About Us

The Upper Room (TUR) works with a wide range of financially and socially disadvantaged groups including homeless people, people with long-term mental health conditions, asylum-seekers, refugees and ex-offenders – helping them to improve their lives and become productive members of society. Central to our offering is our UR4Meals service, providing free, home-cooked food to people who cannot afford to provide for themselves. We are also very proud of our UR4Driving programme, which supports people recently out of prison with free driving lessons in exchange for community volunteering. Gaining a driving licence greatly enhances their future employability prospects and helps break the cycle of re-offending. Additionally, our UR4Jobs project focusses on both client wellbeing and breaking down the many barriers to employment faced by disadvantaged people every day.

The role

Is an exciting new edition to the TUR team, created to capitalise on the fact that the number of businesses in our catchment area is 45000+, but we’re not trying to talk to all of them, just target a few – ideally by gaining referrals and recommendations. So the job is to proactively find those local businesses happy to talk to us, understand what they might be looking for by partnering with a charity, share our brilliant story along with the business case (which is strong) for them to get involved with us in some way. We have made an excellent start, we already have a small number of great corporate partners, and this job is about taking it all on to the next level. As you would expect the role is about creating contacts, networking, maximising the face-to-face time with prospective partners and where possible gaining referrals. And, ultimately this is all because, the bigger our portfolio of corporate partners all feeling great about their involvement with us, the more able we are to raise the funds we need to keep up with an ever-increasing demand for our services.

About You

You live within - or know well, West/Central London, you probably need a job with some working flexibility and want to have genuine belief in the product or service you’re talking about. You have a CV that demonstrates solid experience in a comparable role in a ‘business-to-business’ environment, a role - the success of which, is dependent on the levels of energy and proactivity you provide. This could be in another charity, CIC or other Non-Profit organisation. However, if you have a solid B2B background and want to explore a change of direction you are also very welcome to apply. You are comfortable and confident with working autonomously, you can articulate and ‘bring to life’ your story through your presentation skills. You also need great listening skills so you can build a picture of what each new corporate partner is looking to achieve by signing up to our cause. You have used Microsoft suite products before – including PowerPoint.

Summary of Role:

Join Muslim Aid as the Director of Operations to steer our strategic alignment and operational excellence across global initiatives. Reporting directly to the CEO and collaborating with senior directors, you will play a crucial role in overseeing our International Programmes, Income Generation and Marketing departments. About You:

1. Proven experience in a leadership role within the non-profit sector, preferably in an international context.
2. Experience in overseeing programmatic and income generation activities, demonstrating the ability to integrate these functions effectively.
3. Proven experience in successfully raising funds from diverse income streams such as grants, donations, sponsorships, events, and partnerships.
4. Experience in managing diverse teams and complex projects across multiple countries and contexts.
5. Proven experience in change management and driving organisational development initiatives.
6. Proven financial management skills, including budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.

This is a full-time role, 35 hours per week, which you can choose to work over five days or a 9-day fortnight.

Sibling Arts C.I.C. co-creates multi-arts projects with queer, trans, sex worker & migrant communities. Looking for a Finance & Administration Officer (FAO to lead on our financial and administrative needs, and grow with us as we do more ambitious projects with social impact at their core.

Our current projects:

• Delivering trans/non-binary hxstory via storytelling to young people KS3 & teacher training

• Organising an Arts Action Fair connecting grassroots artists, frontline campaigns, NGOs, demonstrating how community ownership makes better art

• Building on the success of our beloved musical theatre production Sex Worker's Opera to create a full-length feature film, branching into new artistic territory with new communities.

We are looking for a skilled, dynamic and conscientious individual to lead on our financial and administrative needs, and work with us to grow our organisation.

You will be one of four core staff roles in the organisation. After the first year there may be space for role to develop and expand.

You will lead on financial management, working closely with Directors to develop and execute a comprehensive financial strategy.

The role will also feature core administrative tasks, ensuring the smooth running of the organisation across contracting, insurance, monitoring equipment/assets and saving costs.

