Our Education Programmes are focused on engaging primary schools, secondary schools and sixth form colleges across the UK to take part in our programmes and ensure LGBT+ young people can thrive. Just Like Us has already worked with thousands of schools and gained recognition for our Growing up LGBT+ report (2020) and our Positive Futures report (2023). By 2025, we aim to reach more than 60,000 school pupils annually through our programmes. 

This role is critical to the delivery of this mission and will support the Head of Education Programmes to meet the needs of our several thousand-strong school network so that we can reach even more LGBT+ young people across the UK. This role will be working across School Diversity Week and the Pride Groups programme. 

This role is an entry-level position and will provide the successful candidate with a strong foundation for a career in the voluntary sector. We are looking for someone who is eager to learn, with strong organisational and administrative skills, and good communication skills to join a friendly, driven Programmes Team.

Job description

Programme delivery:

• Support the Programmes Team to deliver our programmes, including Pride Groups, School Talks and School Diversity Week 
• Manage the administration of Education Programmes 
• Act as a first point of contact for schools on our programmes, answering questions, sharing new resources and encouraging participation. This includes engaging with new schools to increase our networks and managing a busy inbox 
• Engage new schools to increase our networks, including representing the charity at conferences and events 
• Maintain good relationships with school contacts, lead on liaising with school staff to confirm bookings, monitoring invoices, membership and renewals
• Work collaboratively across teams to manage logistics and ensure the smooth running of Just Like Us programmes throughout the academic year. 
• Support the delivery of our education programmes, including delivering talks, and training for teachers and other education stakeholders on LGBT+ issues
• Support with the creation and development of education resources 
• Assist the monitoring and evaluation of programmes by distributing surveys, collecting case studies and providing analysis of data obtained to evidence our impact
• Support our marketing and communication initiatives, writing emails and monitoring open rates
• Assist with the maintenance of our online portals of resources for school staff and the online school staff networks 
• Support programme effectiveness by streamlining internal workflows and procedures

New Horizon Youth Centre has been commissioned by the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) as part of an Alliance with Safer London, St Giles Trust and the Anna Freud Centre to deliver on their Children and Young People’s Violence and Exploitation and Reduction support service. The commission will run from June 2024 for three years. As part of this, an additional service will be set up within the NHYC Youth Justice team specifically to deliver on the Alliance contract. This will include a team of Housing Caseworkers who will carry out assessments and advocacy work with young people under 25 who are fleeing violence and exploitation, in order to move them on successfully into both emergency and long-term housing options. You should be passionate about working with this client group, able to manage a fast-moving caseload, and committed to working collaboratively with a team across multiple services.

About this key role

This multi-faceted role will see our successful candidate produce monthly management accounts for St Giles Trust with commentary and key performance indicators, monitor and report on budget and prepare financial forecasts and projections, plus prepare monthly schedules such as deferred income, accruals, and prepayment in accordance with accounting policies.

We will also count on you to monitor expenditure and income and support budget holders in managing the delegated budget by providing monthly reports on income, grant, and expenditure and to monitor the organisation’s expenditure and income, as well as supporting managers with the preparation of funders’ monthly or quarterly reports on fund usage.  Coordinating the year-end financial accounts and supporting the

Head of Finance to ensure a smooth process and being point of contact for all financial systems related matters are also key aspects of the role.

• Apply various tools such as investment appraisal techniques to better inform decision making.
• Support the business in gathering evidence to assess the costs, benefits and risks of a wide range of delivery options when making commercial decisions, and provide advice which helps secure value-for-money (vfm).
• Support the business in the development of detailed business cases.
• Build strong and positive relationships with budget holders and senior managers (notably heads of Departments), providing the necessary assistance and professional advice to assist them with the financial aspects of their duties.

The successful candidate will:

• Be a fully qualified Accountant.
• Have strong analytical skills, able to identify and interpret trends and improve financial forecasting
• Have the ability to understand the strategic business goals of an organisation, able to ‘look beyond the numbers’ and understand the wider business context.
• Be a team player, with exceptional interpersonal skills, able to work with a diverse and broad range of stakeholders across the organisation. Demonstrable ability to influence.
• Have good written and oral communication skills, able to communicate clearly, concisely, accurately and in ways that promote understanding but stands ground when needed
• Have strong finance system skills including advanced Excel skills

Desirable criteria:

• An understanding of accounting policy and an appreciation of the implications for an organisation of Government legislation and accounting standards

This position will be based officially at the head office in Kew and will require the postholder to work from the office three days a week.

The team works pan London to deliver a unique, youth-specific outreach service to young people currently or at risk of rough sleeping. We use our extensive housing expertise to place those young people into accommodation that is appropriate and safe whilst encouraging them to access the day centre to benefit from the wide range of services we offer. The Outreach Worker will work as part of Rough Sleeping Team to deliver at least two street outreach shifts per week and transitional casework to young people facing rough sleeping. You will need to be willing to work early mornings and late evenings, to travel across London to identify young people who need our support, and to work flexibly to respond to evolving needs. The ideal candidate will bring energy, creativity and a keen eye for detail. This is an exciting time to join the team as we look to refine our offer and pilot new solutions to rough sleeping.
