We’re looking for a creative, analytical and organised Impact & Evaluation Manager to join our team and lead on delivering our refreshed approach to measuring impact, evaluation and reporting following the launch of our new strategy.

You’ll work alongside our SMT, teams across the charity, and colleagues at the Trust to provide guidance and support in all aspects of monitoring and evaluation, ensuring we’re able to demonstrate how we’re delivering against our strategic objectives, and how we’re delivering impact for the patients and NHS staff at our hospitals.

As well as ensuring we’re set up with the tools and systems we need for success in evaluating our strategy, you’ll provide day-to-day support and advice for teams in evaluating the impact of their work, sourcing data to evidence this impact, and presenting this information in the most engaging way possible for our various stakeholders and supporters.

This is an important role at a critical time for the charity, so we’re looking for someone who can bring a fresh perspective on impact and evaluation to support us as we prepare to make an even bigger difference through our strategy.

Our Vision for Transformation through Forests

This is a defining moment for the National Forest, with a renewed Vision to harness the transformative power of forests to restore nature, connect communities, and drive enterprise for a positive future. Over 30 years, this 200 square mile landscape has been reshaped, more than 10 million trees planted, and forest cover increased from 6% to 26%. Now, we are ready to build on this success  enabling three new national forests and championing a forest network for England.

We are now looking for an Evidence and Impact Manager to join us on a permanent, full-time basis, working 37 hours per week.

The Role

As our Evidence and Impact Manager, you will lead the development and continual improvement of our Outcomes Framework, helping us evidence progress towards our vision of ‘Transformation through Forests’.

Working to deliver our vision for nature, communities and enterprise, you’ll establish meaningful metrics, effective data collection, evaluation and reporting processes.

Managing a small team, you will oversee the generation and delivery of robust evidence and insight, translating complex information for a range of audiences to inform decision-making, support programme development, and inform external messaging for communications and advocacy work.

Additionally, you will:

- Oversee reporting for the Defra England Tree Planting Programme
- Line manage a Grants Officer who administers £2m of grants for forest creation and woodland management

Some evening and weekend work may be required, for which time off in lieu will apply, and you may also need to travel to sites across rural locations.

About You

To be considered as our Evidence and Impact Manager, you will need:

- At least five years’ experience in a similar role
- Experience of leading corporate performance monitoring and reporting within the environmental field
- Proven experience of using GIS for dataset analysis and the presentation of spatial information
- Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research and information presentation techniques
- An understanding of the benefits of tree planting and habitat creation for nature, communities and enterprise
- A relevant degree or postgraduate qualification

Impact and Evaluation Manager

The Impact and Evaluation Manager will build on and shape an evolving charity impact measurement framework.

This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about building an evidence-based culture, integrating both data-driven insights and qualitative narratives to enhance outcomes for young people.

You will be working for a charity that transforms the lives of care-experienced young people through employment targeted interventions. 

Position: Impact and Evaluation Manager

Location: London Waterloo/Hybrid (2 days in the office for full time and 1 day for part-time staff)

Salary: £40,000 – £45,000 FTE, pro rata for part-time hours

Contract: Maternity cover, fixed-term for 12 months, with potential for extension

Hours: Full-time 37.5 hours per week (part-time considered)

About the Role

Your work will capture the effectiveness of the wide-ranging services and strengthen the evidence base that reflects the lived experiences of the young people the organisation supports. Reporting to the Director of Fundraising, Policy, Communications & Impact, you will be part of a dynamic team contributing to sector leadership by benchmarking practices, identifying emerging trends, and strengthening the advocacy work.

As maternity cover, you will build on strong foundations already in place, maintaining momentum across impact and evidence work while bringing your own expertise and ideas to its continued development.

By combining internal evaluation with sector-wide research, you will amplify the voices of care-experienced young people, ensuring their experiences drive meaningful change in the programmes and beyond.

About You

We are looking for someone with proven experience in impact measurement, evaluation, and research, preferably within the charity sector.

You will have:

• Strong analytical skills, with proficiency in qualitative and quantitative research methods including use of survey software (such as Qualtrics, SurveyMonkey or similar)
• Proficiency in using Excel to clean, manipulate, and analyse data.
• Demonstrated ability to design and implement evaluation frameworks, in collaboration with programme users and stakeholders.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex data as actionable insights through engaging reports, infographics, or dashboards.
• Strong project management skills and the ability to balance multiple priorities.
• Familiarity with GDPR and data protection best practices in research and evaluation.

To manage post-award impact and reporting requirements of The Christie Charity and work closely with the Grants Manager, who will focus primarily on the pre-award stage of the grant life cycle.

To source and share industry information across the Charity.

Active Essex Foundation is a successful and growing charity dedicated to creating the conditions for young people and communities across Essex to thrive. Our work focuses on three core areas: improving young people’s mental health, reducing vulnerabilities to youth crime and exploitation, and strengthening communities through trusted relationships and positive engagement. We collaborate with a network of over 100 community organisations and local partners to design and deliver programmes that use physical activity, mentoring and community support as tools to build resilience, improve wellbeing and reduce inequalities. This role will work across Active Essex Foundation and Active Essex.  Active Essex is the strategic partnership for physical activity and sport across Greater Essex, working with local authorities, health partners, voluntary sector organisations and communities to create the conditions for active lives. Through a place-based approach, Active Essex brings together insight, evidence and local collaboration to tackle inequalities and improve health and wellbeing outcomes. 

The Impact Manager will provide professional leadership for research, evaluation and evidence generation across activities. The postholder will lead the development of robust evaluation approaches, ensure methodological quality, support organisational learning and oversee the work of Impact Researchers operating within place and thematic structures. 

Working closely with the Intelligence Manager, the role will play a key part in coordinating organisational insight and evaluation priorities whilst ensuring that local intelligence, research and evaluation evidence are translated into meaningful action. This role acts as a senior professional for evaluation and impact work across the organisation and will support the development of a culture where evidence is consistently used to improve outcomes for communities across Essex.
