Job Title: Dual Diagnosis Worker

Salary: £29,000 

Location and Travel: The role is based in East Croydon, accessible by Train and Tram Link. Any travel required outside your home location for work-related purposes can be expensed.  

Shift Pattern: 12 months Fixed Term Contract - Full time: 37.5 hours per week. Hours to be discussed, you will be based in service. 

About the role

We are seeking a Dual Diagnosis Worker who has a specialism in complex mental health and substance misuse to join our team in Croydon. This is a residential service which provides specialist mental health, complex needs, and dual diagnosis support to our residents. You will utilise your previous experience and knowledge, and provide specialist support to those who have been diagnosed with mental ill health and have challenges with substance use. You will deliver evidence-based interventions based on holistic assessments to support personalised recovery, integration, and promotion of independent living skills.

Within this role, you will act as a specialist for comorbidity, supporting the team to achieve positive outcomes for our residents. Some of the duties may include:

• Undertake joint holistic assessments, risk assessments, care plans, and interventions to support harm reduction and minimisation.
• Set up realistic and flexible strengths-based support plans, working closely with colleagues and support teams to support and advise on interventions and approaches to meet individual needs.
• Help reduce episodes of crisis and assist residents/participants to access services which can offer alternatives to crisis support.
• Work closely with support staff and clinical teams to support and advise them on interventions and approaches to meet resident/participant comorbid, complex mental health and substance misuse needs.
• Support multi-disciplinary teams and the wider community teams with support, advice, signposting, and move on care planning. 

About you

We’re looking for someone who has specialist knowledge on how to support individuals with comorbid and complex needs, with previous experience in a similar role. We look at individual characteristics to be able to show resilience, solve challenges, and be proactive in your approach. You will have a passion for supporting people to achieve their personal goals, and achieve positive outcomes, this includes having the ability to engage with people who may be hard to reach and engage with. We further are looking for someone who has:

• An appropriate qualification which is relevant to the role which could include: National Diploma, Bachelors, or master’s in psychology, Dual Diagnosis, Substance Misuse or any relevant
• Previous experience in a similar role, providing holistic assessments and support for people experiencing mental health challenges
• Applied knowledge of the principles of risk assessment and risk management, particularly in relation to harm minimisation.
• A commitment to promoting recovery, harm reduction, and active involvement in care planning.
• Ability to apply relapse prevention models to promote sustained recovery and harm reduction.

About the role

In this exciting role, you will be a critical member of our influencing team, helping to bring the voice of people living with arthritis right into the heart of Westminster. Working with the Public Affairs team, you will help to deliver the charity’s public affairs activities, building a strong profile with decision-makers to ensure our messages and policy priorities are front and centre of their thoughts.

You will support the delivery of exciting and engaging influencing strategies, working with colleagues to combine policy, public affairs, campaigning, media and social media in order to influence policy change.  You will also play a key role in organising and delivering the charity’s activities at Parliamentary events and political party conferences.

• Strong communicator to help build external relationships with politicians, civil servants and other decision-makers, coupled with good understanding of the Westminster Parliamentary process, UK Government and the wider influencing environment to produce engaging materials and organise events.

The Head of Social Policy leads the development of our thinking across public service reform, social security and housing.  This role develops - and is responsible for the effective delivery of a NEF-wide social policy strategy and of projects that are delivering on this strategy.  The Head of Social Policy acts as a key spokesperson for NEF and promotes our work at a local, regional and national level.

As NEF has a particular strategic focus on transforming the way policy is made so that it better reflects the lived experience of the people, communities and movements that most need change, we look to heads across our different themes to help develop and test new approaches to policy and advocacy.

The Head of Social Policy generates project ideas, oversees the development of quantitative and qualitative research, leads funding bids and manages day-to-day funder relationships.  This role leads a team which both develops our thinking on social policy and provides expertise to other teams at NEF.

The Role 
 
We are currently looking for a Café Assistant to join our Café team at our Yorkshire Cancer Research Centre in Harrogate.

Reporting to the Café Manager, you will work alongside a dedicated team of volunteers, delivering excellent customer service, preparing food and drinks, and maintaining high standards of cleanliness and presentation. You’ll also assist with stock control, financial procedures, and café administration. 

Specifically, you will: 

• Play an active part in running our Café in Harrogate, supporting the Café Manager in implementing processes and ways of working.

• Adhere to and administer all processes and practices of the Café through active stock management, replenishment, and rotation. 

• Take customer orders and prepare and serve food and drinks to the agreed standards as demonstrated by the Café Management team. 

• Support the Café management team to ensure the Café is presented to the highest standards and kept clean and tidy, including washing up and clearing tables. 

• Provide the highest levels of customer service to our customers and visitors to the centre and support our volunteers to do the same.  

• Work alongside a team of well-trained volunteers in a positive and collaborative manner. 

• Ensure that all charity policies, cafe standards, and operating procedures are adhered to by all volunteers and are maintained and followed in a consistent manner. This includes Food Safety, Allergens, Health and Safety and Trading Standards. 

• Operate the EPOS system in accordance with charity policy to ensure accounting and stock control are correct. 

• Train and work alongside a team of volunteers to deliver an outstanding customer experience. 

• Handle complaints effectively and efficiently, escalating to Café management where they cannot be resolved at a local level. 

• Be trained as a First Aider and Fire Marshal. 

 
About You 

To be considered for this role, you will need: 

• To be ideally educated to GCSE level or equivalent but not essential.

• To ideally to have a proven track record in hospitality or catering.

• To have previous experience in charity sector or commercial sector is desirable. 

• To have a basic understanding of Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, Word and Excel. 

• To have experience of managing people/volunteers including recruitment and development is desirable. 

• To be organised with good time management skills.

• To have the ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines.

Main Duties

• Oversee and later complete building surveys on Diocese church properties.

The role of Finance Officer is critical to our success, working across all parts of the charity to support our life-saving work in cancer prevention.
