The Head of Property is a crucial and pivotal role at the Diocese, as you will lead the strategic management of the Diocese’s assets, taking responsibility for maximising income and capital returns from assets, including property development on investment land and buildings.

Reporting to the Diocesan Secretary, you will oversee the management of the Diocese’s housing and the Glebe estate. You will ensure good quality clergy accommodation through strategic maintenance and planned enhancements, along with the sale, purchase and development of housing stock and glebe land as required.

Managing the Property Services Team, which oversees the management of all clergy and other housing within the Diocese, you will ensure maintenance and improvements are performed within agreed timeframes and budgets and provide an excellent and friendly service to clergy and their household. In addition, you will ensure maximised rental income from vacant housing and glebe land which is a key income stream for the Diocese.

As Head of Property, you will offer support to parishes and protect their interests by advising on decision making regarding their buildings, with a particular focus on enhancing utilisation and value, especially for church halls. You will also represent, protect and advance the interests of PCCs, Incumbents and Churchwardens, by partnering with them to provide high-level advice to parishes on the effective management of property matters, particularly in cases where the Diocese acts as custodian trustee on their behalf.

As a key member of the Diocesan Office and Senior Management Team (SMT), Diocesan Finance & Assets Committee, Diocesan Advisory Committee and Property Advisory Group, you will manage the property budget, taking part in budget reviews and budget setting in partnership with the Director of Finance and Finance & Assets Committee.

Professionally qualified with a relevant qualification and with significant demonstrable post qualification experience in a similar role, perhaps as a surveyor, you should have proven leadership experience with a focus on strategic property development and resource planning.

With experience of working in the property sector, ideally in asset management, residential property management and landlord and tenant relations, you should have a track record of driving maximum return from property and/or land assets, including experience of property disposals and purchases. Able to maximise  income, you should also be adept at planning, managing and reviewing substantial budgets and exercising strict financial controls in a property environment.

Sympathetic to the overall Christian mission of the Church of England, including the Diocese’s schools, church communities and buildings, you should be prepared and able to travel regularly throughout the Diocese.

Previous experience with Charities or Not-for-Profit organisations is desirable but not essential.

The Housing and Land assets of the Diocese of Canterbury comprises operational and investment properties, almost all of which consist of ministry housing stock and a small amount of Glebe Land. Assets include circa 170 parsonage houses, the majority of which are occupied by clergy, establishing a unique relationship between the Diocese and church leaders. A minority of the stock (around 50 properties) which are intended for ministry but not currently used, generate substantial rental income. Notably, recent years have seen the move to ensure that we have the right properties in the right places for ministry as well as exploring development opportunities on existing properties that are due to be reviewed, sold or replaced.

This role will support and inspire an ambitious and high performing team to build propositions, proposals and pipelines in order to unlock opportunities to engage the charity’s supporters and untap networks across the charity, securing vital funds to underpin their strategic programmes and ambitions for people with Parkinson’s. The post-holder will inspire supporters to give their biggest donation and ensure that the organisation is giving its supporters the best experience possible, delivering an annual income target of £6m+. The role will also play a pivotal part in driving a new multi-year, multi-million pound charity appeal.

Maximising the value and contribution of supporters is fundamental to Parkinson’s UK; building networks, understanding what motivates their supporters, and aligning programmes to their charitable interests is key to the charity’s growth plans for Major Gifts. This role will be critical to leading the philanthropy, trust and statutory, special events and prospect research and insights teams (approximately 18 people) and working with colleagues and leaders across the charity to identify prospects and opportunities to give at a transformational level. The post will also be an active member of the Fundraising Leadership Team.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in major gifts fundraising and a proven track record of securing large gifts. They will also have experience of managing a large annual income target and driving continued growth and ensuring targets are met. They will have the ability to lead, motivate and inspire multiple teams to coordinate projects and exceed fundraising targets. Strong presentation skills and budgetary skills will be combined with the ability to build positive and high-value relationships across a range of sectors, individuals, organisations and committees. Finally, they will be solutions focused with the ability to work well under pressure.

Unlocked Graduates exists to break cycles of reoffending, with particular focus on breaking the link between disadvantage and reoffending. Currently prison is not a place which successfully does this: the average prisoner has 16 previous convictions and 48 percent of prisoners reoffend within a year of release. Responsibilities include:

Leadership, Strategy and Governance

• Be an active member of the Made in Hackney Senior Leadership Team, working together to galvanise the organisation behind the strategic plan

• Contribute to strategic discussions on the future path of the organisation; providing oversight on key initiatives as required as a member of the Senior Leadership Team.

