to provide equipment & an environment that enhances their comfort & care.

We maintain the gardens in the Henry Tudor ward & in Out-Patients, including providing outdoor furniture & planting, as well as providing a range of daily newspapers & making sure a nice cup of Nespresso coffee is available too. We have also helped the hospital over recent years by providing; a cardiac resuscitator, an ECG module, hydraulic treatment couches, specialised podiatry & audiology equipment, and software for a Dexta bone density scanner.

Why are you recruiting now?

While we are proud that we have been supporting St Mark’s for over 50 years, including during the COVID19 pandemic, we have recognised that we now need to need to “regroup”.

The charity has identified 2 immediate objectives; firstly, to develop our fundraising efforts as these have slipped since the pandemic, & secondly, to introduce standards of governance which ensure we fulfil statutory obligations & achieve best practice within a small charity environment. 

We have recently appointed a new Treasurer to strengthen financial controls, & a further trustee with responsibility for developing our marketing effort which will provide a firm footing for fund raising. Further trustees have recently been appointed which support our charitable giving within the hospital. But we recognise that we are lacking the skills, knowledge & disciplines that a good secretary can provide. 

What sort of person do I need to be?

• Knowledgeable of charity regulations & best practice - or not frightened to find them out & go on to implement them
• A self-starter who is able to drive us towards the changes needed

How much time would I need to dedicate?

You would need to have enough time to arrange, plan & follow up on Trustee meetings. At present these typically take place in alternate months but there may be a need to move these to monthly as the charity grows. One of these meetings will also include the AGM. Meetings are held in Maidenhead.

As secretary there will be other activities which will require action between meetings, for example, keeping the Charity Commission updated, maintaining policies & renewing insurance. While these activities are not onerous their timely upkeep is obviously important.

One of the key features of this appointment will be the need to drive change & establish good governance within the charity. Although we are looking for someone who can help move this forward at speed, we also recognise that “Rome wasn’t built in a day”!

This is a volunteer role & necessary expenses incurred will be reimbursed.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an early career Junior Media and Communications Officer to be based with an NGO in the heart of Madagascar.

Living in the coastal town of Fort Dauphin in the southeast of Madagascar, this role will support the team managing SEED’s media and communication work. The successful candidate will work with both national and international staff to assist on a wide variety of tasks, from supporting with planning and scheduling content across our range of social media platforms, creating digital media for marketing and social media and day-to-day administration tasks. The role is predominantly office based with some ad-hoc travel to our rural projects. The diversity of activities undertaken will provide a wide-ranging experience for an early career communications and media professional who can effectively and efficiently deal with a comprehensive range of tasks related to the complex world of overseas development work.

Location: Fort Dauphin, Anosy Region, Madagascar
Commitment: 12 months extendable
Salary: Voluntary, with stipend contribution to living expenses and £650 contribution to insurance

Duties and responsibilities

• Create and write social media, website and newsletter content with staff across all departments in line with SEED’s strategy

• Work with the Senior Media and Communications Officer to develop and edit content, ensuring different platforms are used to best advantage SEED’s positioning 

• Provide timely, day to day monitoring and replying to questions and debates across platforms

• Support the development and strategy of individual giving and fundraising campaigns, through all stages

• Work with the Senior Media and Communications Officer and Project Officers to storyboard and develop content as well as engaging and creative social media and awareness-raising campaigns 

• Support the review and evaluation of social media platforms against marketing KPIs 

• Occasional travel to field sites to generate content to be used on social media and other outlets at the direction of Senior Media and Communications Officer 

• Shoot and edit visual high quality content that documents project activities at a national and international level

• Build capacity within the wider team, improving communication between teams internally and with external partners

• Support with the promotion of the organisation through editing blogs and articles

• Work with the IT Officer to maintain and advance the organisation’s website

• Ensure distinctive and consistent brand identity across all communication outputs

• Provide research as directed on industry trends, potential partners and content topics

• Ensure all of SEED’s policies and procedures are evident throughout the work of the department, including those for safeguarding, whistleblowing and anti-corruption, and undertake continual training to ensure these are promoted at all times

Person specification

• Demonstrate a working knowledge of high-quality photo and video content generation and management

• Have experience of creating social media content, marketing or promotional work in line with SEED’s values 

• Willingness to develop visual content using editing skills with software including Canva

• Display exceptional verbal and written communication skills

About the Organisation

SEED Madagascar is a British Charity working in partnership with communities in the south east of Madagascar. We integrate high quality community health, rural livelihoods, education infrastructure and conservation programmes to support long term, sustainable change and add to international best practice through research and publication across all of our programmatic areas. Trustees play a vital role in ensuring Edinburgh North East Foodbank meets its core purpose by overseeing the management and administration of the charity and ensuring that the foodbank has a clear strategy in line with our vision and goals.

What will you be doing?

Trustees have collective responsibilities for the oversight and development of the Charity in conformity with OSCR regulations and applicable law. The Trustees agree strategy and governance arrangements and work with the staff to deliver Edinburgh North East Foodbank services efficiently and effectively.

What being a Trustee Involves

We hold five Board meetings a year, normally the last Tuesday in the month from 6pm until 8pm, with our AGM being held in April/May.

Trustees are expected to attend the Board meetings either in person or remotely as often as possible, with everyone attending the AGM.

Trustees are not expected to attend the Foodbank frequently but are encouraged to visit from time-to-time to become familiar with the work of the Foodbank and to speak with staff and volunteers.

Trustees should make time to build up relationships with, get to know their fellow Trustees, staff and volunteers to foster a team spirit and understand the challenges that colleagues face and the responsibilities they carry.

Trustees should try to keep up with external developments and trends that might impact the work of the Charity. This will help with Board discussions and understand what could present as threat or opportunity for the Charity.

