Over the past 8 years, Friends of the Earth has run a successful campaign leadership building programme with diverse young people in Further Education colleges and youth work settings across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The programme, My World My Home, recruits and supports teams of young people to take their first steps in building power in their community and leading their own environmental justice campaigns.

The young people we work with often face marginalisation and they are all new to campaigning and learning about environmental justice. Following our one-year programme our alumni have gone on to become spokespeople in national media, the Welsh Government and the UK Parliament, they have led their own campaigns, and they have become involved with national youth movements for environmental justice.

Key Skills and Attributes:

As a Youth Campaign Coach you will be responsible for delivering our programme in two locations in south Wales, leading face-to-face training and workshops with young people and supporting them as a group and 1-2-1 to build their skills and deliver their campaign actions. It is an exciting time to start this role as we are looking for new partnerships with youth organisations and are exploring embedding My World My Home into Friends of the Earth Cymru community campaigns. We especially welcome candidates who are well networked within south Wales communities to support these new groups.

A background in Youth Work or youth campaigning and a working understanding of the causes and impact of marginalisation (particularly that experienced by racialised, working class and disabled youth) will be essential for this role. Knowledge of community organising approaches would also be helpful.

This role is based in Cardiff to allow for travel via public transport to the My World My Home groups two days a week. The Debt Technical Supervisor provides real-time support and constructive feedback, helping advisers navigate complex cases and ensuring they have access to the necessary resources and information. Support, and regularly audit delivery partner organisations, ensuring that they are prepared for external reviews of their service in line with the Grant Agreement.

• Ensure partner organisation are kept up to date with the requirements for external assessments.
• Supporting partner organisations with the preparation and review of files and documentation ahead of an external assessment.

• Working closely with the Quality Assurance Mangers to ensure Advisors based at delivery partners have a good awareness and understanding of the quality and service delivery requirements and have active involvement in the delivery of partnership events related to both quality improvement and CPD.

The Spear Assistant Coach will work as part of the River Church staff team, alongside the Centre Manager to deliver the Spear Programme, equipping and empowering 16-24 year olds to overcome barriers to employment and turn their lives around by moving into sustainable work or further education.

The important stuff 

Salary: up tp £25,000 pro-rata

Hours: Part-Time, 3 days; 9.30am – 5.30pm with occasional evening working required (for events such as termly Spear Celebration evenings)

Key Responsibilities 

Spear Programme

• Lead group sessions of up to 10 young people, using coaching skills to transform their mindsets, and to maximise their potential in stepping into the world of work.
• Prepare and deliver coaching sessions on a weekly basis and find creative ways of developing ongoing relationships with Spear trainees. This includes running application workshops with past trainees as well as maintaining records and reporting on statistics. 

Relationship Management

• Build and manage relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including referrers, local businesses, and other organisations.
• You will support with job fairs, mock interview days and welcoming external visitors to the centre.

Church Community

• The Assistant Coach is directly employed by River Church, though it is not a requirement of the role for the successful candidate to join River Church as their worshipping community if they are already part of another local church
• Help to raise the profile of the Spear programme within River Church and build a network of supporters and volunteers from the congregation.

This role will suit you if you are:

• An active Christian, able to personally represent the values and beliefs of Resurgo and River Church, Ipswich.
• Passion for social justice and for working as part of the church to transform communities, especially supporting young people in employment or education.

Elders Voice, a charity supporting older people, are excited to be joining a consortium of organisations, that will work together on making Brent an age friendly borough. Led by the Brent Pensioner’s Forum, the consortium’s aim is to make Brent a place where people can live healthy and active later lives; a place where the environment, activities and services enable older people to enjoy life, participate in society and be valued for their contribution.

We are looking for a coordinator to develop and implement a borough-wide action plan, that addresses the eight barriers to the wellbeing and participation of older people, as identified by the World Health Organisation (WHO) under their Age Friendly Cities Framework. Job Purpose

• This role sits within our crisis alternative service, Safe Space, which is a core and out of hours service providing a safe and welcoming space for people who are feeling distressed and experiencing crisis. Our aim of the service is to keep individuals well in the community and prevent readmission into hospital. The service operates 365 days a year from 14:00-22:00pm across all our boroughs.
• Staff within the service will provide person-centred, practical and emotional support, face to face or via telephone or virtual on a one-to-one basis to individuals experiencing mental health crisis or preventing crisis.
• The objectives of the service include:
• To improve the mental wellbeing of people experiencing mental health and social crisis in HFEH.
• To proactively work with keeping people well in the community to reduce re-admitters into hospitals by working with WL NHS teams (e.g. discharge, LPS, CATT, MINT and SPA)
• To provide a true alternative to A&E via a non-clinical drop-in service to support clients
• To provide support to clients accessing the service- for instance: signposting, de-escalation and crisis recovery planning.
• To contribute to an improvement in individual mental wellbeing.
• To remain a source of independent support for all clients.
• To treat service users with respect, dignity and personalised support
• To raise awareness of mental health services available with the goal to improve long term mental health and reduce social isolation

The Role

The role of the senior support worker is to support the team manager with the smooth running of the allocated site and staff; supporting development and rest of the team including volunteer recruiting, induction (training and development) and supervision. Senior support worker will also lead in delivering interventions on a one-to-one. The role will also involve triaging and assessing all clients accessing the service, signposting and delivering collaborative self-management plans with clients to improve mental wellbeing.
