Longborough Festival Opera is seeking a hands-on, proactive individual to join the team as Head of Finance working closely with the Executive Director to deliver our strategic objectives. You will ensure highly effective financial management and controls for the charity and support non-finance managers with budget management. You will be a strategic thinker and efficient planner, a detail-orientated person who enjoys working as a core part of a small team and is self-motivated when working remotely. The Head of Finance will be responsible for:
Finance: Preparation of annual budgets, financial reporting & modelling. Be the lead for the year-end and audit process. Preparation and monitoring of cash-flow. Ensure robust and effective financial systems and processes. Taxation calculations and compliance. Manage the monthly payroll, pension and HMRC submissions
HR: Managing the HR processes and record keeping
Other: Line manage the Finance & Administration Assistant, company secretarial duties, support with fundraising and other administrative tasks. Working closely with the Box Office team to ensure all income is recorded and reconciled to finance systems

About you
We are seeking an organised individual with demonstrable experience in providing professional HR support, and a desire to grow and develop in a varied and interesting generalist role.
You will have a background in HR, and ideally, additional experience supporting in wider business support, such as office administration, IT or operations.

About the role
Reporting to the Head of People, the HR Officer will primarily:
- Act as first point of contact on general HR & operational queries for the staff team and administer relevant files and email inboxes

- Support in the recruitment of diverse and effective staff

The role

Job Title: Finance Manager

Oversight of accounting and cash management
Most of the detailed work in this section is undertaken by the direct reports with the oversight and management being provided by this Finance Manager role
· Appropriate recording, processing, coding, posting of all financial transactions – including but not limited to bank receipts and payments, accounts payable, accounts receivable, conference fee income, invoicing, journal entries.
· Regular timely bank reconciliations.

· Chart of accounts structure and department codes
· Gift Aid claims
· VAT returns
· Foreign Speaker returns to HMRC

Role Particulars -
Working Pattern: Full time working hours, including weekly in-person team meetings in London: monthly all-staff meetings on Tuesdays twice a month, and weekly on Tuesdays twice a month. The nature of this role means that some travel and working away from home will be required, as agreed in advance. Specifically, the Finance Manager must be available for the annual leadership conference and some or all of the New Wine annual summer festival (on-site or remote support).
Places of work: This role is eligible for hybrid and flexible working, with a minimum of 1 day in the London office a week.
Supervision: The post holder will receive regular supervision from their line manager.
Role review: There is a three-month probationary period for this role. The post holder will then receive a quarterly rolling review of performance, the role, job description, terms and package.

In addition to our 50 staff, you will also provide HR support to clergy, parishes and volunteers, and so will need to be up for the challenge of learning about the canon and ecclesiastical laws that governs those in clergy roles, and working with the National Church of England.

As an HR Business Partner, you will play a pivotal role in fostering a people-focused culture, reporting directly to the Head of HR, you will lead the development and provision of HR services while building and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders. Accountabilities:
- Collaborate with the Head of HR and People Director to strengthen the organisational culture and empower managers to resolve employee issues effectively.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of the HR strategy across the charity.
- Lead efforts in promoting Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) initiatives, ensuring they are integrated into all HR activities.
- Support, develop and promote wellbeing initiatives to cultivate a positive working environment.
- Provide tailored HR advice and guidance, data analysis, metrics and site visits to identify needs, trends and opportunities.
- Manage complex employee relations cases and provide coaching to managers on best practices and legal requirements.
- Support change management programs, including restructures and facilitate workforce planning initiatives.
- Develop and deliver learning solutions to upskill stakeholder groups as needed.
- Manage recruitment initiatives and support hiring managers throughout the selection process.
To succeed in this role:
You will have exceptional interpersonal and negotiation skills, demonstrating the ability to influence and challenge with tact and diplomacy. You will exhibit a proactive, innovative and creative approach, capable of identifying and addressing opportunities or issues promptly and effectively. Handling difficult and sensitive situations with professionalism and diplomacy is essential. Strong self-management skills are required to prioritise tasks and manage conflicting priorities efficiently. You will have experience of change management, transformation, employment legislation and HR best practices, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy. Proficiency in interpreting complex data and trends to make recommendations is crucial. Technological proficiency with HRIS, AI, and Microsoft Office 365 is necessary. Additionally, you will have significant experience in HR generalist roles, Shared Services environment, including advising on formal meetings and resolving key people issues.

This is a hybrid role, and only requiring a minimum of one day a week in their main office which is a short walk from Old Street Station (National Rail) and Angel Station (London Underground). This position will be reporting directly to Director of Finance and Resources and the main responsibilities for Head of HR are:
