Office of Philanthropic Partnerships and Alumni (OPPA) works with a community of global alumni and donors to deepen their ties with York and each other, and encourage them to support the University through York Giving. This role is part of the Individual Philanthropy Team, which manages major individual philanthropy and the legacy giving programme, working closely with the other OPPA teams:
Corporate and Foundation Philanthropy: developing long term, strategic partnerships with philanthropic corporate and foundation supporters.
Fundraising Programmes: managing mass fundraising appeals, crowdfunding campaigns, community fundraising and student projects.
Operations and Experience: providing business intelligence, information and insight, governance and stewardship of supporter and alumni relationships, and managing all mass communications with alumni and supporters.
York for Life: developing alumni communities, volunteering and alumni engagement programmes in support of the University’s strategic aims.
OPPA is part of the University’s Directorate of External Relations, and works closely with other sections of the directorate, which are Marketing, Recruitment, Outreach and Admissions, Communications, Public Engagement and Events, and International Student Recruitment, Partnerships and Mobility.
About the Role
The role of Philanthropy Manager is to inspire and encourage philanthropic income from major individual donors to the University of York. You will work to build engagement and involvement of potential major donors and colleagues across the University to develop and deliver a pipeline of significant philanthropic gifts to York Giving’s priority projects.
You will manage a portfolio of major donor prospects and have responsibility and accountability for fund management and other priority projects for philanthropic funding, including liaising with academic theme coordinators.
This is a demanding and rewarding role that requires resilience and a long term view. The post holder will work to individual financial cash and pledge targets and KPIs based on meetings, moves, proposals and asks made.
Skills, Experience & Qualification needed
- Proven experience in a relationship management role, with both internal and external stakeholders. Ease at working with people and developing personable relationships with a wide range of people.
- Experience of fundraising or role generating new business.
- Knowledge and understanding of the principles related to donor cultivation, asking and stewardship
- Experience of organising events
- Experience of working in a high education or not for profit fundraising environment.
- Knowledge of data protection laws as they related to donor information
- Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge / NXT database or similar relationship management database

This is an opportunity to join the Individual Giving team, which raises money to support the National Theatre from individuals through tiered levels of membership (£84 - £12,000), appeals, one-off donations and legacies.
The Patrons Manager will be responsible for a portfolio of donors and prospects - identifying, soliciting and stewarding annual gifts from £1,000 and above. They will retain and increase support at these levels through a year-round programme of engagement and excellent relationship management.

About the Role
Young Roots is looking for an experienced and creative Trusts & Foundations Fundraising Lead to play a key role in securing income that transforms the lives of young refugees and asylum seekers. This is a rewarding part-time role (28 hours per week) designed to support work-life balance while leading Trusts and Foundations income generation with structured support from the Head of Fundraising and Development.
You'll manage a defined portfolio of Trust and Foundation partners, working alongside colleagues overseeing other income streams. You'll develop compelling funding proposals, and proactively identify new opportunities aligned with our strategy. Working closely with colleagues across the organisation, you’ll place young people’s voices and experiences at the heart of every bid, helping to fund services that support belonging, wellbeing and futures.

