We are looking for a Chief Officer who will be responsible for the day to day running of the charity as well as working with the Trustees to take the organisation forwards.  The successful candidate will have experience of working with adults with learning disabilities, will have skills in finance, management and IT, and will enjoy working in a busy environment where there are changing demands and priorities throughout the day.

At Oak Tree Farm we are committed to providing a high quality, supportive environment where adults with learning disabilities, our Team Members, are the centre of everything we do.  The farm has livestock, growing fields, greenhouses, polytunnels and a tearoom as well as craft rooms, a cottage garden, pottery and shop. Our Team Members are involved in every aspect of life on the farm and the farm is firmly embedded in the local community with Team Members providing gardening services to local people as well as volunteering on the Sandon Estate.

About the role
This is a new role for Clatterbridge Cancer Charity as we look to expand our successful Individual Giving & Lottery programmes.

The post holder will deliver quality fundraising campaigns, including Cash Appeals, Regular Giving and Lottery that will grow income, supporter base and lifetime value. Putting supporters at the heart of the Charity’s work, the role includes acquisition, retention and stewardship of individual donors and lottery players to achieve a sustainable increase in income for Clatterbridge Cancer Charity.

You’ll have strong commercial knowledge, with the ability to apply this to the Charity sector; adding value to our existing fundraising activities and impact reporting. 

As part of a busy and ambitious team, this role would suit a proactive and enthusiastic individual with a talent for storytelling and a knowledge of data-driven marketing. Working with the Digital Fundraising Manager and Marketing & PR Manager, they will be instrumental to the success of Individual Giving during an exciting period of growth for Clatterbridge Cancer Charity.

Experience

Education should be the means to break the link between demographics and destiny. Yet every week 109 children in England – equivalent to three full classrooms – are asked to leave their schools and never come back, with disastrous personal and societal consequences. The Difference, a young education charity, was founded to change the story on this lost learning. It exists to build the status and expertise of teachers working with vulnerable children, particularly those who are excluded from mainstream schools.

By 2030, The Difference want rates of exclusion and absence to be falling nationally and for schools to be better equipped to support all children, including those who may be vulnerable.

The organisation was born out of a year of research into school exclusions with think-tank IPPR. This research identified a lack of inclusion expertise in schools and proposed a new leadership development programme to fill this gap. In 2018, The Difference founder Kiran hired the team who took this idea from concept to reality, beginning work with our first schools.

The Difference is now a 22-strong team delivering multiple school leadership programmes, alongside a growing research and policy arm. The team is supported by our Youth Advisory Board, made up of young people who have experienced exclusion and who provide their expertise and insights on how school inclusion work should be done. This work is needed more than ever. Effects of COVID-19, coupled with the spiralling cost of living, have substantially increased levels of vulnerability. Schools serving excluded pupils face under-funding. The Difference has had excellent early impact but there is work ahead to capture this, share learning with schools and policy-makers, and grow our capacity to lower exclusions across England.

Our first permanent Head of Fundraising will drive the growth and sustainability of our fundraising function. Having proved the impact on exclusions via our programmes, you will help us generate the income to scale this success across the country. We need an expert fundraiser to support this journey. Key Responsibilities

• Drive the delivery of a new fundraising strategy for The Difference, motivating and involving key members of the team, particularly the Development and Impact Manager.
• Build and manage a dynamic portfolio of around 20-30 major individual prospects and donors with capacity to give £50k+, working with key stakeholders to solicit and close asks.
• Grow overall fundraised income from £1.25m to £1.9m annually in next 3 years.

Founded in 2016 and formally established in 2017, Youth Realities is a specialist youth and survivor-led charity supporting young people, primarily young women and girls aged 11-25, impacted by teenage relationship abuse.

Main purpose of the role

Reporting to the Fundraising Manager, this post will lead on the development and delivery of Thrive’s community and public fundraising whilst working collaboratively with the rest of fundraising team to maximise and develop opportunities over various income streams.

Working arrangements

This is a blended role, where your work will be dual located between your home and our London office.

About you

With an interest in, and understanding of the external political environment, you'll have a good understanding of the workings of the UK Government and parliamentary procedure. You'll have an understanding of the role of BHF and other health and medical research charities in general, and particularly in the political arena.

You'll have experience of working in the UK Parliament or within a public affairs in-house team or consultancy, and have excellent communication skills. Having previously engaged with political stakeholders, you'll be able to build strong relationships with key internal and external colleagues.

With a proven ability to write clearly, concisely and persuasively for political audiences in a variety of formats, you’ll be able to summarise complex information swiftly and accurately for a variety of audiences. You'll also have strong organisational skills, including experience of coordinating events.

Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) is a leading UK charity dedicated to improving the health and dignity of Palestinians affected by conflict, occupation, and displacement. With a focus on the occupied Palestinian territory and Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon, we provide vital health and medical care to those in need, particularly in crisis zones like Gaza. As part of our commitment to meeting the growing needs of the communities we serve, we're expanding our team. 

The ideal candidate will have responsibilities that include monitoring compliance with MAP’s financial and procurement policies, developing strong cash and treasury management policies, and managing financial accounting systems. You will also ensure timely and accurate preparation of annual statutory accounts, compliance with relevant accounting and legal requirements, and submission of necessary returns to regulatory bodies. 

Duties and key responsibilities 

Leadership, Collaboration & Line Management 

• Support the Director of Operations through preparation for and reporting to governance meetings. 

• Participate actively as a member of the Leadership Team. 

• Provide leadership, direction, training, and motivation as appropriate to the UK Finance Manager, and the overseas Finance Managers in conjunction with overseas Directors. 

Finance Policy & Process Management 

• Be responsible for monitoring compliance with MAP’s financial and procurement policies and review and update these policies on a regular basis. 

