About you

You will have expertise in driving engagement and awareness across multiple channels, be skilled at producing and commissioning creative content, strong experience in community management and be up-to-date on the latest trends and changes in the social media landscape. Experience of working in the charity sector and a sound understanding of what makes good fundraising content would be a distinct advantage.

The ideal candidate will be experienced in working within the parameters of an established brand whilst driving innovation and maximising creative opportunities. The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) brings together 15 leading UK aid charities to raise funds quickly and efficiently at times of humanitarian crisis overseas. This role will require you to lead on organic social media as part of the DEC Communications team, working closely with the Digital and Innovation team in Fundraising, collaborate with social leads across our 15 member charities and public figures through our talent agency. During appeal launch periods it will also involve managing a small social media team of volunteers.

All roles at the DEC are based in our London office. We operate a hybrid working model, with some non-negotiable office attendance. Job Description

We are looking to recruit a dynamic and experienced Senior Research Manager to manage the monitoring, evaluation and learning activities of a high profile National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) portfolio of translational, clinical and applied health research infrastructure funding schemes. 

Job Purpose 
Reporting to the Assistant Director, the post holder will work closely with the rest of the infrastructure team (especially the Programme Leads and Senior Research Managers who are responsible for the development and management of the infrastructure schemes), and with Data Analytics colleagues (who are responsible for designing systems for capturing, cleaning and presenting data), to manage the infrastructure reporting and evaluation activities. At an award level, you will develop, improve and maintain monitoring and reporting processes, and at a scheme level, you will implement monitoring, evaluation and learning approaches, including overseeing the delivery and/or commissioning of impact evaluations. You will support a wider programme around visibility and the strategic use of data within infrastructure, considering links to policy directives around Busting Bureaucracy, the developing NIHR digital strategy and system operability issues with NHS and University systems. 

You will be adept at dealing with an array of data sources (metrics, narrative and financial reporting information), have a good understanding of research impact, an understanding of the routes to achieving it, and how to apply monitoring, evaluation and learning approaches to generate insight that can evidence impact and support continuous improvement of scheme funding and support processes. You will have experience of managing complex projects, knowledge of the UK’s research environment and political agenda, and honed skills in stakeholder management. You will be a strategic thinker, capable of seeing the issues and solutions from a number of different stakeholder perspectives to see the bigger picture. You will be comfortable dealing with complexity and developing an approach to balance the needs of different stakeholders. You will be a team player, able to work in close partnership with a number of teams at NIHR and the DHSC.

Key Accountabilities:

• Manage elements of the infrastructure monitoring processes: you will manage parts of the infrastructure reporting process both internally at the technical systems level and externally with users to support training and propose improvements. You will work with others to develop new reporting processes (for new awards), maintain existing annual and quarterly reporting, support the review of submitted reports by the team and the production of feedback, and drive process improvements through a continuous improvement cycle.

• Development of reporting outputs: support quantitative and qualitative data interrogation in projects across the infrastructure. Interrogating data to support strategic reviews, and, where feasible and appropriate, designing visual dashboards of progress using data collected and collated for reporting purposes. Also draw on award level reported data to feed into strategic scheme level evaluations and reviews, to produce impact case studies, and to feed into organisational level learning and reporting. This work will help articulate the contribution of the NIHR infrastructure to the wider health and social care system as well as feeding into broader NIHR initiatives such as the NIHR Impact Programme.

• Scheme reviews: support the delivery of scheme mid-term reviews and evaluations, working closely with the infrastructure team’s Senior Research Managers responsible for specific schemes and the central Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning team to design and plan an appropriate review process for individual schemes.

• Stakeholder engagement: through appropriate stakeholder engagement, developing a sound understanding of data needs, minimising additional requirements of key stakeholders and understanding the types of reporting outputs/feedback that would provide the greatest utility for accountability and learning purposes. Proactively share key learnings across the infrastructure team and with wider stakeholder groups as appropriate.

• Flexible support to the team:  flexible approach to work tasks with ability to ‘muck in’ and provide support on additional tasks across the team during busy times.

Line Management:

• The post holder will be responsible for the line management of one Research Manager and will matrix manage other team members, where appropriate.