• Proactively participate in and/or lead team meetings to ensure effective communication and mutual support

• Provide lead support to the Board of Trustees, assisting the Chair with trustee meetings, keeping the Charity Commission website updated, and assisting with trustee recruitment, induction and training, board reviews etc;

• Act as the lead staff team representative on the Resource & Remuneration board sub-committee

HR & Training 

• Lead the organisation’s HR function ensuring  employment practice is legally compliant and fair, with a focus on being a fully inclusive employer;

• Keep abreast of the latest guidance in employment law and HR legislation, acting as the lead liaison with Croner external HR support;

• Act as MIH’s Lead for:
  Safeguarding - conducting regular reviews of safeguarding policy,  procedures and regular training for staff, trustees and volunteers and completing; 
  Data Protection - ensuring Data Protection Policy review and organisation-wide compliance and responding to any data incidents or breaches;
  Training - overseeing staff/volunteer/trustee training and lead on implementing staff wellbeing initiatives eg. socials, team building days etc;

• Oversee monthly staff salary payment and coordinate with external payroll provider; 

• Responsible for regular organisation-wide policy, procedure and risk assessment reviews

• Oversee any organisational structure reviews and ensure a system is in place for staff to receive regular and motivational feedback, and feel supported and able to perform their role;

Salesforce Admin
To be the main point of contact for core users' technical support and training needs, and to develop the Salesforce platform to improve organisational efficiency, relationship management and income generation. Intensive training will be provided to support this role.

• Act as the system administrator and manage admin functions including assigning new users, creating reports, dashboards, surveys, application forms etc;

• Onboard and train new users, and grow the level of expertise among the core team;

• Implement custom features when new work streams/programmes are set up and as organisational needs grow;

• Oversee support partnerships with external technical support and training providers.

• Support the Head of Fundraising & Communications and Community Programmes Manager with the creation of reports and dashboards in salesforce to present programme outcomes for funder and trustee reports and the MIH Annual Report;

• App Integration – use apps such as Mailchimp and 123 Form Builder (survey software) and integrate with Salesforce

Venue Management 
MIH has a part-time Venue Manager who is responsible for the general upkeep and maintenance of the ‘Liberty Hall’ kitchen venue. The Head of Operations  will oversee them and support key areas of venue management in the following ways:

• Manage relationship with venue partner ‘Clapton Commons’ to ensure key services of venue are running smoothly and represent MIH in oversight committee meetings; 

• Ensure venue and office equipment is safe to use and repaired/replaced/PAT tested on time;

• Ensure the venue meets the latest Health & Safety requirements, Fire Safety Standards and is fully accessible;

• Support acquisition of new kitchen equipment when required, such as ovens, hobs etc either from a donated source or purchased from a supplier;

Finance

• Organise quarterly budget meetings between the core delivery team and Finance Manager to review budget and expenditure; 

• Ensure the finance team understands the requirements and deadlines of board meetings and provide reminders to them for preparing the required financial reporting.

Line Management

• Line management responsibility for 3 direct reports, creating a supportive environment for growth and development

About TASO

The Centre for Transforming Access and Student Outcomes in Higher Education (TASO) is an affiliate What Works Centre, and part of the UK Government’s What Works Movement. Our vision is to eliminate equality gaps in higher education (HE). Our mission is to improve lives through evidence-informed practice.

TASO was set up in 2019 and became an independent charity in April 2021. Our work focuses on the generation, synthesis and dissemination of high-quality evidence about effective practice in widening participation and student outcomes. We primarily focus on developing and disseminating causal evidence. 

The Role

The Head of Communications and Engagement will lead TASO’s communications and engagement work plan to raise the profile of the organisation. They will also lead on TASO’s evidence mobilisation work plan, working with the Chief Executive, to ensure TASO’s research and evaluation outputs are effectively disseminated. 

This will involve ensuring a strategic approach to all communications activities, leading on the delivery of external-facing materials and publications, overseeing a vibrant social media presence and events programme. The role will have overall responsibility for a website redevelopment project over the next year. 

• Ensure a strategic and effective approach to communications, dissemination and stakeholder engagement.

• Lead on the design, branding and dissemination of innovative and engaging communications – both print and online, including oversight of the editorial and publication process for all TASO research reports and resources. 

• Lead on TASO’s evidence mobilisation plan, working with the Chief Executive and Research and Evaluation Team to ensure research outputs are effectively disseminated and achieve impact.

• Support the Chief Executive on delivering TASO’s policy aims. Lead on engagement with and monitoring of Westminster activities (e.g. select committees, reports, consultations) and liaise with key communications and policy stakeholders in the Department for Education, Office for Students and other relevant bodies.

• Take overall responsibility for TASO’s online and social media presence. This will involve overseeing a critical website redevelopment project over the next year and also includes oversight of the creation, upkeep and management of digital channels and content.

• Lead on TASO’s media relations, producing high quality press releases and news stories for the website, liaising with journalists, as appropriate.

• Lead on the delivery of a programme of stakeholder engagement events for a wide range of audiences. The events will range from small training sessions to larger events including publication launches and an annual conference.

• Provide line management for communications staff who will support all activities – including two direct reports and overseeing a team of three. 

• Undertake projects and duties as required or requested by the Chief Executive or broader team.
