You will support the Board of Trustees by providing timely and accurate information to ensure effective governance and decision making.

Plumstead Community Law Centre is a free specialist legal advice charity located in central Woolwich in South East London. We provide specialist legal advice and advocacy in the areas of immigration, welfare benefits and employment People can access our services via telephone or email, and through the Advice Hub outreach services we attend in local community centres. In 2024 over 1,400 local people accessed our advice and representation services, resulting in a range of financial and non-financial benefits.

JOB PURPOSE

The Senior Advisor, PPLE is a key role responsible for successfully delivering Lumos’ strategy on safe and meaningful engagement of children, young people, families and caregivers. Considering the cross-cutting nature of participation, the post-holder will work across teams to ensure PPLE is mainstreamed throughout the organisation, strengthening Lumos’ internal capacity and approaches to meaningful participation. They will ensure that Lumos programmes demonstrate innovative and transferrable approaches to participation, and that people with lived experience are meaningfully involved in national, regional and global advocacy and campaigning, as well as within Lumos’ internal governance.  

The Senior Advisor will oversee implementation of Lumos’ newly-developed PPLE Strategy – working in partnership with people with lived experience, PPLE Focal Points in Lumos’s four country offices, and other key colleagues. They will supervise and guide the work of PPLE across country teams and Lumos’s central function to develop and deliver high-quality and effective projects that achieve the objectives of the PPLE strategy.  

The post holder will also work with Global Advocacy, Communications and Fundraising colleagues and country teams to ensure that people with lived experience are well represented in national, regional and global campaigns and initiatives that inform child rights and care reform policy and programming. They will identify and cultivate relationships with relevant stakeholders in the care and related sectors, including with existing national, regional and global networks of care-experienced children and young people, to strengthen partnerships and collaboration around PPLE. The post holder will work hand-in-hand with safeguarding colleagues, acting as the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) for the PPLE workstream, to ensure Lumos has, and is implementing, appropriate systems to facilitate safe and ethical PPLE that is compliant with data protection protocols. The Senior PPLE Advisor will contribute to fundraising, participating in proposal development, reporting to donors and other related activities. 

KEY OBJECTIVES

• Provide technical leadership on PPLE and oversee the implementation of Lumos’ new PPLE Strategy – working in partnership with people with lived experience, PPLE Focal Points, key staff including in Lumos country offices and external partners including participatory networks and associations. 
• Strengthen Lumos’ internal capacity and approaches to meaningful participation of children, youth, parents and caregivers 
• Ensure that participation of children, young people, parents and caregivers is embedded as a cross-cutting priority throughout the organisation’s projects and programmes 
• Develop an annual strategic plan for PPLE for 2026 and ensure PPLE is included and aligned across the plans, strategies, and projects of other Programmes teams 
• Provide supervision, coordination and capacity-building to the PPLE team, which comprises PPLE Focal Points across Lumos’ four country offices, including setting and implementing objectives, deliverables and KPIs that will motivate the team and achieve ambitious results, and monitor and track progress 
• Ensure coordination and engagement between PPLE Focal Points and organisational leadership 
• Lead on the development of country programme PPLE strategies in line with Lumos’ 2024-7 strategy, alongside PPLE Focal Points and programmes teams.
• Manage the PPLE budget to ensure objectives are met, high quality deliverables are achieved, and budgets are utilised effectively; potential of managing future PPLE grants and programmes depending on priorities 
• Collaborate with the fundraising and Programme teams to develop all project proposals with the Participation of People with Lived Experience embedded throughout, including direct engagement of People with Lived Experience in drafting proposals when appropriate  
• Develop high-quality reports, quarterly, annual, or other for both internal and external audiences, including donors, in collaboration with relevant teams and support positive relationships with stakeholders 
• Represent PPLE at a senior level internally and externally, including in meetings, working groups and committees as needed
• Build and nurture relationships with relevant stakeholders in the care reform and other connected sectors, to secure opportunities for the participation and meaningful involvement of people with lived experience 
• Oversee training and capacity building of people with lived experience so they can participate in care reform implementation initiatives and in decisions that affect their lives 
• Work with advocacy and communications colleagues to ensure that people with lived experience are well represented in regional and global campaigns, events and initiatives that inform child rights and care reform policy and programming. Advocate for and facilitate their inclusion in a meaningful, genuine and non-tokenistic manner 
• Co-ordinate the planning and delivery of external and internal participation events and activities, at national, regional or international level, for example Lumos’ participatory groups, working closely with Advocacy, Communications and other relevant teams.  
• Promote opportunities for young people to be more actively and meaningfully involved in all areas of Lumos’ work, including organisational governance, in line with Lumos’ strategy 2024-27 and the PPLE Strategy. Lead on the coordination of a Lumos Global Youth Advisory Board in close collaboration with the PPLE Focal Points and other relevant teams.
• Lead the development of training and capacity building to teams across Lumos, including ELT, to promote and enable a mainstreamed approach to PPLE 
• Act as Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) for the participation function, working closely with safeguarding colleagues and PPLE Focal Points, to ensure Lumos has, and is implementing, appropriate systems to facilitate safe and ethical PPLE that is compliant with relevant organisational policies, including the Safeguarding Policy and Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse Policy, and with relevant data protection protocols

Role Overview: Knowledge in grant-funding, capacity building, organisational support

We are seeking a proactive and collaborative Charity Support Officer to help deliver AWN’s mission. You will be the first point of contact for grassroots charities, supporting them to strengthen their organisations and improve their chances of securing grant funding by offering practical guidance, signposting, and building trusted relationships that help them grow in confidence and resilience. The role includes helping organisations strengthen governance and compliance, sharing information on grant-funding opportunities, and supporting them to identify challenges and develop practical solutions.
 
