What would you be doing?
As the Fundraising Officer you will be part of our 4 person fundraising team that is responsible for maintaining and expanding the way in which we fundraising, you will be responsible for:
- Managing our portfolio of events including the London Marathon and Ride London
- Promoting United Response fundraising’s events
- Supporting people within the organisation with local fundraising events
- Helping to ensure that fundraising is done in a compliant manner
- Working with individual fundraisers and donors to provide a high quality donor journey
- Assisting with the administration of our Small Sparks scheme
- Expanding our fundraiser base
What we need from you.
Most importantly we are looking for someone with a passion for charity work and fundraising. As the Fundraising Officer you would need to be comfortable managing a busy workload and have the ability to prioritise to ensure that you can efficiently work towards competing deadlines. This is a fantastic opportunity to be involved in a variety of different fundraising activity so we need someone who is willing to learn and happy to get involved with all things fundraising at United Response. Strong written and verbal communication skills are vital as you will be responsible for dealing with internal stakeholders and external partners. If you can combine these attributes with substantial experience of working within fundraising this could be the role for you! Previous experience of working with fundraising databases, good research skills or knowledge of event management would be beneficial but is not compulsory.

Why we need you
We are seeking a Fundraising Officer to join our small and friendly Fundraising Team and play a key role in securing a vital proportion of the charity’s income that will help to make a meaningful difference in the lives of disadvantaged young people.
The successful candidate will report to the Head of Fundraising and work alongside another Fundraiser to research funding opportunities and develop our prospect pipeline. You will write funding enquiries and applications; write funding reports and case studies; and support the delivery of excellent supporter engagement.
Your primary focus will be on charitable Trusts and Foundations, but there will also be opportunities to get involved in our work to engage philanthropists and corporate businesses and their staff as volunteer fundraisers.

Your responsibilities
Prospect research and pipeline development
You will complete research to find charitable Trusts and Foundations that have the potential to support Future Frontiers for the first time. You will use this knowledge to support the development of our prospect pipeline for the coming years, including making recommendations for our funding ask and amount.
Enquiries and applications
You will write enquiries and applications for funding that are tailored to each recipient and make a convincing case for how their support will make a difference for disadvantaged young people. You will clearly outline the need for our work, the details of our programme and the outcomes for participating pupils, and our impact to-date.
Reports and case studies
You will write reports that are tailored to each recipient and demonstrate how their funding has made a different for disadvantaged young people. You will clearly outline activities, successes, challenges and pupils’ achievements, and demonstrate the impact of their funding for young people, including the gathering of case studies.
Supporter engagement
You will support the planning and delivery of high-quality, tailored communications and engagement opportunities for existing and potential supporters.

The NSPCC’s mission is to end cruelty to children by fighting for every childhood. To carry out its charitable work, the NSPCC relies on the fundraising support of people across the UK for 90% of its annual income. Within fundraising, our aim is to provide maximum resources for the NSPCC. We aim to provide the best possible supporter experience, building long-term relationships to create an experience which is different, better, and more rewarding than that of supporting any other charity.
This role sits within the Volunteer Partnerships team, which consists of four volunteer fundraising boards, made up of influential and successful volunteers from certain sectors (sports, property, media & entertainment, luxury brands, art & finance) who feel passionately about the NSPCC and volunteer their time & expertise. The boards employ a range of fundraising techniques to reach their goals, but their main focus is to use their networks and influence to open up doors and secure income generating opportunities via corporate partnerships, major gifts from individuals, collaboration with brands and fundraising events, all of which generate significant funds for the NSPCC.
Each board typically comprises of 10 to 15 individuals from the specific sectors. Key achievements in the recent years range from helping to secure major corporate partnerships such as Harrods and Morgan Stanley, hosting high value fundraising events through to raising millions via donations from media owners.
The role of the Fundraising Executive is focused on providing support to the Volunteer Partnerships team to help activate new partnerships, and enhance existing partnerships, via effective management of the four volunteer boards. The role will also provide ad-hoc administrative support.
With the support of the Fundraising Managers and Fundraisers, the Fundraising Executive will ensure that maximum income is generated from new fundraising opportunities and projects, raising vital funds to protect vulnerable children and young people.

