About the Role

As Community Impact Manager, you'll:

• Be at the heart of our community-led approach, building trusted relationships, strengthening organisations and helping communities access the support and opportunities they need to thrive.
• Work closely with charities, community organisations, local partners and stakeholders to support community-led change. Building strong local relationships, you'll help organisations grow stronger, connect people and resources, and identify opportunities that lead to meaningful outcomes for communities.
• Manage a portfolio of funded organisations, broker partnerships, gather local insight and ensure community voices help shape our programmes and investment. Acting as a trusted representative of the Foundation, you'll bring people together across sectors, unlock opportunities for collaboration and help ensure our funding delivers real and lasting impact.

About You

We're looking for a relationship-builder who is passionate about communities and committed to creating positive social change. You will have experience working alongside communities, charities or community-focused organisations, helping them build confidence, capability and long-term resilience.

You'll be skilled at building partnerships, bringing people together and influencing a wide range of stakeholders. Comfortable working independently, you'll be proactive, organised and able to navigate complex environments with confidence and sound judgement.

Most importantly, you'll share our commitment to equity, inclusion and community-led approaches, with the ability to listen, build trust and turn ideas into meaningful action and outcomes.

Active Essex Foundation is a successful and growing charity dedicated to creating the conditions for young people and communities across Essex to thrive. Our work focuses on three core areas: improving young people’s mental health, reducing vulnerabilities to youth crime and exploitation, and strengthening communities through trusted relationships and positive engagement. We collaborate with a network of over 100 community organisations and local partners to design and deliver programmes that use physical activity, mentoring and community support as tools to build resilience, improve wellbeing and reduce inequalities. Everything we do is shaped by the real experiences of the people we serve, ensuring our interventions are meaningful, accessible and rooted in what communities tell us they need. 

This role will work across Active Essex Foundation and Active Essex.  Active Essex is the strategic partnership for physical activity and sport across Greater Essex, working with local authorities, health partners, voluntary sector organisations and communities to create the conditions for active lives. Through a place-based approach, Active Essex brings together insight, evidence and local collaboration to tackle inequalities and improve health and wellbeing outcomes. 

The Impact Manager will provide professional leadership for research, evaluation and evidence generation across activities. The postholder will lead the development of robust evaluation approaches, ensure methodological quality, support organisational learning and oversee the work of Impact Researchers operating within place and thematic structures. 

Working closely with the Intelligence Manager, the role will play a key part in coordinating organisational insight and evaluation priorities whilst ensuring that local intelligence, research and evaluation evidence are translated into meaningful action. This role acts as a senior professional for evaluation and impact work across the organisation and will support the development of a culture where evidence is consistently used to improve outcomes for communities across Essex.

You’ll lead projects end‑to‑end – from early concept and funding through to mobilisation, delivery, evaluation and legacy – ensuring programmes are well governed, well delivered and genuinely impactful.

In this varied and high-profile role, you will be:

• Managing a diverse portfolio of projects, campaigns and partnerships, delivered to agreed scope, budget, timelines and quality
• Working closely with external partners, funders and suppliers to coordinate delivery and maximise impact
• Applying consistent, high‑quality project management standards, documentation and governance throughout the project lifecycle
• Leading risk, safeguarding, health & safety and compliance management across community‑focused programmes
• Producing board, partner and audit‑ready reporting, giving clear visibility of progress, risks, outcomes and learning
• Leading impact reporting and evaluation – turning data and insight into evidence, learning and future opportunity
• Managing project budgets, resources and supplier relationships to ensure value for money and compliance
• Supporting and developing colleagues, building strong project discipline, capability and collaboration across the team
• Representing our work confidently in presentations, reviews, events and partner forums

This is a highly collaborative role, working closely with colleagues across Partnerships & Communities, Group Projects, Operations, Support Services and external organisations.

 Our ideal candidate:

You’ll be a confident and values‑driven project professional who combines strong delivery discipline with empathy, creativity and influence.

• Proven experience leading complex projects end‑to‑end in multi‑stakeholder environments
• A strong understanding of project governance, assurance, risk management and portfolio delivery
• Experience working with partners, community organisations or suppliers, building trusted, productive relationships
• Confidence managing budgets, financial planning and value‑for‑money decisions within projects
• Excellent communication skills – able to translate complex information into clear, engaging messages for varied audiences
• Experience using project management tools and digital reporting platforms (e.g. MS Project, Smartsheet, Jira, Visio or similar)
• A recognised project management qualification (PRINCE2 Practitioner or equivalent) or equivalent experience
• A genuine commitment to inclusion, co‑production and social impact, with an understanding of safeguarding and ethical delivery
• Above all, you’ll be motivated by purpose, comfortable with ambiguity, and excited by the opportunity to turn ideas into mobilised, high‑impact programmes.

As the new High-Value Impact Communications Manager, you will work closely with philanthropy and corporate fundraising teams to create compelling proposals, impact reports, speeches and supporter communications that inspire major donors, trusts, foundations and corporate partners.
