TREASURER / TRUSTEE
Age UK Gloucestershire’s vision is to make our county the best place in the UK in which to grow older.
We are seeking a new Treasurer to join our board of trustees /directors and help us achieve our vision.
We are a small, independent Charity based in Gloucestershire with the aims to challenge negative stereotypes of ageing, create positive age-friendly communities, help older people retain a sense of purpose, and offer help and support to older people and their families.
Overview of the role:
The Treasurer supports the Board with maintaining an overview of the charity’s financial affairs, as well as fulfilling the role of a Trustee/Board Director. The Treasurer assists the Chair and the CEO in ensuring that the board of trustees fulfils its duties and responsibilities for the proper financial governance of the charity; by ensuing effective and appropriate financial measures, controls and procedures are in place, reporting to the Board at regular intervals about the financial health of the Charity.
In addition to the above, the Treasurer will also have the responsibilities and qualities of all trustees.
This is a voluntary position, but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed. Our trustees service for a 3-year term of office with the potential for re-appointment for a further term to a maximum of 6 years.
What we are looking for
We are looking for people willing to bring energy, enthusiasm, and commitment to the role, and who will broaden the diversity of thinking on our board.
· A finance professional. A knowledge of charity finance is an advantage. Otherwise, an enthusiasm to learn, drawing from sound commercial experience and an understanding of SMEs.
· A strategical thinker with an ability to balance risk and opportunity.
· Clear communicator with the ability to bring the financial information alive to non-finance specialists.
· Willing to play an active role in areas such as forecasting, setting budgets, liaising with auditors.
· Commitment to striving for better for older people across Gloucestershire.
You’ll need to be able to commit to attending six board meetings a year, as well as the potential for some further working group. In return we can offer training, a chance for someone who is maybe looking for their first board experience to get involved, and a supportive environment for anyone who wishes to join us.

Are you a people person? Help bring coastal wildlife to people who don’t know about Earnse Bay rockpools, or the people who aren’t able visit the beach.
Becoming a rockpool roadie, is a unique opportunity to learn new conservation and people skills. Help Cumbria Wildlife Trust bring wildlife to more people, and more people to wildlife.
We’re looking for volunteers to shadow friendly members of staff to:
-visit the rockpools at Earnse Bay, collect rockpool creatures and take them to places like care homes for people to enjoy.
-engage with organisations such as care home residents, providing information on Earnse Bay’s coastal wildlife and promoting the work of the Cumbria Wildlife Trust in general.
-allow people to engage with rockpool creatures. The aim is for people to ‘connect’ with the creatures and one another, increasing peoples’ mutual happiness, health and sense of nature.
-after their day out, all rockpool creatures will then need to be put safely back onto the beach.
There will be training days taking place on:
- Saturday 29 June, 10 am to 4 pm at Earnse Bay, Barrow.
Please note that a DBS (paid for by Cumbria Wildlife Trust) will be required.

About Sense Touchbase Pears
Sense TouchBase Pears is a welcoming, accessible environment where everyone can feel connected, included and part of the community. We combine health and social care services with arts, sports and wellbeing activities. And support disabled people to access employment, education, volunteering, and training opportunities.
As an activity volunteer, you will be helping to set up, supervise and interact in some fun activities at the centre from ‘Messy Play’ and ‘Stay and Play’ to craft sessions and supporting with events. This exciting and fast-paced role is a rewarding way to give back to your local community, by helping us to provide affordable and inclusive activities in the area. Please note that at this time we are looking for volunteers aged 18+ due to the busy nature of the role.
Key Duties
As an activity volunteer, you will be an ambassador for TouchBase Pears, and for Sense, as well as being a vital part of the Facilities Team. You will help provide a warm welcome to everyone who comes into the building and help us with our fun and engaging activities.
- Supporting the TouchBase Pears team, working work together to deliver an outstanding experience for every person’s visit.
- Setting up and clearing away activities, including ‘messy play’ and ‘stay and play’
- Supporting with the supervision of activities
- Encouraging participation by interacting with the public
- Helping keep our visitors safe when taking part in the activities
- Adhering to our Health & Safety procedures
- You will be always supported on site during volunteering and a facilities coordinator will be available if you need any support or have any questions. For the weekly role which will be for our Stay and Play, you will eventually be leading the activity without supervision within the room, but a facilities coordinator will always be on site if you need them.
A standard / enhanced Disclosure & Barring check will be required for this volunteer role, which we will support you with.