We are looking for a Senior Full Stack Senior Software Engineer with experience of TypeScript/JavaScript, AWS, PHP to partner with our Fundraising & Trading portfolio to take digital products to the next level. Our Fundraising & Trading products play an invaluable role in securing CRUK funding for our lifesaving research into curing all cancers, for example our bespoke payment platform has raised £39m+ for the charity making up c.60% of our fundraising income.

Our in-house software solutions include a Content Management platform supporting multiple websites, event and activity management web applications, online fundraising platform, payment platform, e-commerce and mobile apps. These are business critical systems under continual agile development, operating at scale for millions of users: cancer patients looking for information, supporters and volunteers helping with fundraising, researchers working towards curing cancer.
Whilst CRUK is a complex organisation, we encourage innovation by setting up small multi-skilled product teams empowered to make decisions and prioritise their work.
What will I be doing?
As a Senior Software Engineer at Cancer Research UK you are responsible for the delivery of specific packages of development for software applications within our Fundraising & Trading product teams, and running these applications in production.
Applying Lean and Agile principles to develop high quality code that has minimal bugs, adheres to CRUK standards and is highly supportable
Working either independently or in collaboration with Solution Architects to design new solutions in line with the Software Engineering strategy.
Working autonomously to deliver backlog items for an existing product.
Work in collaboration with Product Managers, Service Designers, UX Designers, Business Analysts etc to identify user needs, discuss capabilities and iteratively design solutions
Supporting the development of more junior software engineers through mentoring
What we're looking for
Essential
Experienced Software Engineer with experience of TypeScript/JavaScript, AWS, PHP
Ability to write clean, readable and properly tested code based on tried and tested design patterns.
Ability and willingness to learn new languages, frameworks and tools.
Experience building modern user interfaces and single page applications using the React/NextJS ecosystem. Experience developing APIs and other back-end components using Node.js and PHP
Experience of acting as a technical lead in a team, starting development of new features from scratch, defining the overall solution and reviewing more junior engineers' work
Desirable
Some experience of cloud-native architecture and AWS services, various SQL and noSQL databases, as well as queues such as SQS

As a Community Fundraiser you will support our mission, by delivering on our strategic plans, objectives and mission, through generating and growing our income through community fundraising activities.
Raising awareness and engaging with people with the work Brain Tumour Research does is another key purpose of this role. This is currently achieved through the recruitment and then supporting the fundraising of individuals, challenge event participants, our Fundraising Groups and Charity of the Year partnerships.
As well as growing our supporter base, you will sustain our supporter base and provide excellent stewardship at all teams.
Brain Tumour Research holds annual challenges and events to generate income, however as well as using these opportunities to generate income for the charity, Community Fundraiser’s will be expected to seek out, and support new opportunities.
Main duties:
- Ensure supporters, volunteers and fundraising groups have access to relevant fundraising advice, guidance and accurate signposting, whilst promoting best practice in fundraising.
- Manage, and continuously develop and improve your region through excellent stewarding of existing supporters, regional social media and recruitment of new supporters.
- Build and grow relationships to support development of new Fundraising Groups.
- Keep our CRM database fully up to date with information about our supporters and their fundraising activities.
- Connect with local neuro hospitals within your area in order to organise regular information stands taking place on brain tumour clinic days, and to book in visits from the Community Development Manager as appropriate.
Requisite Skills and Experience:
- Experience in community fundraising, donor management and stewardship.
- A good communicator, with the ability to converse sensitively and empathetically with members of the public, who may be going through current or recent traumatic experiences.
- Ability to work proactively and independently.
- Able to identify and maximise opportunities.
- Flexible, embraces change and development, and is able to work occasional evenings and weekends when necessary.
- Experience of working with a database / CRM.
- Experience of working with MS Office, especially confident in Word and Excel.
- Outstanding organisation skills.
- Access to a car and full driving would be ideal but not essential.