Role outline and purpose
The Development Manager – Trusts & Foundations is responsible for delivering new relationships with a wide spectrum of Trusts and Foundations to grow our portfolio of high value funding partners. We are excited to be seeking a talented and motivated individual to join Southampton Hospitals Charity as our legacy and in-memory manager to help shape our legacy development programme and in-memory strategy.
The role will involve leading on the operational delivery of both legacy and in-memory marketing and legacy case management. The postholder will implement donor-centric approaches to legacy and in-memory campaigns and events, case management, and supporter stewardship.
We are looking for an individual who is as passionate about fundraising as the work we do as a Charity to join our team. This role will be key, as we launch our ambitious new strategy to grow our income, reach and impact.
Main responsibilities
Legacies
- Develop and implement a comprehensive legacy strategy, identifying new opportunities, products, and campaigns to increase engagement, consideration, and pledger numbers.
- Work across the Charity to ensure legacies are integrated across relevant channels to reach key audiences.
- Build a portfolio of case studies to showcase how legacy giving has had a transformative impact across our hospitals.
- Build and nurture relationships with legacy pledgers and prospects, organising legacy information and engagement events to position the Charity prominently in legator consideration.
- Responsible for legacy case management and be the main contact for our legacy consultancy partner, ensuring all processes are compliant, efficient, and deliver for the Charity and for its supporters.
- Communicate with empathy and professionalism with executors, solicitors, and beneficiaries’ families, including handling enquiries and confirming receipt of legacy notifications.
- Work with the director of operations & resources on disputes and contested legacies, to ensure these are handled appropriately and sensitively.
- Work with the director of finance to ensure all information is recorded appropriately to ensure correct accounting and accrual of legacy income.
- Support the director of finance on legacy matters relating to the Charity’s annual external audit.
In-Memory
- Support with the development and management of stewardship programmes for in-memory donors, ensuring journeys are sensitive, supportive, and effective.
- Have responsibility for the efficient use of all in-memory payment platforms, ensuring that they are utilised correctly, report accurately, and are employed as part of a strong stewardship programme.
- Work closely with the hospital engagement team for the promotion of in-memory giving opportunities
- Working with the marketing & campaigns manager, develop and implement relevant campaigns, including within our hospitals, to increase awareness of in-memory giving
- Support the events & community fundraising officer with events organised by families and friends in memory of loved ones, ensuring appropriate stewardship processes are put into place.
- Look for new opportunities for developing in-memory products, developing cases for support and implementation plans to ensure the Charity’s in-memory programme is at the forefront of new practice.
- Work closely with the grants manager to ensure restricted and tribute funds are able to have an impact in the areas donors wish to see.
- Develop and cultivate strong relationships with supporters by offering suitable opportunities to remember someone special.
- Working with the marketing and communications team, source and develop case stories for use across the in-memory programme and charity.
Knowledge and experience
- Proven experience in legacy administration within the charity sector
- Certificate in Charity Legacy Administration (ILM) is desirable
- Proven experience in developing and delivering legacy, in-memory, and/or individual giving strategies and campaigns across multiple channels.

The charity is rapidly scaling up, recently doubling its annual support to £6 million. Degrees has partnered with leading climate change funders and research partners including the Quadrature Climate Foundation, Open Philanthropy, Crankstart, Navigation Fund, Outlier Projects, LAD Climate Fund and UK Advanced Research and Invention Agency (ARIA). Transparency of funding is essential to our work. We do not accept support from anonymous donors or funding from the fossil fuel industry. Fundraising for the organisation has been led by the Founder and CEO, Chief Operating Officer (COO), Chief of Staff, and the Chair of the Trustees with the support of an experienced Senior Philanthropy Advisor.
We now seek a full-time team member to build on this base. Reporting to the COO, and working closely with senior staff and the Chair, the Development Manager will support high‑performing fundraising that secures multi‑year, diversified funding. He / she will also introduce robust processes for pipeline management and donor stewardship and manage the complete donor lifecycle (from identification to cultivation to solicitation and stewardship) of a portfolio of top prospects. The post holder will receive initial onboarding support from the Senior Philanthropy Advisor. As fundraising grows, the team may expand in the future.
Initial priorities include expansion beyond the current donor pool, with a strong push to identify and engage new funders, and putting in place the systems (CRM, reporting cadence, key performance indicators) to support growth at scale.
As this is a new role, responsibilities are expected to evolve but some key items will include:
Strategy & planning
- Work with the CEO, Chief of Staff, COO, Senior Philanthropy Advisor, programme staff and the Chair of the Trustees to help develop and implement a multi-year fundraising strategy aligned with organisational objectives;
Pipeline development & new opportunities

MAIN DUTIES
Donor Cultivation and Relationship Management
- Build and nurture strong, long-term relationships with new and existing supporters through personalised engagement strategies informed by the Head of Development
- Represent the School at meetings, events, presentations and functions to cultivate connections with prospective donors
