The National Lottery Community Fund is seeking a Strategic Communication Lead, Wales to drive forward our ambitious communications transformation. This newly created role sits at the heart of our restructured communications function, designed to deliver our strategy "It Starts with Community" and shift our focus to demonstrating the powerful impact communities have across the UK. It is essential that you are a Welsh-speaker.

As we build a new, integrated approach to communications across the UK, this position offers an exceptional opportunity to shape how we tell our story. Playing a strategic leadership role, you will be the vital bridge between our grant makers and communicators, working in a matrix manner with the senior leadership team in your country and our wider communications team to solve problems and generate successful communications and engagement campaigns.

You will provide strategic leadership on communications and external affairs, working across two areas of responsibility: a specific country within the UK and one of our four missions. Your ability to create powerful alignment between these areas will be essential to success.

Your deep understanding of the devolved context and stakeholder landscape will help build the Fund's influence with regional decision-makers and opinion formers while advancing UK-wide objectives. You will also be an ambassador for the Fund's work, maintaining a strong network in your country.

We are looking for an experienced communications strategist with extensive knowledge of the local political, media and stakeholder landscape. You should bring a sophisticated understanding of how communications can drive organizational objectives and a proven track record of leading integrated campaigns. Your background might include senior communications roles in government, the VCSE sector, or complex organizations operating across devolved administrations, where you've demonstrated ability to navigate diverse stakeholder environments and translate strategic goals into impactful communications activity.

Key responsibilities

• Lead strategic communications for one Funding portfolio and one mission area, ensuring integration with business planning
• Build and lead matrix teams to deliver integrated communications campaigns
• Develop and implement communications plans that drive engagement with key stakeholders
• Provide senior counsel on reputation management and crisis response
• Act as senior regional point of contact for communications and external affairs
• Ensure consistent messaging across all customer journey touchpoints
• Represent the Fund with key external stakeholders and opinion formers

Location: You will be expected to be based in the country you will be supporting. We have a hybrid approach to working with work pattern and exact location agreed with the successful candidate. Our offices are in Belfast, Birmingham, Cardiff, Exeter, Leeds, London, Manchester, Newcastle and Newtown.

The Role

The Active Together Programme is designed to prepare people with cancer for, and recover from, treatment quickly and to assist them to maintain healthy lifestyles after their cancer diagnosis. Further, the research evidence shows that exercise, part of the Active Together Service, can improve survival and quality of life of cancer patients.

The charity will be delivering the Active Together programme through our new Yorkshire Cancer Research Centre at Hornbeam Park, Harrogate. The service is open to patients in Yorkshire. 

Reporting to the Head of Active Together, as Lead Fitness Instructor, you will be responsible for establishing and delivering the physical activity component of the Active Together programme; training and managing a team of  Fitness Instructors who deliver the Active Together service; supporting and advising on a range of fitness activities / services to develop and deliver a rehabilitation service for adults with a cancer diagnosis; working collaboratively to deliver a multidisciplinary, inclusive and responsive service, ensuring customer service excellence and responding to service user diversity.

Specifically, you will:

Service delivery and operations

• Lead a team to deliver the Active Together service in the charity’s first bespoke cancer centre in Harrogate.
•  Manage and train the Fitness Instructors delivering the Active Together, Harrogate service.
• Implement evidenced based updates to the Active Together Service as provided by the AWRC to ensure the Active Together Programme is implemented correctly ensuring treatment fidelity and to ensure evaluation data is collected.
• Ensure the Active Together service provides advice, guidance and support to adult service users affected by cancer, adhering to service standards; providing high quality care and support.
• Ensure the services can cater to service users who may have difficulties relating to the complex emotional, psychological and physical aspects of their cancer diagnosis.
• Prepare for and confidently conduct initial appointments / assessments with new members and support the Fitness Instructors to independently deliver initial appointments/assessments.
• Create, evaluate and reassess individualised and group exercise plans to formulate a specialised programme of care for service users.
• Deliver group, and individual, exercise sessions as part of the Active Together Service.
• Provide in-depth guidance and support for a diverse range of queries; maintain confidentiality and treat sensitive issues with appropriate tact and diplomacy.
• Support or lead, where appropriate, specific projects/schemes/areas of work and evaluate the impact and effectiveness.

Communications

•  Assist with communications and the promotion of activities/services following an established set of protocols and principles, in collaboration with other areas delivering the Active Together programme as required.
• Support the development of online and public-facing resources and proactively ensure information is kept up to date and accurate e.g. social media channels, designated websites.