The non-profits you will support work across a wide range of areas for example: women, health and wellbeing, youth, homelessness and poverty, family services, sports, faith groups, crime and gangs, prisoners and ex-offenders, refugees and asylum seekers, drug addiction, older people and rehabilitation, and many more. 
 
Bringing a strong awareness of the barriers facing small charities particularly Muslim-led groups, will be key to helping them build long-term sustainability and impact. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Act as the first point of contact for charities and community groups, managing a varied caseload and balancing priorities. 

• Carry out needs assessments to understand organisations strengths, challenges, and funding needs, and develop clear action plans. 

• Provide tailored support, including health checks on governance, compliance, finances, and funding readiness, offering recommendations and signposting to specialist services (e.g., Cranfield Trust, CVS, Charity Excellence etc). 

• Advise on funding opportunities, strategy, and application readiness, with referrals to bid-writing support where needed. 

• Deliver workshops, webinars, events, and one-to-one sessions to build skills, knowledge, and confidence of UK grassroots organisations. 

• Work collaboratively with organisations and AWN colleagues (including via the triage and referral system) to identify challenges and develop practical, sustainable solutions. 

• Build and maintain strong relationships with charities, funders, and sector partners across the voluntary, public, and charity sectors. 

• Represent AWN at external events, conferences, and meetings, helping to organise and deliver events linked to your work. 

• Keep accurate records on the CRM, gather feedback, write case studies, and contribute to monitoring, evaluation, and service development. 

• Support AWN’s communications by contributing updates for the website and social media.

Patience, curiosity, and cultural awareness will help you understand the diverse realities of grassroots charities and the communities they serve. 
 
Alongside these personal qualities, you’ll bring a good understanding of the charity sector and the challenges facing small non-profits across the UK, for UK Muslim-led organisations. You’ll have exceptional knowledge of governance, compliance, and funding pathways, and the confidence to guide organisations towards growth, resilience, and long-term impact. 

Essential Criteria 

• 3+ years’ experience within the UK charity sector (domestic, not solely international). 

• Strong understanding of charity governance, compliance, and the UK funding and grant-making landscape. 

• Insight into the needs and challenges of small and grassroots non-profits, with awareness of the systemic barriers affecting Muslim-led organisations. 

• Experience supporting or advising charities, community groups, or local networks to build capacity and resilience. 

• Ability to work collaboratively with organisations, offering constructive and practical guidance. 

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with confidence in public speaking and engaging a wide range of stakeholders. 

• Strong organisational and administrative skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities. 

• Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative, and adapt in a fast-paced environment.  

• Comfortable working autonomously and as part of a small team, with minimal supervision. 

• Confident using technology to deliver support and manage work effectively, including CRM systems, Microsoft Teams, and other digital tools. 

• Experience in one or more of the following areas: 
  - Community engagement and outreach 
  - Event or project coordination (online and in-person) 
  - Delivering presentations, workshops, or training sessions 
  - Monitoring, evaluation, and learning activities

The succcesful candidate will be based in Chatham, Kent but work to a hybrid model.

About the role: 

The Global Coordinator leads the coalition’s strategic direction, fundraising, and campaign delivery—steering EWP towards a stronger southern-led model, securing funds to expand regranting and advocacy capacity, and ensuring impactful campaigns.

1. Strategic Leadership

• Define and implement EWP’s vision, governance, and strategic priorities.
• Lead strategic and annual planning with regional leads.
• Ensure alignment with southern-led values, decolonisation, and localisation principles.
• Monitor, evaluate, and adjust strategy to maximise impact.
• Represent EWP in external forums and build partnerships.

2. Fundraising

• Identify and secure new funding opportunities.

3. Campaigns & Delivery

• Oversee the Claim Your Water Rights campaign and other initiatives.

4. Governance & Finance

• Ensure effective governance, managing Steering Committee meetings and membership engagement.

Requirements

To be successful, you’ll need:  

• 10+ years’ experience in the global south, preferably in human rights/water justice.
• Experience leading or working with global coalitions.  
• Experience working in or with grassroots organizations
• Proven fundraising and budget management success.
• Experience in international networks, particularly in Africa, Latin America, or Asia.
• Track record of impactful campaigns achieving policy change.
• Strong political judgement from a southern perspective.
• Excellent interpersonal, team management, and communication skills.
• Fluent in English; conversational French or Spanish.

Desirable:

• Born and raised in the global south.
• Trilingual (English, French, Spanish).
• Media and spokesperson experience