We are looking for someone excited to be part of an ambitious over-achieving, under-recognised young organisation in the arts.

Contract: Minimum 9 months, starting July 15th, with view to become permanent

Roles and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Financial Strategy and Management

• Co-creating and monitoring budgets, org-wide and for projects

• Monitoring multiple income streams inc. sales, grants, investments

• Co-designing core/project accounting ledgers to facilitate reporting and monitor metrics

• Streamlining and automating systems, training staff in how to use them

• Support the process of becoming a C.I.O. and adapting finance and reporting systems for new level of requirements

• Managing cashflow and reserves to manage risk.

Reporting

• Reporting to HMRC, Companies House and the Charity Commission

• Liaising with our accountant to get the best systems in place for ease and accuracy of reporting and accounting

• Reporting to multiple funders with different priorities and expense restrictions

• Creating an automated financial reporting system that tracks costs across core, projects, and different funding streams for each

• Overseeing compliance with HMRC including VAT, PAYE and accessing tax benefits such as Theatre Tax Relief (TTR) alongside our accountant.

Administration

• Compiling and digitising receipts and invoices

• Setting up staff and project producer expense accounts where necessary

• Liaising with banking and ensuring staff access to online and card payment

• Creating and using new reference administrative reference systems and filing systems.

Human Resources

• Communicating with our community members, artists and staff about invoicing requirements and payment details, mindful of individuals’ complex needs

• Overseeing setup and budgeting of employment benefits, bonuses, commission, freelance contracts and how to integrate these

• Overseeing creation of a platform for communicating financials transparently to our community of marginalised artists (longer term)

Funding Support

• Note: this is a support role as one of the Artistic Directors will spearhead new funding applications, you will not be applying independently

• Researching and identifying new funding streams, archiving applications, making templates

• Seeking advice from current funders and NGO partners about where to apply

• Tracking funding applications, reporting deadlines, meeting financial requirements

• Following-up on investors, scheduling regular communications with Artistic Directors.
   

Essential skills and requirements

• Proficiency with Mac and Windows

• Three years’ experience in a similar role, ideally in the charity, arts, or activism sector

• Strong ICT skills including relevant accounting/reporting software and G-Suite

Rainbow Migration, the longest-running charity in Europe dedicated to supporting LGBTQI+ people through the asylum and immigration system, is recruiting a Legal Officer to advise and help improve the representation of LGBTQI+ people seeking asylum, and help change the asylum and immigration system to one that treats everyone with compassion, dignity and respect.

We are looking for a qualified solicitor or barrister with valid practising certificate, or already accredited to Level 3 OISC, with two years’ experience in providing advice and representation in asylum including working in legal aid.

You will be responsible for the day-to-day delivery of the legal advice service. Under the guidance of our Legal Service Manager, you will also build capacity amongst legal representatives by designing and delivering training, giving second tier advice and developing and coordinating a network of practitioners working in this area. You will use the knowledge you gain in this role to help deliver Rainbow Migration’s policy work, such as inputting into policy papers and meeting with partner organisations when required.

We will also consider applications from people who do not want to do the policy elements of the job, but to instead focus on first and second tier advice. Please mention in your covering letter if you are applying for this option.

This is a unique opportunity to build on your experience as a lawyer to improve representation across the sector and create change in government policy and practice. You will be supported to develop as a specialist lawyer and in your policy skills.

Responsibilities will include:

· Deliver one-off advice to adult LGBTQI+ people seeking asylum and work with colleagues to refer them to quality legal aid and pro bono lawyers

· Provide casework assistance e.g. helping to prepare witness statements, making referrals to other specialist organisations and taking other urgent steps (whilst not representing service users or maintaining a caseload)

· Provide occasional advice (within competence) on other issues affecting asylum and partnership service users such as asylum support, legal aid, trafficking, family reunion or community care

· Deliver second tier advice to the legal representatives of LGBTQI+ people seeking asylum and other charities and professionals

· Work with the Legal Service Manager to design and deliver training to lawyers, NGOs and other professionals

· Write blogs and articles on asylum and immigration policy and legislation as they apply to LGBTQI+ people

· Contribute to policy and briefing papers

· Assist with preparing guidelines and briefings for legal services and pro bono lawyers

The Legal Officer will not be providing direct legal representation of service users. However, the role includes substantive advice and casework within the scope of legal support and referrals for our service users, as well as merits testing and second tier advice.

