Job Title: Grant-making Officer

Salary: £30,000–34,000

Hours: Full-time (40 hours/week) or Part-time (min 24 hours/week) 

Location: Central London / Hybrid (1-2 days in office per week)

Annual Leave: 25 days paid annual leave, increasing by 1 day per year of service (up to 28 days), plus an additional day for your birthday or key LGBTQI event and time off over the Christmas week.

About Us

GiveOut is an award-winning international LGBTQI community foundation bringing together our community and allies to support LGBTQI activism worldwide.

Across the world, courageous activists are working tirelessly to protect LGBTQI communities and advance equality. But they lack resources and funding is fragile, especially in the Global South. LGBTQI groups receive a tiny fraction of international development aid.

GiveOut exists to bridge this gap. We provide a platform for individuals, businesses and others to give tax efficiently in one place, ensuring sustained funding for LGBTQI human rights activism worldwide. By pooling donations, we provide grants to pioneering organisations, empowering them to defend our communities, tackle inequality and campaign for lasting change.

Our grant-making process follows a rigorous framework of consultation, due diligence, and vetting. It is overseen by our Grant-Making Advisory Panel, composed of LGBTQI activists from the Global South, and governed by our Board of Trustees.

In just seven years, we have provided over £5 million in new funding, supporting more than 60 LGBTQI organisations globally. Our grant partners report back on their achievements, and we share their impact with our supporters, demonstrating the tangible difference their generosity makes.

About the Role

As Grant-Making Officer, you will support the delivery of GiveOut's grant-making programme, helping ensure that funding reaches LGBTQI activist organisations efficiently, responsibly and in line with GiveOut's values and grant-making policies.

Reporting to the Grant-Making Manager, you will coordinate key aspects of the grant-making cycle, support grant partners throughout the grant lifecycle, and help maintain the systems, processes and relationships that underpin GiveOut's grant-making programme.

Bringing a passion for international LGBTQI human rights, you will build meaningful relationships with LGBTQI activists and organisations across the globe while developing your expertise in international grant-making.

Key Responsibilities

Grant-Making Programme Delivery

• Support the delivery of GiveOut's annual grant-making programme and grant portfolio.

• Coordinate the annual grant-making cycle, ensuring documentation, timelines and communications are delivered on time.

• Prepare due diligence assessments, grant agreements and other grant documentation for review by the Grant-Making Manager.

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date grants management records. 

Grant Partner Relationships

• Build and maintain positive, responsive relationships with grant partners.

• Coordinate grant partner visits and engagement activities, including developing itineraries, supporting travel arrangements and coordinating logistics with colleagues and grant partners.

• Support the Grant-Making Manager in coordinating in-kind consultancy and pro bono support opportunities between grant partners and GiveOut's corporate and legal partners. 

Monitoring, Reporting, Evaluation & Learning

• Coordinate the collection of narrative and financial reports from grant partners.

• Maintain accurate monitoring and reporting records across the grant portfolio.

• Support the Grant-Making Manager and Senior Communications Officer to capture grant partner updates, impact, learning and evidence for organisational learning, external communications, and donor reporting.

Sector Expertise & Representation

• Maintain an up-to-date understanding of developments in global LGBTQI movements and international human rights.

• Share relevant sector insights with colleagues to inform GiveOut's work.

• Represent GiveOut at meetings and events where appropriate.

Essential Skills and Experience

• Experience in grant-making, grant administration, programme coordination, or a related field (e.g. international development, social impact, research or NGO administration).

• Demonstrated commitment to or connection with the LGBTQI community.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships across cultures.

• Excellent organisational and project management skills, with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks.

Desirable Skills and Experience

• Awareness of global LGBTQI movements and international human rights.

• Understanding of grant-making theory, processes, and best practices.

• Experience with grants management databases and tools.

• Experience collaborating with communications teams to develop impact stories, case studies, articles, or digital content. 

• Experience collecting or coordinating monitoring and reporting information for grant-funded programmes.

• Working proficiency in a second language (French, Spanish, Arabic, Swahili, ect.) 

• Undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant field.

• Familiarity with Google Workspace tools (e.g., Docs, Sheets, Drive).

The Grants Compliance Officer plays an important role in supporting the effective financial management and oversight of AmplifyChange's grant portfolio. Working as part of the Grants Compliance Team, you'll help ensure grant funding reaches our Grantee Partners, is used for its intended purpose and is managed in line with our compliance and donor requirements.

Reporting to the Grants Compliance Manager, you'll lead the financial management of your own portfolio of grants, supporting due diligence assessments, reviewing financial reports and budgets, monitoring compliance, and helping to strengthen the financial management capacity of Grantee Partners. You'll work closely with colleagues across the Grants Support Team, Finance, Operations and Learning, Monitoring and Evaluation, providing practical advice and support throughout the grant lifecycle.

AmplifyChange is a bilingual fund, and this role has a particular focus on supporting French-speaking Grantee Partners across Africa, South Asia and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. Fluency in spoken and written French is therefore essential.