Key working relationships

•  Lead the team of Fitness Instructors by supporting them to develop their skills and knowledge.
• Allocate work and deploy resources to ensure they effectively manage their caseload of Active Together members ensuring staff work within relevant framework and to agreed service standards.

About You

To be considered for this role, you will need:

• To have a CIMPSA endorsed Level 4 qualification in Cancer and Exercise Rehabilitation.
• To have evidence of continued professional development relevant to the role purpose and level.
• To have experience of operating as a Lead Fitness Instructor.
• To have experience of confidently and professionally delivering safe and effective exercise classes and individual exercise programmes to people living with cancer.
• To have experience of carrying out risk assessments, exercise assessments and contributing to ongoing evaluation of services. prescribing personalised exercise programmes.
• To have in-depth knowledge of the benefits of exercise rehabilitation for people living with long term conditions including people living with cancer.
• To have outstanding customer service manner and customer service skills.
• To have excellent communication and interpersonal skills for delivering a service and working directly with Active Together members. 
• To be proficient at using Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel with the ability to input and interpret data, to ensure reliable analysis and informed decision making.
•  To have the ability and willingness to regularly travel across the Yorkshire region.
• To have flexibility to deliver weekend and evening classes as required.

Job Purpose:

To provide operational management of the Substance Misuse Through-the-Gate (SMTTG) programme, which supports Lambeth and Southwark women in custody and their transition back into the community. The Coordinator will play a key role in ensuring the service is delivered to a high standard by line managing staff, developing strong partnerships with prisons and recovery services, and fostering a culture of quality, learning, and accountability.

The post holder will also hold a caseload, working directly with women in custody to support them into community services. They will provide robust Through-the-Gate (TTG) support on release and continue to work with women in the community for up to six months to ensure a smooth transition and sustainable recovery.

Key Responsibility Areas:

1. Lead the operational management of the Substance Misuse TTG programme, ensuring high-quality, trauma-responsive support for women impacted by the criminal justice system
2. Manage and develop staff to foster a strong, inclusive, and reflective team culture
3. Deliver direct support to women, ensuring a trauma-informed and person-centred approach
4. Develop effective relationships with key stakeholders in prisons and the community to strengthen partnerships and share expertise

Job Title: Arts and Learning Strategic Lead

Location: Based at our head office in Islington, London (10 minute walk from Highbury and Islington station) with cross working in various prisons across England, Community sites, and home working

Salary: £47,000 (Full time equivalent)

Shift Pattern: 22.5 hours per week Monday to Friday between 09:00 - 17:00 with some flexibility. You may be required to work outside these hours as per service requirements.

About the role

This is a brand new role, supporting the Head of Safe Ground with the strategic oversight and delivery of our programmes. Safe Ground has been at the forefront of designing and delivering innovative arts-based, therapeutically informed interventions within the criminal justice system and in communities across the UK. As we approach our 30th anniversary this year, we remain dedicated to challenging systematic injustice through the programmes we run and the partnerships we build. This role is a great opportunity to be part of our transformative goals, in being part of creating systematic change.

Using theatre arts, and culture, we design initiatives to support those impacted by the criminal justice system in gaining deeper insights into themselves, their relationships and their behaviours. We do this by equipping our participants with practical tools and building a community who are open to doing things differently. In this role, you will develop best practice around creative interventions, building powerful partnerships with commissioners, partners, and other key stakeholders, ensuring our programmes are being delivered to the highest standards. You will lead on the development of new and existing arts-based work, identifying gaps and opportunities for growth within the sector.

• Oversee the development of new creative ideas and programmes as well as programme adaptations and redesigns. Ideas could be linked to theatre productions in and out of custodial settings, short films, live events, symposiums, but may also include new art forms and working with new artists
• Development of a local / national facilitator network
• Create and deliver engaging high-quality programmes which support rehabilitation and reintegration for participants
• Design and deliver innovation arts-based high quality training and quality assurance support to management and delivery teams across the SIG network - focusing specifically on relationships, culture and communication, conflict resolution, storytelling, power-sharing and co-production
• Lead on the development of creative ideas for Safe Grounds 30th anniversary, including; relationship building and partnership development, advocacy and networking, idea development - radio / stage / film etc
• Provide high quality peer-mentoring spaces, leadership, and line management to staff, offering guidance, support, and advice to the team to support them to perform to the best of their abilities. Facilitate the team in identifying solutions to challenges presented in relation to all elements of service delivery
• Proactively embed a culture of learning, development, reflection, and evaluation in a psychologically informed environment

About you

We are looking for someone who is ambitious and passionate about supporting people who have experienced multiple disadvantages and social exclusion. You will have proven experience in arts development and strategic support, with an extensive understanding of the criminal justice system and the role in which arts-based interventions play. You will be creative, empowering, and be a dedicated lead in supporting our strategic growth. You will understand arts-based interventions and methodologies, and have experience in developing and delivering creative programmes and productions.