Contract Type: Permanent.

Hours: Full-time (35 hours per week). Working part-time or job-sharing will be considered. Occasional work in the evenings and at weekends may be required but with plenty of notice. Rainbow Migration encourages staff to maintain a good work life balance and has a TOIL system in place.

Salary: Starting at £40,175, with potential annual step increases up to £44,868 (pro-rata for part-time employees), plus statutory employer’s pension contribution. In addition to an annual step increase, the trustees consider giving a separate inflationary increase every April. 

Location: Remote or from Rainbow Migration’s offices in central London. Hybrid working will also be considered. The successful candidate could work from anywhere in the UK but would be expected to occasionally travel to London and other parts of the country for meetings and events. We are seeking an organised and driven individual for a maternity cover to lead on our education and training programme, which is facilitating the growth of a talented workforce by inspiring, connecting and retaining the next generation. This is a varied role with a significant focus on events and project management, including special events, as well as engagement activities to raise awareness of career opportunities in the industry. This includes driving forward our new 'My Furniture Career' website aimed at 15 – 24-year-olds and attending careers fairs. This role will also involve working with specialist education providers to support the provision of industry specific education and training.

A successful applicant will have demonstratable experience of organising and delivering large scale events, timely and cost-effective project management and financial reporting. Job Purpose

• To be the focal point for implementing all Education and Training activity within the Company, and to report back to the Education and Training Committee to maximise its reach and effectiveness.
• To implement several large-scale national events engaging young people, industry and specialist education providers.
• Oversee and steer the activity around a new website to engage young people with possible careers in the industry, ensuring growing engagement with young people and job posters.
• To administer and deliver several small grant programmes which support furniture and furniture students or those working with said students.
• To support and report quarterly to the Education and Training Committee.

Key Responsibilities

Events

• Young Furniture Makers Exhibition - To plan, organise and deliver the annual one-day exhibition showcasing the best new talent to industry. Securing event sponsorship and working with sponsors during the organisation process to ensure positive relationships. Working with over 70 exhibitors, multiple sponsors and external suppliers to ensure a successful event.
• Young Professional Industry Engagement event programme - To plan, organise and deliver the annual three-week programme of CPD visits for a selected group of participants to industry hosts across the UK. Working with participants and over 20 organisations to schedule and deliver the programme.
• Furniture Making T-Level conference – Working with the Chair of the Education and Training Committee and selected members to plan, organise and implement a one-day conference on the practicalities of overing the Furniture T-Level in an educational setting.
• Organise and attend several regional career fairs and trade shows to promote the education and training initiatives and encourage young people to consider a career in furniture and furnishings.
• Plan and organise the content of an Education and Training slot at the annual Furniture Makers’ HR Conference to highlight key events and programmes.
• Ensure that equality, diversity and inclusion is considered in all aspects of Education and Training events.

Grants

• Administer a small annual grants scheme supporting colleges and universities which provide specialist furniture and furnishing education courses.
• Manage a travel bursary scheme to support exhibitors attending the Young Furniture Makers Exhibition.

Website

• Administer the jobs board featured on the My Furniture Career website, screening and approving posted vacancies as well as liaising with those posting jobs to confirm the status of the vacancy, sharing data once the vacancy expires and collecting feedback data from the poster.
• To work with the Digital Officer to agree a schedule of content for the website and its associated social media.
• Work with the Communications Manager and Digital Officer to promote the use of the website by the targeted audience group as well as the HR community to post vacancies to the jobs board.
• Produce a quarterly report detailing the usage and any highlights regarding the website.
• Report any technical issues to the website provider and liaise with them to fix the issue.

