Job description

Do you have a track record in trust / grant fundraising and a passion for raising funds to support older people struggling with loneliness, isolation and other challenges? 

Our Fundraising Manager has gone on maternity leave so we are looking for someone who is confident to hit the ground running and manage our organisation’s fundraising programme. The majority of our fundraising income currently comes from trusts, foundations and other grants so experience, proven success and a flair for writing and relationship building are essential.

If, in addition to trusts expertise, you also have wider fundraising experience – particularly in community fundraising, this would be very valuable.  We are realistic about the limitations currently imposed by the pandemic but we are definitely aspiring to grow other areas of our fundraising over time. 

Older people in our community need our help and support more than ever at the moment so we need funding more than ever.  If this challenge excites you then please get in touch.

Main purpose of the Job

To be responsible for owning and implementing Age UK B&NES’s fundraising strategy in order to increase income and help make Age UK B&NES’s services more sustainable. Although some of the Charity’s services are funded through statutory contracts, the future of this income is uncertain.  This post is therefore crucial in order to ensure that we can continue to ‘be there’ for older people in our local community.

The post-holder will oversee all areas of fundraising with a constant focus on return on investment and with a primary focus on trust and grants fundraising.

Key Fundraising tasks / responsibilities

  • To raise funds from charitable trusts, foundations and other grant-making bodies
    • To undertake research into charitable trusts and other funding bodies
    • To cultivate existing relationships including writing of progress / impact reports and liaising with other staff about outcomes / evaluation of services
    • To implement a programme of applications to trusts and foundations in order to achieve the agreed budget
  • To explore and pursue other fundraising opportunities locally to increase income and also to increase awareness of the organisation’s need for funding.  This will include:-
    • Encouraging individual giving including from local major donors
    • Securing support from the local community and from local companies
    • Promoting legacies through newsletters and other avenues
    • Encouraging In Memoriam donations
  • To research and pursue any relevant opportunities for funding from statutory sources and from Age UK (national)

Communications and marketing work

  • Promote the key values, aims and objectives of Age UK B&NES
  • Promote a culture of cross organisational working by communicating fundraising priorities to the wider organisation
  • Be aware of the priorities and pressures at all levels in the organisation and contribute to shared problem solving strategies
  • Contribute to marketing and publicity relating to promoting the services of the organisation (there is a Communications Manager in post)


  • To ensure that the database is used to record details of all supporters
  • To maintain efficient administrative systems to ensure that supporters are thanked and are kept up to date on the impact of their support

Budgetary management

  • To take responsibility for developing the fundraising budget each year, for reviewing it continuously and for updating the CEO and Trustees.