This is a varied and rewarding role that combines financial analysis, relationship management and organisational strengthening. You'll build trusted relationships with Grantee Partners while helping to safeguard grant funding and support the delivery of high-quality projects.

The role includes some international travel to visit Grantee Partners and support compliance activities will be required.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Grant Compliance and Financial Management

You'll support effective financial management and compliance across your grant portfolio by:

• Managing a portfolio of approximately 100–120 grants.
• Reviewing and approving project budgets, providing detailed feedback and guidance to Grantee Partners.
• Reviewing and approving financial reports, providing advice on budget management, exchange rates and financial compliance.
• Supporting Grantee Partners with budget revisions where required.
• Reviewing documentation relating to due diligence recommendations, supporting ongoing compliance and organisational strengthening.

Due Diligence and Risk Management

You'll help safeguard AmplifyChange's funding by:

• Supporting funding round processes, including financial eligibility checks, initial financial assessments, due diligence and operational support.
• Carrying out light-touch and full due diligence assessments of prospective and existing Grantee Partners operating in diverse and complex contexts.
• Analysing due diligence findings and making recommendations to strengthen organisational systems and financial controls.
• Carrying out expenditure verification and identifying potential instances of fraud or financial irregularity.
• Reviewing organisational policies, audited financial statements and project audit reports to assess compliance and financial risk.

Partner Support and Capacity Strengthening

You'll build trusted relationships with Grantee Partners and strengthen their financial management capacity by:

• Acting as the first point of contact for financial management and compliance queries within your grant portfolio.
• Providing technical advice and guidance to support effective financial management and compliance.
• Designing and delivering webinars and organisational strengthening sessions on financial management, reporting, due diligence and grant compliance.
• Conducting compliance monitoring visits and delivering compliance sessions during in-country partner convenings.
• Supporting our online Grantee Partner community through the Circle platform.

Collaboration and Continuous Improvement

You'll work collaboratively across AmplifyChange to support effective grant management and continuously improve our processes by:

• Working closely with the Grants Support Team, Finance, Operations and Learning, Monitoring and Evaluation teams throughout the grant lifecycle.
• Supporting the Grants Compliance Manager with donor reporting, monitoring and evaluation, and other organisational priorities.
• Contributing to the ongoing development and improvement of grant management systems, processes and ways of working.
• Sharing learning and feedback to strengthen compliance practices and improve the experience of Grantee Partners.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

We're looking for someone who is organised, collaborative and committed to supporting effective grant management. You'll have excellent attention to detail, strong financial and analytical skills, and the confidence to build positive working relationships with Grantee Partners and colleagues across AmplifyChange. You'll be comfortable managing your own workload, working across multiple priorities and contributing to a purpose-driven organisation.

Essential

• Sensitivity to, and support for, the values and general aims of AmplifyChange.
• Fluency in spoken and written French.
• Experience in a finance, grants, audit or risk management role, including experience of due diligence, financial reporting or compliance.
• Educated to A-level or equivalent.
• Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office and advanced Excel
• An interest in working within the international development and sexual and reproductive health and rights sector.
• Experience of working in a collaborative team environment and building effective relationships across diverse teams.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with people from a wide range of cultural backgrounds.
• Good financial awareness, analytical skills and excellent attention to detail.
• Ability to manage a varied workload, prioritise effectively and meet deadlines.
• Ability to use initiative and apply a proactive, solution-focused approach to work.
• Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
• Willingness and ability to undertake international travel.

Desirable

• Experience of working in a charity, grant-making or not-for-profit organisation.
• Experience of grants management systems, with Fluxx experience advantageous.
• Experience of working in sexual and reproductive health and rights and/or international development.
• Experience of working with organisations across Africa, South Asia and/or the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
• Educated to degree level or equivalent.
• Fluency in Arabic, Hindi, Urdu, Portuguese or another language relevant to the fund.

WORKING ARRANGEMENTS

Reports to the Grants Compliance Manager.

This is a full-time role (37.5 hours per week).

Some international travel to visit Grantee Partners and support compliance activities will be required.

AmplifyChange operates a hybrid working model, with at least one day per week based in our Bath office. Requests for flexible working arrangements will be considered.

About the Role
We are looking for a proactive and organised Grants Officer to support the delivery of our grant-making programme and help empower young people facing deep-rooted inequality to create lasting change. Working across the full grants cycle, you will coordinate key administrative processes, maintain accurate records, analyse and report on grants data, and support the planning and delivery of events.

The successful candidate will be dependable, detail-oriented, and committed to ensuring efficient systems and high-quality support for applicants, grant recipients, and colleagues.

As a Grants Officer, you will:

• Coordinate the administration of grants and events across the grants programme.
• Maintain and improve grant management systems and processes.
• Provide timely support and guidance to applicants and respond to enquiries.
• Ensure accurate grant records and documentation for compliance, audit, and impact reporting.
• Collect, monitor, analyse, and report on grant-making data.
• Support consistent use of Salesforce across the team.
• Assist with event logistics, travel bookings, invoice processing, and general team administration.
