Job description

The Henry Smith Charity is one of the largest grant making foundations in the UK distributing close to around £40m of grants in 2020. It aims to bring about lasting change to people's lives, helping them to benefit from and contribute to society, and achieves this by funding organisations that work with people to reduce social and economic disadvantage.

We are delighted to be recruiting an Interim Head of Grants to lead our grants team for a period of 12 months. We have recently appointed an Interim CEO whilst we commence the recruitment for the successor to our previous Director who recently stepped down. This position will bridge these two people and provide support to the team through this transition period.

The post holder will lead the Grants Team and support grant-making colleagues to ensure the effective day to day delivery of Henry Smith Charity's Main Grants programme. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will also play an active role in the strategic development and smooth running of the charity.

The successful candidate will ideally have a proven track record of leading and managing grant teams within the sector with experience of navigating teams through periods of transition. You will have excellent sector knowledge, including the challenges facing the communities the charity serves, as well as a critical eye to offer insights on grant making systems you have encountered beforehand.

Henry Smith Charity offer a range of generous benefits including 24 days annual leave, company pension scheme, paid volunteering days, access to a free Empathy helpline, travel ticket loan and cycle to work scheme. The office is London based, but like many employers, Henry Smith Charity is currently trialling hybrid working.

Henry Smith Charity highly value the principles of diversity, equity and inclusion and this is central to their successes in grant making, helping individuals and communities to thrive. They welcome applications from people with a wide range of backgrounds and experience including people with disabilities, Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic backgrounds, people who identify as LGBTQI+ and individuals from different socio-economic and educational backgrounds.

To find out more about this role, please apply with a Word format version of your CV; cover letters are not required at this stage.

Please let us know if you need any additional support to take part in the selection process. If your application is successful, the organisation will make reasonable adjustments to help facilitate an appropriate working environment to enable you to fulfil the role.

Interviews will take place on 18th July.
