Job description

Manchester International Festival (MIF) is the world’s first festival of original, new work and special events, staged every two years. From 2021, as well as producing a biennial festival, we will also run The Factory, a new state of the art building and producing organisation in the heart of Manchester.

The Director of Finance and Resources will be a member of the MIF Executive Team, working with the Executive Director on the development of the Five Year Strategic Business Plan and be the Executive Lead for the Finance and Administration teams, identifying potential operating efficiencies and improvements in reporting, systems and controls.

Responsibilities

− Executive Finance Lead at Board Meetings and Finance & Audit Committee Meetings, preparing relevant papers for these meetings.

− Work with the Director of Organisational Change and Transition to lead/contribute on the finance, legal and regulatory strand for transition into the Factory and identify other change needs.

− Be a significant contributor to the strategic development of the new organisation as it grows to a much larger company, responsible for The Factory, including the staffing model, resourcing and a viable business plan.

− Fulfil the role of Company Secretary and ensure that all relevant reporting and filing obligations are met.

− Represent MIF as Finance Lead at key Factory-related meetings as required.

− Lead the six-monthly reporting on the Five Year Business Plan to Government (in particular Arts Council England) working closely with the Executive Team.

− Work with the Executive Director and the Head of Finance to ensure accurate, timely, relevant and appropriate management reporting and forecasting to help manage the business. 

− Review and ensure effective management of cash balances and cash flow forecasts on a regular basis, recommending investment of cash on long term deposits to maximise income.

− Ensure effective management of cash and foreign exchange risk, in accordance with MIF’s Investment Policy and Foreign Exchange Policy.

− Support the Head of Finance with the ongoing management of key relationships including (but not limited to) audit services, tax advisors and Arts Council England.

− Broader leadership responsibility for the Admin (including IT & HR) ensuring the teams are delivering to the strategic aims of the organisation.

General

− Actively engage with the organisation’s vision and policies regarding equal opportunities and diversity, artistic ambition, participation and engagement, health and safety, evaluation and monitoring

− Training and talent development will be central to the organisation as we approach The Factory. All job roles are expected to engage with our training and development activity, be willing to support our training programmes

− Any other duties that are commensurate with the post
