Job description

The Organisation

Plan International is an independent development and humanitarian organisation that advances children’s rights and equality for girls.

We believe in the power and potential of every child. But this is often suppressed by poverty, violence, exclusion and discrimination. And it’s girls who are most affected.

Working together with children, young people, our supporters and partners, we strive for a just world, tackling the root causes of the challenges facing girls and all vulnerable children.

We support children’s rights from birth until they reach adulthood. And we enable children to prepare for – and respond to – crises and adversity. We drive changes in practice and policy at local, national and global levels using our reach, experience and knowledge.

We have been building powerful partnerships for children for over 80 years, and are now active in more than 70 countries.

The Opportunity

As we work to ensure our governance and global strategy development is more inclusive, our Members’ Assembly have decided to bring all parts of Plan International together to identify and galvanise the next steps of our strategy through a global virtual conversation that culminates at a Global Congress event to take place in June 2021.

This conversation and Global Congress will involve a broad coalition of our stakeholders, including the girls that we work for, youth activists, staff, senior leaders and our governors.

Working closely with the Executive Director of Strategy Insights and New Ventures, you will ensure delivery of a series of virtual regional conversations essential for engagement in the global strategy process as well as an impactful global event.

Working with the Executive Director Strategic Insights and New Ventures, Global Hub colleagues and throughout Plan International, you will;

  • Develop the concept and manage the overall coordination of the Global Congress project.
  • Develop a strategic plan and approach for the Global Congress project and oversee its operational delivery.
  • Work with colleagues across Plan International, external partners, supporters and others, in order to maximize contributions to the Global Congress project.
  • Manage the planning, set-up and operational aspects of the Global Congress project.
  • Deliver an engaging and innovative series of virtual Congresses across our regions in the lead up to the event.
  • Work in collaboration with the Plan International host country on all operational delivery aspects of the Global Congress event.
  • Recruit and lead a team to deliver content, communications and logistics for the Global Congress project and event.

The Individual

Proven experience managing projects and arranging large events or conferences, highly developed skills with virtual engagement and communication tools, the ability to involve and engage positively a wide range of stakeholders and to manage high performing and geographically dispersed teams.

Positive, proactive and adaptable, you will have worked in fast paced, changing environments.

Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills will be imperative as is the ability to influence and negotiate as necessary.
