Job description

We are looking for an ambitious individual who is process-driven and can think creatively. This role will lead on volunteer recruitment, through marketing, and be responsible for the recruitment and onboarding of over 3,000 volunteers a year. Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications, you will manage three marketing administrators to support with all elements of this work.

The successful candidate should be passionate about the work of Action Tutoring, driven to achieve our targets for volunteer tutors and be able to think creatively about how to adapt our marketing and onboarding approaches to generate a sustainable pipeline of volunteers who can progress efficiently through their tutoring journey.

You will need to take initiative and be resilient in the face of challenges and persistent in your approaches. An ability to think strategically and use data to identify priorities and help spot opportunities will also be critical to success in the role. A genuine interest in the charity sector and/or education is vital.

Our charity is at an exciting point in its development as it continues to scale to respond to the negative impact of the pandemic and support disadvantaged pupils who have been impacted. We need to engage as many volunteer tutors as we can to do this. We have also diversified our delivery method to online tutoring, meaning our volunteering opportunities are more accessible and we can engage those who were previously unable to take part.
Comprehensive induction and training will be provided. Action Tutoring is committed to providing development opportunities for its staff, and as a growing charity there are plenty of opportunities to take on new areas of responsibility.

Duties and responsibilities
- Take the strategic lead on driving new applications from potential volunteer tutors, through the charity’s marketing channels (digital and print), ensuring a strong supply of high quality applications to meet growth and targets.
- Oversee the effective application assessment and recruitment of volunteers and monitor the process and criteria to ensure high quality standards are maintained and recruitment targets are met.
- Oversee tutors’ progress through their journey, analysing training attendance to ensure sessions are scheduled at appropriate times and frequencies. Monitor safeguarding checks and coordinate calls for tutors who don’t complete during their training session. Monitor KPIs regularly and make strategic adjustments to the processes to ensure targets are met.
- Coordinate calls to book tutors onto training, allocating to the team.
- Oversee volunteer marketing activities (social media, marketing campaigns, advert maintenance, regional focus) to ensure regular and accurate promotion of Action Tutoring volunteering opportunities through engaging and impactful content across the regions.
- Work with the Director of Marketing and Communications and the Digital Marketing and Recruitment Administrator to develop digital marketing activities to reach wider audiences e.g. paid social media activities, SEO content creation, PPC and Google AdWord management, analysing the impact of these activities.
- Articulate the benefits and value of volunteering with Action Tutoring, developing new marketing materials and digital content to assist this; supporting the profile raising of Action Tutoring wherever possible.
- Maintain accurate records of marketing and recruitment channels; use data to analyse the effectiveness of them, using this information to inform future work.
- Any other duties deemed reasonable by the Chief Executive Officer.

Place of work: London office- The Dock, Tobacco Quay, Wapping Lane, E1W 2SF.
We would consider remote working for this role for the right candidate, but occasional visits to the London office and travel to external events, meetings and Action Tutoring regions would be required.

Contract and working hours: Full-time (37.5 hours per week), permanent contract.

Start date: Ideally mid-November 2021

Person specification
Qualifications criteria:
- Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience in marketing, management and volunteer management.
- Right to work in the UK.

We are seeking applications from individuals who have:
- At least two years experience in a marketing or volunteer management role.
- Outstanding communication and people skills; strong written and numerical skills. Able to create and deliver impactful content to motivate positive responses.
- Ability to think creatively, strategically and analytically to find effective solutions and make beneficial improvements to processes.
- Highly organised, able to multi-task and prioritise and complete all activities to a high standard and high attention to detail; excellent time management skills.
- Experience managing stakeholders (internal and external) and building relationships for professional purposes and to achieve targets.
- Capable of managing multiple processes and tracking performance, using data to indicate areas for improvement. Experience of using systems effectively, such as CRM systems and CMSs, and understanding the importance of data accuracy in this.
- Able to work independently and use initiative in a range of situations to spot new opportunities and remain resilient in the face of challenge.
- Confident managing and analysing data to improve processes.
- High computer literacy; familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and have experience using databases.
- Open to new ideas, able to suggest improvements and takes ownership.
- Adaptable and open to learning. Action Tutoring is a relatively young organisation and is constantly changing.
You will need to be willing to adapt and to grow and develop with the organisation.

DESIRABLE:
- Experience of managing volunteers.
- Experience of digital marketing, including knowledge of PPC, social media management and SEO.
- Line management experience.
