Does your fascination and passion for creating a better world for future generations also come with superb attention to detail and a way with words? Are you seeking a way in which your views can be heard, read and absorbed by others
Here at Clean Air Fund we are on a mission to create a world where everyone breathes clean air – no exceptions and definitely no excuses.
We are making amazing progress and are a team of collaborative, ambitious, committed and ‘don’t take no for an answer’ type of people. But we need more people who are as dedicated to the cause as we are. People who see a job as more than a way to pay the bills (we understand it needs to do that by the way) but also a way to make a real difference and to effect demonstrable change.
If you are seeking an organisation that will give you space to grow your experience whilst sharing your ideas, opinions and solutions in the most pressing climate challenge facing the world – AND you have an academic research background in atmospheric and climate science then we really should talk.
The role:
As the Science Officer you will be the communications support for the Super Pollutants portfolio that includes the black carbon initiative. You will draw on your scientific research experience and science communications abilities, supporting projects with technical input and researching, analysing and creating unwaveringly accurate scientific communications spanning climate science and health impacts.
You will have a knack for distilling information into actionable insight and accessible external communications – your way with words and understanding of audience demographics will ensure the clarity and impact of your messaging.
Whilst your research background will give you the essential insight and expertise to contribute widely, this role is where your academic prowess comes to life in real-life deliverables. You will be called upon to support the design and management of research and science communication grants and projects, to coordinate key meetings and workshops and to support Finance in how we manage cashflow and reporting.
Throughout you will keep abreast of developments within the fields of air pollution, super pollutants and climate mitigation especially related to science and research, policy development, innovation, technology and impact analyses and portfolio relevant developments. You will never stop learning and developing your deep understanding of this subject and will inevitably become an expert.
Your experience:
Beyond your essential research experience in atmospheric and climate science, in particular experience working on black carbon or other super pollutants you will
• Be able to demonstrate that you think and act strategically
• Possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to efficiently explain and discuss complex topics in layman’s terms.
Finally:
Please note – this is not a research role. Your research experience will have got you here – now it is time to put that knowledge and academic horsepower to work in a role that will offer you exposure to opportunities to grow your career and to demonstrate how you can make a contribution and be part of an ambition to change the world for the better. Not many jobs truly offer that.
We look forward to hearing from you.

Permanent, full-time (37.5 hours per week)
Hybrid working with regular travel to our London Bridge Office
Prostate cancer is harming too many men, in exchange for too few cures, which is why we are motivated more than ever to deliver a future where prostate cancer is no longer limiting men’s lives. We invest in the most innovative research which will expand our understanding of prostate cancer and one day improve the lives of men with the disease. Recently we announced the funding of the TRANSFORM study, a £42 million programme to trial on a national scale new ways to screen for prostate cancer. It’s through this initiative that we intend to generate the definitive evidence needed to underpin a national screening programme for prostate cancer which could save thousands of men’s lives each year.
What the job involves
As a Diagnosis Research Lead, you’ll oversee the management of the TRANSFORM study on behalf of the charity, closely monitoring progress and spend against project timelines/budgets and regularly reporting back to key stakeholders internally and externally about this exciting initiative. You’ll regularly liaise with the study leads and the wider network of collaborators, as well as set up and oversee the management of the governance steering committees for the programme.
You’ll develop a detailed understanding of our portfolio of research and the wider diagnostic research landscape for prostate cancer, establishing and maintaining relationships with relevant research groups and companies working in the diagnostic space. This role will also involve working closely with colleagues in our communications and fundraising directorates to showcase the TRANSFORM study to public, scientific and healthcare professional audiences, demonstrating our research efforts towards achieving earlier and accurate diagnosis.
What we want from you
We believe the TRANSFORM study will generate practice-changing evidence to support screening for prostate cancer, with the potential to save thousands of men’s lives in the UK each year. This is therefore a critical role to us. We’re looking for someone who is passionate about, and experienced in, research grant management and in particular, the management and delivery of multi-site clinical trials.
We’re looking for someone who is enthusiastic about research and able to understand and communicate complex scientific information found in applications, progress reports, research papers and presentations. You’ll be a confident and clear communicator, able to build strong working relationships and provide valuable support to a wide range of stakeholders, including senior researchers, senior colleagues, trustees, corporate partners and committee members.
With experience in project management, you’ll have an ability to organise and prioritise a diverse workload depending on business need, delivering to stipulated timeframes whilst consistently maintaining the highest standards, with a meticulous attention to detail. This role will also require you to be proficient in the use of standard IT packages (most notably Microsoft Office), ideally with experience of grant management software such as Symplectic Grant Tracker.
Importantly, you must be excited and motivated about achieving major improvements for men with, or at high risk of, prostate cancer.
Why work with us?
Every man needs to know about the most common cancer in men – prostate cancer. It’s a real and present danger that takes over 12,000 of our dads, grandads, brothers and friends each year.
Prostate Cancer UK is the largest men’s health charity in the UK. We have a simple ambition – to stop prostate cancer damaging lives. We invest millions in research to revolutionise testing, treatment and care. We’re blazing a trail to a screening programme that could save thousands of lives with regular, accurate tests for all men at risk. And we work tirelessly to spread the word about risk and offer specialist support to people living with the disease.
Work with us and you’ll see your efforts pay off as we give men and their families the power to navigate prostate cancer.
Our commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion
At Prostate Cancer UK, we believe that equity, diversity and inclusion are essential to building a strong and innovative workplace that represents, and can advocate for, the communities we support.
It’s our ambition to become an anti-racist organisation, and our mission to advance racial equity in the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer.
We’re continuously learning more about the needs of our colleagues, and have three amazing People Networks, sponsored by our Leadership team: Pride, Mind & Body and Multicultural.

