Action Syria (formerly Hands Up Foundation) is a small and innovative charity that funds health and education programmes in Syria and neighbouring countries. Hands Up Foundation was founded in 2012 and has raised millions for humanitarian aid in Syria and surrounding countries. To mark their commitment to helping Syrian people affected by conflict, displacement, and natural disaster, they changed their name from Hands Up Foundation to Action Syria in 2024.

This role is offered on a flexible permanent contract basis paying a salary between £40,000 to £50,000 per annum with flexible hybrid working arrangements at their Office in Shoreditch.

This newly created role will be part of the senior leadership team and lead the fundraising function at Action Syria. The post holder will work with the CEO and team to deliver their ambitious fundraising goals over the next three years with an aim to increase annual income to £1 million. They will also aim to expand and diversify their supporter base with emphasis on attracting new audiences and networks; gaining more multi-year grants from Trusts, Foundations and major donors; building regular giving; joint fundraising partnerships (e.g. commercial partnerships); and building on current relationships with peer organizations which have a particular interest in Syria.

They are looking for someone with demonstrable experience of developing fundraising strategies, networking, and delivering to large income targets. They are looking for a candidate with a demonstrable track record of securing six figure funds from multiple sources and confident of working at a senior level externally. The ideal candidate will have an Interest in the Middle East and Action Syria’s cause.

Purpose

This is a vital role sitting as part of the Senior leadership team at Hope and contributing to the future sustainability and development of Hope.

The purpose of the role is to manage all aspects of Income Generation and manage the commissioned projects which Hope run.

Developing a long term sustainable income generation portfolio you will have responsibility for your own income generation and manage the fundraising team to deliver their financial targets, motivating and monitoring them to achieve success.

Our current income generation activity currently generates around £1.2million per annum and it is the post holders responsibility to grow this income to achieve £1.5million per annum in the next 5 years to ensure Hope can achieve it’s newly launched Operational Strategy.

There is also a likely a facility move in the future, where the Head of Development would need to access funds, in addition to operational budget, for a facility transformation project.

As Line Manager for Hope’s commissioned projects you will have overall responsibility to deliver on the contracts for which we have been commissioned and identify growth potential for the organisation.

Responsibilities

• To Manage all aspects of income generation at Hope.
• To deliver a diverse fundraising portfolio to ensure long-term sustainability.
• To lead a small team of fundraisers and work with the Marketing Manager to achieve income levels as determined by the CEO and Board of trustees.
• To Line Manage and lead on all commissioned work, people recruited and project management.
• To be responsible for all reporting related to grants, trusts and/commissioned work.
• To be part of both Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and Senior Management Team (SMT), helping set the strategic direction for the organisation and ensuring it is implemented effectively.

Leadership:

• To develop and deliver a Fundraising Strategy and associated annual Fundraising Plans to achieve income levels that enable Hope to fulfil its Strategic Framework priorities 2024-2029.
• To work with CEO and our new ‘finance sub-group’ to develop and oversee our budget and forecasting process, agreeing targets, providing realistic profiles, understanding the seasonality of income, and highlighting risks.
• Identify new opportunities for income generation and deliver an agile approach to trends in fundraising and changes in society giving.
• Lead the commissioned program teams to achieve the desired outcomes.

Management:

• Lead a small team of dedicated Fundraising Senior Coordinators to access funds to ensure the ongoing delivery of Hopes Homeless, Hunger and Hardship priorities.
• To manage 1:1 meeting, annual appraisals.
• To manage all posts associated with commissioned project’s sitting outside our core objectives,
• To ensure that the values of Hope are embedded across all the work we do.
• To engage and maintain relationships with volunteers to support and enhance the work of the fundraising team.

Partnerships:

• To be an ambassador for Hope in the community, showcasing the work we do across Northamptonshire to facilitate fundraising opportunities to fulfil your personal fundraising objectives and those of the wider team.

o Churches and other community groups including schools.

• To build and maintain relationship with WNC and NNC, especially the Public Health Teams and Councillors, to maintains Hopes positive relationship, so that we can continue to be a trusted partner and access commissioned contracts to enhance our core offer.

Fundraising

• Work closely with Marketing Manager to ensure a clear public donation pathway exists linking to website, social media, events promotion, and any other marketing- tracking success of each communication approach at increasing income.
• To manage all grants and trusts contracts from application to reporting and ongoing engagements.
• Lead on major donor, VIP and legacy events to ensure further income opportunities.
• To manage all commissioned projects from application, to oversight of project delivery, including management of posts recruited to reporting and ongoing engagement.
• Lead any future capital fundraising appeals for new of existing facilities.

General:

• To be an active and effective member of the Senior Leadership team and ambassador for the work of the organisation, our strategic framework 2024-2029 and our values in all you do.
• To work some hours outside of normal office hours (including evenings and weekends).

Overview of Role:

CAT is entering an exciting phase in its development.  In recent years the organisation has achieved significant growth in student numbers, membership and fundraising income.  We have ambitious plans for a transformative project, Cynefin: a flagship, sustainable Welsh visitor attraction and skills hub which is included in the portfolio for the Mid Wales Growth Deal.

EDUCATION FOR ALL MOROCCO transforms the lives of marginalised girls, in the High Atlas mountains, enabling them to fulfil their potential, reducing social injustice and inequalities, improving the quality of life for women, and their communities.

Prior to the Al Haouz earthquake in September 2023 EFA funded six boarding houses, enabling young women to access senior school education. Five boarding houses were destroyed. Astonishingly, no girls or staff were in them at the time.