Reporting

• Quarterly reporting on activity and budget to the Education and Training Committee.
• Supporting the Committee Chair by setting up Committee meetings and taking minutes.
• Supporting the Committee Chair with any other administration as necessary related to the Committee. 
• Assist with any ad hoc administration as necessary related to the FIESTA Committee.

Miscellaneous

• Assisting the Education and Training Committee Chair with any administration in regard to the Masters Certificate Scheme.
• Send quarterly feedback surveys mentoring participants and collect the data for reporting purposes.
• Work with the Communications and Marketing Manager to promote Education and Training events.
• Keep the Education and Training budget up to date and process all invoices in a timely manner.
• Report back to all event sponsors after any Education and Training sponsored event to keep sponsors updated and aware of the events successes.

Our Fundraising Team is formed of several fundraising strands, an established grants programme, a digital fundraising stream raising income from the public, and a philanthropy team working with individuals. We are seeking a Senior Fundraising Officer to join us to support our exciting fundraising initiatives.

What you’ll do (key responsibilities)

Reporting to the Senior Fundraising Manager, you will be instrumental in supporting our Fundraising team across; Trusts & Foundations, Major Donors and Individual Giving.

In assisting with the coordination of the fundraising portfolio, the main responsibilities of the role will include:

• Leading on the delivery of 2 x Individual Giving appeals per year (Big Give);
• Leading on our Gift Aid management for all donors;
• Monitoring our team inbox, online and postal donations and ensuring a high level of donor care is maintained, including thanking and being the first point of contact for individual donor enquiries;
• Maintaining up-to-date supporter records on our database and identifying opportunities to improve processes for tracking relationships and capturing data on our progress;
• Prospect Research for trusts, foundations, statutory funders, as well as major donors identified by the team;
• Acting as the Relationship Manager for a small pipeline of Trust and Foundations;
• Assisting in the planning, administration and delivery of fundraising and stewardship events;
• Assisting in regular reporting and updates to both staff and funders;
• Working with our Finance team to track donation payments, process invoices etc;
• Supporting the Senior Fundraising Manager and the Communications team in the online planning, administration and analysis of Individual Giving Programmes;
• Supporting with copywriting and pulling information together to share with funders;

The role

MIND in Haringey and its partner Public Voice delivers the Voluntary and Community (VCS) Capacity Building contract commissioned by the London Borough of Haringey. Purpose of job:

About this role

The role of the Finance and Payroll Manager is to support the Development and Finance teams to manage and report on restricted income, as well as to manage monthly in-house payroll under the guidance of the Head of Finance. This involves ensuring that we are maximising the use of restricted funding, and that money is spent in line with donors’ wishes and that staff are paid accurately and on time each month. The Finance and Payroll Manager will work within a small Finance team under the supervision of the Head of Finance. They will work closely with the Joint ED, wider Senior Management Team, Head of Development and budget holders throughout the organisation.

They will support the Head of Finance with annual budgeting and quarterly re-forecasting as well as with the production of the monthly management accounts. They will support the Development team in making grant applications and develop restricted grant budgets for newly secured grants for integration into the organisational budget; they will meet regularly with the Development team and budget holders to review restricted project spend. They will produce reports for funders working in conjunction with our Development Team and casework teams. The Finance and Payroll Manager will contribute to a culture of continuous improvement of the finance systems, processes and grant management tools to ensure they continue to be fit for purpose.

The role is a full-time, permanent position with an annual salary of £50,571 per annum less any required deductions for Income Tax and National Insurance.

3. Set budgets, tightly control costs and identify opportunities for making savings, growing income and making the case for investment.

4. Appropriately monitor and evaluate our research and public affairs work with a view to knowing, growing and showing the impact we make.

Research

5. Work closely with the CEO, Policy and Research Manager, R&P sub-committee and Wales Office to determine and oversee the charity’s programme of commissioned research, research grants, and in-house research.