We recognise that many applicants use AI tools like ChatGPT for drafting applications. Whilst these tools can be helpful, we advise you to first write your application personally and then use AI to refine it. This approach ensures your application remains original and truly reflective of your unique experiences. Last year, we noticed a trend of AI-generated applications lacking individuality, which hindered our ability to connect with applicants. Remember, it's your personal story, passions and motivations that make you stand out. Let AI assist you, but let your own voice lead the way.

Our UK team is looking for an enthusiastic and committed individual to join us as a Programme Funding Officer (PFO). This is an exciting and varied role working across the funding cycle from the early stage of new opportunities through to grant management. Given the changing external funding environment and evolving context in the UK, we are looking for an individual who is willing to be flexible and adapt to the context in order to meet the organisation’s needs and have the biggest impact for people with disabilities.
The main purpose of this post is:
· Improving our track record for UK and other funding by increasing internal understanding of donors and funding mechanisms in your portfolio, supporting high quality submissions, grant management and donor compliance
Strengthening relationships with, and generating and managing funding from UK and other institutional donors and partners
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Supporting the work of the Head of Institutional Relations, you will have sound knowledge of the donors and funding mechanisms in your portfolio, and contribute proactively to influencing their funding strategies and priorities. Duties include:

· Identify and build relationships with a portfolio of large public and private institutional donors and their key suppliers (e.g. INGOs and for-profit development companies), mobilising colleagues from UK and across the global organisation as required.
· Work with country programmes to develop country-level action plans to engage with local representatives of UK donors and partners, in order to strengthen in-country relationships, influence donors’ country-level plans and access in-country funding opportunities. This will also involve supporting the development of multi-year operational plans and advise on the funding possibilities offered by UK institutional donors.
· Anticipate future trends and the expectations of the donors and funding mechanisms in your portfolio, influence their policies and strategies, and negotiate and consult with them on institutional funding matters, in liaison with the appropriate colleagues from the UK team and federal network.
· In coordination with the Head of Institutional Relations and the Chief Executive, monitor and where needed, contribute to collective work and advocacy initiatives in collaboration with partners and INGO networks (such as the Start Network and targeted Bond groups) with the aim of raising HI’s profile and influencing UK donors in line with our influencing priorities.
Generate and manage institutional funding from UK donors
You will follow and champion HI’s internal institutional funding procedures to identify and analyse funding opportunities from UK sources, contribute to project submissions, and carry out grant management duties. You will:
· Monitor, identify, analyse and communicate all relevant funding opportunities from donors in your portfolio (including development and humanitarian grant opportunities and commercial contracts). This will involve facilitating internal go/no go decision-making for new opportunities and advising, and supporting programme colleagues on positioning and consortium-building when relevant.
· Lead the review and analysis of the requirements in new funding agreements and contracts, advise internal stakeholders on compliance and ensure appropriate contract negotiation and due diligence processes are followed.
· Implement internal procedures for contract/grant management and support the submission of reporting and payment requests according to donor requirements.
Improve our track record for UK institutional funding
You will be responsible for increasing internal understanding of UK donors and funding mechanisms in your portfolio, supporting high quality strategic submissions and donor compliance. You will:
· Create internal communications, train and brief finance, programme and technical staff (including country programmes) on the donors in your portfolio, ensuring they have the tools and knowledge to comply with donor rules, understand donor priorities and focus areas, and maximise the potential for funding.
· Support proposal development, advising on donor requirements, expectations and preferences.
· Build strong relationships and internal links with technical and programme teams and contribute to internal working groups on issues related to institutional funding.
Other duties
· Maintain a positive and collaborative working relationship with HI UK colleagues and the Federal Institutional Funding, and Operations teams.
· Actively contribute to the HI UK operational plan and team work plans, and internal staff meetings.
· Ensure high quality, accurate internal reporting and information management for your portfolio.
· Keep abreast of developments within the sector by liaising with counterparts in other NGOs, and relevant networks.
· Represent HI UK at external forums and meetings when relevant.
· Any other activities commensurate with the level of the post, as may be required by the Chief Executive or Head of Team.
Equal opportunities policy
HI UK is committed to diversity and inclusion. We recognise that discrimination shapes the opportunities that many people have in society and that people have different needs in order to realise their full potential. Addressing this requires organisations to be proactive in creating environments that encourage the inclusion and development of all. Though we still have a long way to go, inclusion is central to our identity at HI UK and we are strongly committed to the continuous work that it requires.
We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates with disabilities and/or from Black and minority ethnic backgrounds, to help make us more representative. If you have a disability and meet the minimum requirements for the role, we will guarantee you an interview.

More about Parentkind
Parentkind is a national federated charity that aims to advance education by encouraging the fullest cooperation between home and school, education authorities, central government and all other interested parties and bodies. We are proud to be the leading membership organisation for parent teacher associations in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Parentkind seeks to represent all these parent groups as they strive to help every child in their school and we support our 12,500 members to raise £122m annually.
As well as helping parent groups on the ground, we provide resources to support parent participation in education at school and home so that every child can thrive and reach their potential. Ultimately, we want more parents to be empowered to be involved and engaged in their child’s education. The evidence is clear that parental participation in education benefits children in schools and society and increases the opportunities for social mobility for our younger generations.
We are working towards a future where this is considered an essential ingredient in the success of our children’s education by society, schools and parents themselves by:
- Engaging and inspiring individual parents
- Supporting our PTA and other member associations and growing the number if PTAs across the UK
- Helping schools be parent-friendly through guidance and training
- Working with partners
- Championing the role of those with parental responsibility in their child’s education through our research and by influencing education sector interests and policymakers.
The charity's impact is significant, and our work ensures that parent and carer voices are heard at a local, regional, and national level.