• Previous experience in working and engaging with people of complex backgrounds, ex-offenders, mental health, substance misuse, challenging behaviours
• Previous experience in developing, producing, and/or performing professional productions for example film, television, or theatre productions
• Proven experience in designing innovative arts-based programmes and extensive experience of facilitation of programmes and/or training for various groups
• A theoretical understanding of co-production models and practical application of building them and embedding them into best practice
• Previous experience and/or ability to people manage and develop a team
• Ability to create, develop, and deliver new programmes and/or creative content in various settings such as prisons, communities, and wider criminal justice settings
• Excellent interpersonal skills, both written and oral. Ability to form and build effective relationships and rapport with others
• Proactive in making decisions to deal with challenges and providing a solution focused approach using initiative

Careers4Change is delighted to be supporting The Social Change Nest in their search for a Senior Development Manager (mat leave cover).

Role Purpose:

The Social Change Nest is going through a very exciting growth period and since our Head of Development is going on maternity leave for 4 months from September we are looking for somebody who can join our growing team as soon as possible. The Senior Development Manager will contribute to our FY25/26 income targets and cover part of the functions of the Head of Development while she’s on leave. The Head of Development manages the Development team, which covers the business development, marketing and communications functions, and works with the CEO to ensure that the organisation grows in a strategic and balanced way.

The Social Change Nest is onboarding and supporting hundreds of new groups every year and we are working closely with funders across the UK and worldwide, helping them move large amounts of funding to unincorporated movements at the frontlines of social change. We are spending more time than ever raising awareness on how capital flows impact the ability of communities to create change, and how we can hack the system to enable more money to flow in an equitable way to unincorporated movements.

We are looking for somebody who is excited about all this and ready to hit the ground running. We are in the middle of a large capital raise, so we would like the ideal candidate to join the team as soon as possible to work closely with the Head of Development and the CEO, as well as the rest of the Development team, for 3 months, before the Head of Development goes on maternity leave. The Senior Development Manager will then take over part of the team support responsibilities of the Head of Development and share responsibility for the income targets with the CEO for the months that the Head of Development is on leave.

About the Social Change Nest

At the Social Change Nest (SCN), we’re radically transforming the funding landscape and strengthening civil society. We remove the financial and administrative barriers – like bank accounts and legal structures – that often prevent communities, grassroots groups and informal movements from accessing funding and focusing on their core mission. We also work closely with funders, providing Grant Distribution and Fund Management services, enabling them to support social action with confidence and transparency.

Key Responsibilities:

 June/July to Aug 

• Work closely with the Head of Development to deliver our Development strategy for the financial year FY25/26:

September to December

• Continue carrying out the responsibilities outlined above, more independently without the Head of Development:

  • Identify new development opportunities in line with the targets for the financial year, ensuring our pipeline stays healthy.
  • Be an ambassador for the Social Change Nest, representing the business at industry conferences, events and workshops and grow strategic partnerships.
• Step in to support the team strategically where required:
  • Oversee and contribute to external communications and marketing campaigns.
  • Support and line manage members of the Development team, as required, in the Head of Development’s absence. The team of 4 works across business development, communications and marketing.

January and February

Ensure a smooth transition and handover of relationships as the Head of Development comes back into post after maternity leave.

The Role

Reporting to our Head of Development, the post holder will be responsible for creating relevant fundraising material and developing fundraising activities, whilst building and accessing a network of Corporate Champions and monitoring performance against the income generation strategy.

You will be responsible for managing and mentoring the Corporate Partnerships and Fundraising Account Executive and together will implement a corporate  stewardship plan that will create meaningful engagement and opportunities for corporate giving and fundraising.

We’re looking for someone with experience of working in corporate or community fundraising, individual giving and/ or events management, who knows how to build and sustain strong relationships with external stakeholders to deliver objectives. 

You’ll also be comfortable delivering compelling partnership proposals and presentations tailored to corporate audiences, and will represent LionHeart at a variety of RICS, partner firm or fundraiser events and other networking opportunities.
