About This Role

We are looking for an exceptional Volunteer Manager to lead and nurture our London volunteer community, which is made up of almost 400 volunteers. This role is key to ensuring every volunteer feels valued, supported, and inspired to give their best in helping women succeed in their employment journeys.

You will be responsible for the full volunteer journey – from recruitment, induction, and training through to ongoing engagement and recognition. You’ll work closely with colleagues across the London centres and the wider Smart Works network to ensure our volunteer community remains strong, inclusive, and aligned with our values.

The role would be based across all three London centres (Islington, Ladbroke Grove and Croydon), and there will be occasional evening and weekend work, for which time off in lieu is given.

The successful candidate will build strong working relations with our staff team and volunteers, as well as the teams across Smart Works centres in the UK. We are a community that shares a passion to empower women to thrive in work and life, determined to meet our aim of helping as many women as we can back into work.

Team background

The Mental Health Crisis Breathing Space (MHCBS) project is a national initiative providing debt respite for people receiving mental health crisis treatment. Toynbee Hall plays a key role in delivering this support through our dedicated Advice Team, which offers regulated debt advice, manages MHCBS renewal checks, and provides wraparound signposting to additional services.

The team is made up of skilled Debt Advisors and Project Administrators, supported by technical supervision to ensure consistent quality and compliance. Together, they help clients navigate complex financial situations with empathy and professionalism. The Advice Manager oversees the delivery and performance of this service, ensuring advice is accurate, person-centred, and aligned with Toynbee Hall’s high standards.

Through this collaborative and well-supported structure, the team helps people in crisis regain financial stability and build long-term resilience.

Job purpose

Lead and support the delivery of high-quality local services by working collaboratively with your team to ensure daily, uninterrupted provision. Provide clear guidance, set achievable targets, and foster a positive, solution-focused environment. Champion team objectives and encourage shared success. Monitor and audit advice quality to maintain compliance and consistency with internal and external standards. Build strong relationships with our contract lead, providing accurate reporting and constructive feedback to drive continuous improvement and service excellence.

Scope of role

The Advice Manager is responsible for the effective national management and delivery of the Mental Health Crisis Breathing Space (MHCBS) service. This role oversees day-to-day operations, ensuring that advice provision meets the highest standards of quality, consistency, and compliance in line with both Toynbee Hall and Money and Pensions Service (MaPS) frameworks. Working closely with technical supervisors, quality managers, the Head of Quality and Compliance, and the contract organisation lead, the Advice Manager will ensure the service is performing effectively and meeting contractual targets.

The postholder will bring significant experience in debt advice delivery, including the ability to manage complex cases, creditor challenges, and service escalations with professionalism and sound judgement. They will lead and support a dispersed, largely remote team, oversee auditing and training, maintain oversight of billables, and ensure resources are used effectively. This role requires a balance of operational leadership and technical expertise to maintain service excellence across all areas of delivery.

We seek a Finance Officer to join our small team. You will report to the Head of Finance to provide bookkeeping and accounting support for Global Dialogue and Global Dialogue Ventures Limited. You will use Xero and be responsible for many aspects of operational finance including maintaining accurate records in the organisation’s purchase and sales ledgers; processing accounts payable and receivable; bank and other reconciliations; supporting month, quarter and year-end closes; and resolving ad hoc queries. 

This role is part-time. We are open to negotiating a working pattern that works for the successful candidate and for Global Dialogue. 

Terms Permanent, 21-28 hours per week, subject to 12-week probationary period

Location Home-based. Must have right to work in UK.

Reporting Reports to the Head of Finance 

Remuneration This role has been benchmarked at a UK salary of £33,000 (pro rata for a part time position). Global Dialogue offers a range of benefits including 25 days’ annual leave plus public holidays (pro rata), a flexible working policy, and personal development leave. Job Description

Maintaining purchase ledger: 

• Review staff and consultant expense claims 

• Reconcile monthly credit card and Soldo statements

• Help prepare for bi-monthly pay runs by reviewing bill postings, ensuring they have received appropriate approvals 

• Setting up payments in bank accounts

• Manage the posting and reconciliation of Employee of Record invoices

 Maintaining sales ledger: 

• Post grant income to Salesforce and Xero, following up any missing paperwork and queries

• Manage monthly programme income and reporting reminders 

• Maintain Salesforce to ensure accuracy of data

 Bank: 

• Bank reconciliation for organisation’s GBP, EUR, USD bank accounts, for review by Head of Finance

• Paypal processing and reconciliations

• Support Head of Finance with FX transaction adjustments

 Reconciliations and journals: 

• Support Head of Finance with a variety of monthly and quarterly reconciliations, prepayments and accruals

• Work with Head of Finance to keep finance policies and other documentation up to date

Person Specification 

• A recognised accountancy qualification and/or qualified by experience in accounting 

• Able to demonstrate strong experience of Xero accounting software

• Good MS Office skills, especially Excel

• Track record of working to deadlines without close supervision and can ‘hit the ground running’

• Strong analytical and numerical skills, including the ability to sense check your own work