At our hospices, we aim to provide the best possible service to those requiring end of life care. About ESRA
We help people in East Sussex to live free from addiction and follow an abstinence base programme. Our recovery hub is run by staff with lived experience and volunteers, most of who are in recovery themselves. We provide a range of health and well-being services that are inclusive, accessible, and responsive to the needs of local people in recovery.
The Chair will play a key role in the strategic direction of ESRA and support the Board with their leadership skills.
What will you be doing?
The Chair will hold the Board and Senior Management Team to account for ESRA’s mission and vision, providing inclusive leadership to the Board of Trustees, ensuring that each Trustee fulfils their duties and responsibilities for the effective governance of the charity.
The Chair will also support the CEO and ensure that the Board functions as a unit and works closely to achieve agreed objectives.

Who we are.
Age UK Kensington & Chelsea (£3.1 million) is a community-based charity working in the heart of Kensington and Chelsea to ensure that older people’s voices are heard, their needs are met, and their independence is supported.
We are a team of 95 staff who provide a wide range of services including advice and information, and a variety of activities which improves well-being and addresses the issues of loneliness and isolation among older people. Our services range from informal social and leisure activities through to more practical assistance, social prescribing and in light of the pandemic, delivering large-scale humanitarian response from the first day of lockdown in 2020. We are part of the fabric of Kensington and Chelsea – a diverse and vibrant borough with a need and demand for more services and innovation for older people.
Prior to the pandemic, we introduced in partnership with the NHS, My Care, My Way, which has continued to grow from strength to strength with over 40 health and social care prescribing coordinators working with over 7,000 patients to provide support to reduce hospital admissions and promote independence. Every NHS-registered GP practice in Kensington and Chelsea is now signed up to My Care, My Way.
More people are living longer lives and as an organisation, we need to be fit for the years to come and ready to deliver the services our older people tell us they need. We are developing innovative new offers such as our recent pilot to deliver an evidence-based long-term supportive intervention for people living with dementia and exploring how exciting developments in technology can best support people as they age. We are also concerned about the impact of the cost of living crisis on our older people and how we can support them.
About the role.
It is an exciting time to join our Board as we are executing our current strategy and next year will be creating our next strategic plan. We appointed a number of new Trustees to the Board over the last number of years and we are now looking to grow our Board in terms of skill sets. We are looking for a mix of people, people who have been Trustees before and those who are new to the role.
In particular, we are looking to appoint:
- A finance professional, we have appointed a new Finance Director, and we are looking for a new Trustee with finance expertise who can join our Treasurer on the Finance Committee. This person could come from a variety of sectors with experience in accountancy, financial strategy, audit and risk.
- A professional with experience of working with older people and/or health or social care. It could be someone who has delivered services in the NHS, private or charitable sectors. We would welcome anyone with experience of dementia.
- In addition to this, we are looking for a professional with expertise and/or an understanding of fundraising; this could be in philanthropy, development, major donors, and/or events.
We are open to other skill sets and experiences as we look to grow and develop our Board. In particular, we are keen to attract those with a background in HR/people management for our HR Committee.

We are a values-driven charity and older people are at the heart of everything we do in our community, so we are looking for someone who is committed and dedicated to supporting older people and is passionate about our Borough.
We would welcome our new Trustees throughout the year to attend our events and services for our older people, such as walking football or events such as our Valentine’s celebration which attracts over 400 older people.
Time commitment
The board meets 4 times a year in the evening for approximately three hours (twice online and twice in-person). We have 3 Board Sub-Committees, the Finance & Risk Committee, Quality, Performance & Development and HR, these meet 2 – 4 times each year for about 2 hours. Committee meetings are usually held online.
We hold an annual AGM and also meet annually for a board development/strategy review day and other ad hoc events throughout the year.
We expect the time commitment for our Trustees including reading board papers, attendance at events, ad hoc conversations with staff and Board Members to be up to a day a month on average.