• Develop and implement strong cash and treasury management policies and procedures. 

• Manage and develop all financial accounting systems in consultation with the Head of Reporting to ensure they are fit for purpose. 

• Help to ensure value for money and the effective use of funds across the organisation. 

Compliance & Regulatory Reporting 

• Manage the ongoing relationships with the external auditors. 

• Ensure the timely and accurate preparation of the annual statutory accounts for the annual audit and implement recommendations from the auditors and/or Board. 

• Monitor institutional income and related contracts and ensure that all restricted income, including Zakat, is properly accounted for. 

• Ensure the financial management of MAP is compliant with relevant accounting, legal, HMRC and tax requirements, including VAT and corporation tax, and that the correct returns are made. 

• Submit the necessary returns and maintain our records with the Charity Commission and Companies House on a timely basis.

Cashflow & Bank Account Management 

• Manage the ongoing relationships with MAP’s banks in the UK. 

• Maintain UK bank accounts and ensure financial governance is in place for overseas bank accounts.

• Ensure bank mandates and online banking operations are reviewed and updated on time. 

• Monitor and manage the organisation's cash flow to ensure there are sufficient currency funds to meet operational needs. 

• Review fund and payment  requests from overseas offices and that planned activities are within budget. 

• Release all payments from UK bank accounts, including UK payroll. 

Financial Controls 

• Implement appropriate internal controls, policies, and procedures to protect against fraud and misappropriation. 

• Oversee and manage all payroll budgets and forecasts. 

• Oversee the payroll functions, ensuring adequate internal controls and approvals are in place and adhered to, and all statutory requirements are met. 

• Ensure regular reconciliations are made between the accounting system and the CRM. 

• Oversee legacy administration liaising with the Legacy Advisor. 

Risk Management 

• Risk management – manage strategic and operational financial risks working with the Head of Internal Audit & Compliance.

• Maintain insurance policies across all MAP offices to ensure appropriate and adequate risk mitigation and meet statutory requirements. 

Person Specification 

Experience 

• Extensive experience in a finance leadership role within a complex charitable organisation, working internationally. 

• Experience of UK charity finance practice and governance - UK Charities SORP FRS 102. 

• Excellent technical knowledge and skills in accountancy principles, governance, and standards, including preparation of statutory accounts. 

• Successful track record of managing financial systems, and cashflow. 

• Experience of working in a multi-currency organisation. 

• Ability to contribute to the management of in-country finance colleagues, while not taking direct line-management responsibility for them.

Summary of duties: 

Our Communications and Engagement Officer will lead on the work of our new Community Hub project and promote all the great things that CfD does e.g. the events and activities as part of our Deaf People Together project.  The post holder will be based at The Vassall Centre, Gill Avenue, Fishponds, Bristol BS16 2QQ. 

This is an exciting opportunity to help CfD improve our communications, and to support the Deaf Community and hard of hearing people throughout Bristol with managing and sharing their information.  You will work with Deaf and hard of hearing people by providing the training, tools, and resources to enable them to create their own information materials that can be shared with the community. 

You will be responsible for developing and uploading website content, creating marketing material, use of social media and other communications platforms to help deliver the aims of our Community Hub project and to increase our community engagement and profile.  You will also lead on commissioning a redesign of our website. 

You will also have a role in supporting our Community Development Officer to arrange and publicise events. 

You will use your time in this way: 

• Half of your time on the Community Hub Project; 

• About a day a week supporting our Community Development Officer; 

• The rest of your time on promoting other projects and developing the CfD website. 

This is a role for a creative individual who is well organised and is proactive, who has the ambition to develop and deliver fun, engaging, and effective accessible communication. 

The main responsibilities are to: 

Community Hub 

1. Provide training for and support deaf volunteers to improve CfD’s capacity to produce and share relevant community information from across Bristol. You will organise workshops for deaf people to develop their skills in video and media technology to produce accessible content. 

1. Develop a virtual information hub, where information on CfD events and other activities in Bristol will be fully accessible to all deaf people, using CfD’s website, social media, apps, and newsletters. 

1. Support deaf people with producing their own newsletters using BSL and subtitles. Our aim is to have a regular newsletter that is produced and managed by deaf people. 

1. Develop a CfD “newsround” – a regular video round-up of events, news, and information of interest to deaf people. 

1. Work with 4 Community Hubs in Bristol to increase their accessibility for and engagement with deaf people in their neighbourhoods, and to increase their understanding of how to include deaf people in activities. This work will include collaborating to deliver deaf-focused events. 

Communications 

1. Support other projects at CfD with information dissemination, and media and communications, such as creating posters, video production, posting on social media, and basic updates on our website.

1. Improve the quality and reach of information that CfD sends out e.g. using other social media platforms. 

1. Support the CFD Community Development Officer by arranging and promoting events. 

1. Ensure compliance across all media with CfD’s brand guidelines. 

1. Lead on reviewing the CfD website and commissioning a new design. 

1. Coordinate any media enquiries. 

1. Collect data to analyse and evaluate the impact of the role. 

General 

1. Attend conferences, training, and other staff development opportunities.  

1. Develop an agreed personal training plan and carry this out using internal and external training as required.

Terms and conditions:

• Excellent interpersonal skills and confidence in communicating with Deaf British Sign Language (BSL) users and hard of hearing people. This may be direct communication or through a BSL interpreter or speech-to-text operator.

• Ability to create high-quality communications material and to engage with a variety of audiences. 

• Experience of social media management and familiarity with evolving and new digital media platforms. 

• Ability to create graphics and images for communication materials. 

• Ability to produce video material, including filming and editing and adding including subtitles.

• Ability to think creatively.

• Ability to write clear content for social media and website pages

• Experience of training and supporting groups of people, either as part of paid work or as a volunteer.