Qualifications

Experience and Technical Skills

Required Criteria: 

• A PhD degree in biomedical or health sciences research (or significant equivalent sector experience)
• Experience of implementation or management of monitoring, evaluation and learning approaches including impact assessment and reporting, ideally within health and care research
• Data collection, collation and analysis skills using both qualitative and quantitative methodologies
• Current knowledge of the UK’s health and care research and policy landscape
• Strategic thinker able to interpret complex information while having a clear view of the “big picture”
• Solutions orientated with evidence of delivering projects, requiring evidence synthesis, report writing and developing implementable recommendations

Desirable Criteria:

• Specialist training/knowledge in monitoring, evaluation and learning approaches and methods
• Experience of authoring high quality impact reports and case study reports for a variety of technical and general audiences
• Experience of developing electronic dashboards using visualisation tools such as Qlik Sense, Looker Studio or equivalents
• Line management and staff development experience

About the role

Our Participation and Involvement Manager will build on existing practice across the organisation and lead on the implementation and further development of a participation and involvement framework, enabling a large and diverse range of kinship carers to share their views and expertise meaningfully, safely and effectively to shape Kinship’s activity. It will also support our growing participation and involvement activity which involves children, young people and young adults with experience of growing up in kinship care.

You will work closely with kinship carers and colleagues across the organisation to understand the key challenges and opportunities with embedding participatory methods, including co-production and co-design, which improve Kinship’s work – right from the design and delivery of our advice and support services through to influencing policy and campaigning for change.

With support from colleagues, you will act as the key cross-organisational adviser on participation and involvement practice, supporting and empowering colleagues to develop the skills and knowledge they need to embed a consistent approach to the involvement of kinship carers to best suit the needs of their roles.

As an enthusiastic and engaging facilitator, and an advocate for participatory methods, you will sensitively and skillfully work alongside kinship carers and colleagues to deliver high quality involvement activity which supports the charity’s mission and aims. Key responsibilities include:

• Refine and further develop an existing organisational participation and involvement framework which supports staff to meaningfully, safely and effectively involve kinship carers in their work.
• Design and implement a plan to embed effective practice based on the framework across Kinship, building a positive organisational culture and providing appropriate training, upskilling and support to colleagues to ensure consistency of delivery and experience for kinship carers.

• Work closely with colleagues across the whole organisation to understand their bespoke needs, strengths and requirements around implementing participatory methods in their day-to-day work, and develop strategic relationships with colleagues in areas with more extensive existing participatory or adjacent activity (e.g. research, volunteering).
• Develop and recruit a network of people with lived experience interested in being more intensively involved in participatory activities, with a focus on increasing the diversity of people working with us.

Essential experience includes:

• Experience managing and leading the delivery of participation or involvement activity with people with lived experience of social issues.
• A commitment to meaningful participation and involvement activity, including a nuanced understanding of the individual and organisational opportunities and challenges associated with this.
• Knowledge of models, methodologies and approaches used in high quality participation and involvement activity, and strong skills in creative facilitation – particularly with groups.
• An understanding of kinship care and how this may impact on kinship carers’ involvement with Kinship and our activity.
• Experience of effective project management with strong attention to detail and organisational skills.

The largest fundraising targets are related to capital projects that are outlined by the School.There are some revenue fundraising targets, including the bursary scheme. We are looking for someone with proven experience securing funding from trusts and foundations, with a strong track record of writing successful applications for significant grants (£200k+). You will be a confident and persuasive writer, able to communicate our impact concisely and compellingly, while building strong and long-lasting funder relationships. 

Proactive and tenacious, you excel at identifying and pursuing new funding opportunities. Highly organised, with keen attention to detail, you can manage multiple applications and deadlines effectively.

You will be familiar with organising a wide range of events and understand what makes a successful fundraising event.You will have experience of stewarding high level givers as well as securing donations from individuals and companies.You will also have:

• Excellent written skills to create accurate, powerful, compelling and persuasive copy in a range of formats. 
• Ability to match the needs of prospective funders with the needs of the charity.

About the Role

Job Purpose:

To provide operational management of the Substance Misuse Through-the-Gate (SMTTG) programme, which supports Lambeth and Southwark women in custody and their transition back into the community. The Coordinator will play a key role in ensuring the service is delivered to a high standard by line managing staff, developing strong partnerships with prisons and recovery services, and fostering a culture of quality, learning, and accountability.

The post holder will also hold a caseload, working directly with women in custody to support them into community services. They will provide robust Through-the-Gate (TTG) support on release and continue to work with women in the community for up to six months to ensure a smooth transition and sustainable recovery.

Key Responsibility Areas:

1. Lead the operational management of the Substance Misuse TTG programme, ensuring high-quality, trauma-responsive support for women impacted by the criminal justice system