As a Board we need to be aware that the governance landscape is always changing. Trustees need to learn and develop and stay abreast of the new developments, best practice and legislation.

Governance

The Trustees must make sure that the Charity complies with its governing documents. (Charity Constitution) and complies with charity law requirements and regulations that apply.

Ultimate responsibility for the governing of Edinburgh North East Foodbank lies with the Trustees who must direct how it is managed and run. Trustees must act in the Charity’s best interest, manage its resources responsibly, act with reasonable skill and care, maintain oversight and make sure that it is working towards its charitable objectives.

It should be noted that some people may not act as a Trustee e.g. someone who is bankrupt or has an unspent conviction for offences involving dishonesty or deceit.

Trustees must declare if on any occasion they have a personal interest which may conflict with the interest of the charity.

What are we looking for?

We rely on the dedication and expertise of the people who volunteer to become board members. We welcome applications from people who have an interest in a society where everyone has the means to buy the essentials and so reduce the need for using food banks.

CKT funds music lessons for children in Surrey who would not otherwise be able to afford them. We are looking for someone to manage our give a gig fundraising programme with the objective of maximising  the amount of funds raised  and developing long term relationships with gig givers

Specific tasks 

• Liaising with and between gig givers, speakers and other volunteers in advance of gigs to ensure the smooth running and maximise fund raising at gigs Working with the roster administrator to ensure that sufficient speakers and volunteers are available at each gig
• Ensuring that CKT team at each gig have necessary flyers, banners, buckets and gift aid Ensuring appropriate follow up after gigs including notifying the treasurer and trustees of sums raised, thanking gig givers and volunteers and banking cash collected at gigs
• Maintaining and keeping up to date the master give a gig spreadsheet, the summary list of recent and upcoming gigs in agendas and minutes and the list of past and upcoming gigs on the CKT website
• Helping organise fund raising concerts and donor events run by CKT itself from time to time
• Attending and contributing to board meetings as a CKT manager
• Attending concerts from time to time as a CKT volunteer
• Performing such other tasks and activities for CKT as skills and time allow

You will be guided in your role by the trustee or trustees with fund raising responsibilities The role may or may not include monitoring the health of the give a gig funnel and identification of and approaches to new and past gig givers for new gigs

Gig givers include all choirs, orchestras, bands, festivals and venues who have agreed to raise funds for CKT

Skills and experience required

Love for music and belief in the importance of music education for all young people You will probably enjoy going to concerts and gigs yourself

Good organisational skills, attention to detail, ability to methodically follow, apply and improve standard processes

High standard of written communication (by email)

Good people skills

Basic familiarity with operation of (non-numeric aspects of) simple excel spreadsheets and shared drives used for data and record keeping purposes

Expectations: 

• Commitment: A commitment of three years to this voluntary role

• Meetings: Attend four half-day board meetings and one AGM each year, which are typically held in Stratford, London, or remotely. 

• Sub-Committees: Participate in one of our sub-committees to help guide specific areas of our work. 

• External Events: Attend 2-3 fundraising events each year (usually evenings) and make at least one school visit annually.

Do you have a head for numbers? Could you use your financial skills to support your local Parkinson’s community? We’re looking for people who like being part of a team and want to make a difference. Would you like a flexible role, where much of it can be done from home at a time that suits you? In this role you’ll be working with staff and volunteers, fostering connections, meeting new people in your local area, all whilst making a difference to those living with Parkinson's.

Why we want you:

This vital role supports local groups across the UK which are run by volunteers, offering friendship and support to people living with Parkinson's, their families and friends. As a pivotal part of the local volunteer team, you will help plan group spending for the benefit of people affected by Parkinson's in your community.

What you will be doing

• Be an ambassador for Team Parkinson’s - engaging with local staff, volunteers, and your local community, to ensure the group has the greatest possible impact on those affected by Parkinson's in your area
• Accurately record financial activity, keeping the group and the Parkinson's UK local networks finance team informed of the group's financial position
• With support from your local staff, stay up to date with Parkinson's UK's financial policies actively sharing them with the group and supporting the group to operate within them
• Provide regular reports to the committee on the financial status of the group including final accounts. 
• Deal with financial administration for the group, from annual reports to legacy spending, and ensuring volunteer expenses are paid accurately in line with our volunteer expenses policy
• Be a signatory on the group's bank accounts

The skills you need

• Previous experience in finance, accountancy or bookkeeping can be valuable, but is not essential
• Confident with numbers and able to take the lead on the group’s finances
• Have confident computer and email skills - be open to using new systems and other digital tools
• Have a commitment to the wider charity’s aims and values
• Be able to contribute to balanced decisions that take into account multiple views, and to do so in a collaborative, open and inclusive way with committee and local staff

TRC was set up in 2010 to provide a free, confidential and non-judgemental specialist support service run by women for women and girls who have experienced any form of rape, sexual abuse or sexual violence at any time in their lives. We are a feminist organisation and we actively challenge the values, beliefs and behaviours that contribute to women’s
oppression. Our mission is to raise awareness about sexual violence through providing training, guidance and information and working in partnership with local service providers and communities to promote the values of TRC.

We are looking for women who hold feminist values and principles and who are passionate about the mission and values of TRC. We are particularly looking for Trustees who have relevant qualifications and/or experience in the following areas:

• Safeguarding, offering support to the chair and safeguarding leads with the management of safeguarding cases and keeping up to date with best practice
• Legal and Governance, including strategic planning and understanding of the wider political Greater Manchester landscape
• Human resources and personnel management, including a knowledge of employment legislation
• Financial management, planning and budgeting
• Public Relations, Marketing and fundraising, including awareness raising and campaigning through social media
• Capacity building and training, especially for volunteers
• Women’s health and mental health, outreach and partnership work with local services
