The GROW Traineeship gives people with lived experience of homelessness and/or other related disadvantages (including but not limited to; contact with the criminal justice system, mental ill-health or substance use) access to paid employment, training and personal development opportunities. The traineeship lasts for up to 12 months, and each GROW receives personalised training and support to help remove some of the barriers that may have prevented them gaining meaningful employment.

We are looking for people who are passionate about using their own experiences to help make change for people experiencing bad housing and homelessness.

About the role

Working in a team of seven, you will be part of the research function at Shelter, finding data and evidence to support Shelter’s fundraising, media, services, campaigning and brand work.

As well as researching the benefits of social homes, we also do research on the scale of the housing emergency, including homelessness, and who is most affected.

The Research team is part of Shelter’s Activism & Advocacy division. This means you may work with our Public Affairs, Digital Campaigns, Community Organising and Policy teams too.

The GROW trainee programme includes opportunities to get involved in Shelter at a national level, using your experiences to influence our work as a whole.

About you

You’ll be a team player who is flexible, open to learning, and willing to ask for support when needed. You’ll have basic IT skills, such as using email and searching the internet, and be able to stay organised and manage your time well. You’ll also be proactive, curious, and interested in learning more about housing and the issues people face. Importantly, you’ll have lived experience of homelessness or other disadvantages – such as substance use, or involvement with the criminal justice system – and you’ll want to use your experience to make a positive difference. You may also be facing challenges to employment, such as limited qualifications, a lack of experience, or long-term unemployment. A strong belief in equality and a commitment to tackling discrimination are essential.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work on World Cancer Research Fund International’s Global Cancer Update Programme (CUP Global). CUP Global (previously known as CUP) is a unique, long-standing, and rigorous research programme that systematically gathers, analyses, and judges the strength of the global evidence on how diet, nutrition, physical activity and body weight affect cancer risk and survival. This work led to the publication of the authoritative Third Expert Report in 2018, which now needs updating in places to remain relevant and impactful. 

As Senior Research Interpretation Officer, you will be a valuable member of the Research Interpretation team and the CUP Global scientific Secretariat. Your core work will be supporting the management of CUP Global on a day-to-day basis to help deliver its main objective of updating the Third Expert Report. You will provide scientific input, administrative support, and help coordinate specific work areas of CUP Global.

We are looking to recruit someone who has a Masters degree in public health sciences, particularly nutrition and/or cancer research, and with a good understanding of epidemiological concepts. Specialist Support Workers within Look Ahead are required to have either an extra dimension of experience or a higher qualification level as determined relevant for the particular post. Specialist Support Workers provide information, social inclusion and vocational opportunities to support people to recover and stay well; exercise choice and control in their care and lives; and participate on an equal footing in the community. Support is also provided to develop a model of self-advocacy, self-management and empowerment, incorporating the principles and practice of recovery, co-production and peer support.

Oaklands & St Kilda is a pair of 6 unit supported accommodation mental health rehab services working with young people between the ages of 18-25 who may have experienced a mental health related hospital admission to gain and develop skills for future independent living. The service will support individuals transitioning from Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services to Adult services.

This role is set for 9-month, ending on 12 January 2026, with the possibility of extension.

The Specialist Support Worker role involves early shifts (8:00-16:00) and late shifts (14:00-22:00) throughout the week, including some weekends each month.

What you'll bring:

Essential:

Up to NVQ Level 2/3 or equivalent or experience supporting young people or people experiencing mental health challenges.

Specialist knowledge relevant to supporting young people with a Mental Health diagnosis.

Desirable:

Experience of working in a complex mental health environment

Demonstrable experience of trauma-informed practice

The role

We’re seeking a Research Officer to join our fantastic Research team following an internal promotion within the team.

• You will be ensuring that the management of funding rounds is robust, coordinated, and delivered to the highest possible quality, and that the funding rounds we offer address key needs of the research and patient community.
• You will be responsible for managing key stakeholders in the grant funding process, including applicants, award holders and committee members to organise key events.
• You will be liaising with researchers and people with lived experience of pancreatic cancer to coordinate meaningful internal and external public and patient involvement (PPI) through our Research Involvement Network.

About You 

• You will need sound knowledge of research principles and the UK research funding environment.
• Experience of working in a scientific or clinical research context with an undergraduate degree, preferably with a biomedical focus.
• An understanding of patient and public involvement and how to converse with people affected by pancreatic cancer.
• An ability to build relationships and coordinate working with many large and diverse specialist stakeholder groups.

As Community Engagement Officer, you’ll be at the heart of delivering positive change through the PlayZones Programme, helping to increase physical activity among priority groups: individuals from low socio-economic backgrounds, women and girls, disabled people and those with long-term health conditions, and culturally diverse communities. 

You’ll manage a portfolio of PlayZones projects, working closely with our Delivery Managers to ensure each project is shaped by meaningful community input, and leading the development and implementation of community engagement plans.

What can we offer you? 

The salary band for this role is £32,000-34,000 per annum, dependent on relevant skills and experience. 

You will start with 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays (which increases after 2 years), plus additional time off to volunteer.