We are unashamedly ambitious to build on EFAs transformational work over the last two decades. Our Covid Recovery Strategy focussed on widening our impact, and the earthquake has just made us even more determined to deliver on our promise, because we have never been more relevant.

Due to the extraordinary generosity of donors, we have funding in place to support a major rebuilding programme. However we don't want to simply rebuild. Due to covid and the earthquake there is a lot of catching up to do.

As Head of Fundraising & Communications you will work with the trustees to deliver the strategic vision, by developing and implementing a  successful fundraising and communications strategy.  A new website is under construction and the successful applicant will play a leading role in determining its fundraising functionality, content, and messaging.

Being Head of Fundraising at Heart of Kent Hospice

As Head of Fundraising, you’ll be heading up an incredible team of 6 dedicated fundraising staff who, along with the support of our volunteers, work tirelessly to support our Hospice. Their dedication to, and care for, our supporters generates over £1.8 million annually, which is vital for funding our care.

This role is a hands-on, doing role, responsible for the day-to-day running of the fundraising function at the Hospice. Survivors’ Network was established in 1990 by a group of survivors of childhood sexual abuse to provide services that would support other survivors. We were the first organisation in Brighton and Hove specifically focused on supporting adult survivors of sexual abuse in childhood, over time expanding to support to all survivors of sexual violence, regardless of age, gender or background, across the whole county of Sussex.

Sitting within the senior management team, the role of Head of Finance is to provide a robust and focused finance function for the organisation, as well as line managing the Finance Officer. The postholder will be responsible for monitoring and reporting on the financial position of the organisation, providing strategic financial advice to the Senior Management Team and managing the day-to-day finance operations. You will be a qualified accountant with solid experience of working at a senior level. You will be adept at managing all aspects of finance, including financial reporting and providing management reporting tools. Your skills in analysing and interpreting financial data will be crucial in forecasting and leading on budgets. Additionally, you will have a proven track record in developing strategic business plans.

• Young Women's IDVA Support - specialist, long term support for young survivors of abuse and violence in their close relationships 
• Deepin Dance - a weekly dance space for young women aged 16-25 who have survived relationship violence 
• Wellbeing Activities - regular community-based wellbeing workshops, trips and creative days for young people aged 11-25

The charity currently engages over 100 young people each year in intervention and healing activities, with an additional target of 1500 young people per year to be engaged in the Deepin Relationships programme through funding awarded from May 2024 - May 2026. 

The primary role of the Head of Programmes is to oversee the delivery, development and evaluation of all programmes, which will include direct line management of all delivery staff (currently seven).

Youth Realities is currently going through an exciting transitional period, as the current Founder and CEO is leaving the charity in August 2024 and a new CEO will be joining our excellent team. With both SLT members being new to the charity, this is a brilliant opportunity to bring fresh perspectives, energy and passion to Youth Realities, taking guidance from the knowledge and experience of the serving staff team. 

It will be critical that the first few months of this role are spent learning, exploring, listening to and working closely with staff and young people supported. Building strong staff relationships is crucial to the success of this role, to be able to truly understand how the charity operates as a small, grass-roots community provision.

The Head of Operations will oversee three warehouses in Bristol and one in Plymouth to coordinate the delivery of around 40 tonnes of surplus food each week to c400 front line organisations. The right person will combine a love of logistics, a passion for reducing food waste and leading multi-dimensional teams.            Strategic Development

• Develop and implement the operations strategy (consisting of warehouse, fleet, health & safety and compliance strategies)

• Drive innovation, efficiencies and improvements across operations to increase environmental and social impact while reducing costs where possible

• Align operational capacity with growth plans across surplus food volumes, volunteers, staff and our membership service, working closely with the Operations Leadership Team and the COO

• Prepare and report on operational metrics for the Senior Leadership Team and Board of Trustees

  Operational Management

• Ensure efficient setup and the ongoing operation of all warehouses including seasonal uplifts, remote and temporary operations

• Create and manage the operational budget, ensuring expenditure is at/below target

• Liaise with our food sourcing teams to make the best use of available food to meet the

  demands of members whilst seeking to minimise waste

• Efficiently manage all warehouse buildings, equipment, and vehicle compliance

• Provide operational guidance to strategic partner organisations supporting the charity

  to deliver the FareShare South West service

• Manage and support our Fleet Coordinator and hold ultimate responsibility for our fleet

  of vehicles and material handling equipment

  Health & Safety and Compliance

• Lead on charity-wide adherence to food safety and health & safety regulations, ensuring all teams are trained to the required standards

• Maintain compliance with internal FareShare South West policies, and the national charity FareShare UK policies, within which we operate

• Hold ultimate responsibility for the oversight of external audits and timely implementation of corrective actions, working closely with the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Executive Officer

  Workforce Development

• As a member of the Operations Leadership Team, support with internal policy development, operational restructures etc, as guided by the COO

• Balance staff rotas for safe and effective operations, including provision for seasonal fluctuations

• Manage recruitment, training and development of warehouse teams, including Health & Safety, wellbeing and welfare

• Lead on staff appraisals and probationary reviews across the Operations Team, ensuring alignment to the Strategic Plan and personal and professional development of the team

Salary: £34,596, Grade 4 (this is pro rata- Actual Salary £20,758)

The charity is now seeking to appoint a Head of Finance who will have oversight of the finance team and will lead on strategic and operational financial management of the charity and preparing and analysing information.

• Experience and understanding of financial processes including budget management, forecasting, day-to-day income and expenditure processes, monthly reporting, and year end audit processes
