The Role
Lead and deliver a mid-level giving retention and recruitment strategy, for donors giving between £1,000 and £50,000 each year, working with colleagues and senior volunteers to understand potential opportunities for uplift in giving.
Manage the day-to-day delivery of mid-level donor activities, including tracking renewal cycles, supporting donor journeys, and responding to enquiries in a timely and professional manner.
Support the development and delivery of engaging events, and bespoke communications including personalised letters, invitations, proposals, and thank-you communications, ensuring mid-level donors feel valued and connected to the impact of their giving.
Ensure that mid-level donors have the best possible experience of giving to the charity, by engaging with colleagues on the development of appeals to this audience, stewarding those giving at this level, and attracting new supporters
Work with the public fundraising team to thank mid-level donors to fundraising appeals, creating updates and reports, and providing an excellent supporter experience to maximise the opportunity for a longer-term relationship beyond specific appeals.

The Candidate

About Chapter One

Chapter One is a small but growing charity, working to ensure that every child has 1:1 reading support at the time they need it most.

Our Early Literacy Intervention (ELI) programme provides daily, tailored 1:1, 7 minute phonics sessions for children who are behind in phonics. Using a bespoke technology tool that can be aligned to any school phonics scheme, a trained Early Reading Interventionist works individually with target children. We currently have ELIs working in 11 schools in London, East Sussex and the West Midlands, with plans to expand. Data from 2024-25 showed that children receiving ELI support had a phonics screen pass rate of 95% (10% above school cohort averages).

Chapter One also offers a unique Online Reading Volunteer programme which currently supports about 3,500 children a year. It pairs struggling five to seven-year old (KS1) readers with reading support volunteers who come from over 170 local and national businesses. The volunteer pledge is very focused: readers commit 30 minutes a week to read with a child using a bespoke digital platform for an entire academic year. About the role

Working 30 hours per week over 5 days, for 44 weeks a year, you will be responsible for the day-to-day running of our Early Literacy Intervention (ELI) programme in the UK. You will manage a team of part-time ELI practitioners, visiting them regularly in school to provide supervision, quality assurance and support. You will lead on the relationships with schools involved in the programme: organising and overseeing programme delivery; sharing regular data summaries and ensuring pupil progress. As the programme grows, you will also be responsible for the recruitment and training of new ELIs.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual who has recent experience of teaching and/or leading phonics with an excellent understanding of phonics pedagogy and the ability to train and develop our ELI practitioners. The successful candidate must be willing to travel to the schools we work with, initially in (but not limited to) London, East Sussex and the West Midlands. Travel expenses will be paid.

Key Responsibilities
Staff management

• Lead and manage a team of Chapter One Early Literacy Interventionists (ELIs) to effectively deliver the Early Literacy intervention programme in schools.
• Visit ELIs in school regularly to provide supervision, quality assurance and support.
• Recruit, train and induct new ELI practitioners as required.
• Design and create training materials for new ELIs.
• Provide annual training for teachers who have pupils taking part in the programme.
• Conduct monthly supervision meetings and annual appraisals of ELI practitioners and clearly document these.
• Lead the fortnightly ELI meeting, supporting with any issues which may arise.

Programme delivery, school liaison and evaluation

• Ensure ELIs baseline each pupil when they begin and track pupil progress throughout the year.
• Proactively monitor session numbers in all schools and support ELIs to increase session numbers if necessary.
• Conduct termly data meetings with schools to share data trackers and ensure that schools are fully informed about pupil progress.
• Lead on the documentation of key processes and step by step guides for the ELI team and ensure that these processes are followed.
• Analyse pupil data both for ELI pupils and non-ELI pupils to produce reports and identify trends, sharing with the Evidence and Impact Manager as required.
• In collaboration with the Schools Development Manager, conduct annual renewal conversations with partner schools.

Platform development

• Be the first port of call for ELI practitioners for the operation of the Chapter One Early Literacy platform, escalating issues as necessary.
• Liaise with the platform development team to feedback on platform bugs and areas of improvement.
• Proactively identify new directions for the development of the platform, in line with the latest pedagogy and research on early reading, and liaise with the Product Manager and development teams as required.

General responsibilities

• Liaise with Managers in all other departments as required.
• Participate in business planning and objective setting and attend the School and Parent Engagement group meeting each term.

• Qualified teacher status (QTS)
• Right to work in the UK

The Opportunity 

As our Senior Evaluation Coordinator you’ll drive forward how we measure and share our organisation’s impact.

You’ll own our monitoring and evaluation framework and use this to design smart and robust ways to measure how our work creates change.

You’ll lead our annual data collection processes and cycles, collaborating with other teams to collect and share key outcomes data, both internally and externally.

From crafting data methodologies to generating insightful reporting for stakeholders, this role is ideal for someone who loves delving into data, analysing and communicating trends and working with others to make a difference.

• Shape evaluation questions and themes to explore, design the methodology, and consider data required to conduct robust analysis

Sounds great, what will I be doing?

The role empowers service users to manage their wellbeing, build independence, and achieve personal goals through tailored support and co-produced plans. It involves liaising with external agencies, facilitating group and community-based activities, and promoting social inclusion.

The position ensures users understand and engage with the service, while actively monitoring safety and wellbeing. Team collaboration and flexibility are essential to meeting service goals and maintaining high standards of care.

You will also be cooking a meal for service users when you work a weekend shift as well as responsible for keeping the kitchen clean to a good standard for food standards agency inspections

What do I need to bring with me?

You'll need to be able to demonstrate the core skills this role requires as well as match our values and mission. You don't have to tick all the boxes right away; the important thing is that you're willing to learn. We also value lived experience of the areas we support, so if you feel comfortable, please do mention this on your application.

Here's what the team will be looking for

You have proven experience supporting individuals with mental health and/or dual diagnosis issues, either in a paid or voluntary capacity. You demonstrate a strong understanding of mental health conditions, effective communication, and the importance of providing dignified, respectful support.

You possess a solid grasp of Mental Health legislation, particularly the Care Programme Approach (CPA), and apply the principles of recovery through person-centred and strengths-based methods. You work effectively both independently and within a team, supporting colleagues and assisting with the induction of volunteers to maintain high service standards.

With good IT, literacy, and numeracy skills, you confidently use systems such as MS Word, Outlook, and online tools to manage records and communication. You handle challenging behaviour calmly and professionally, maintaining a non-judgemental and anti-discriminatory approach at all times.

Flexible and dedicated, you are willing to work early, late, and occasional weekend shifts to meet service needs. You have a strong understanding of safeguarding and act appropriately to protect clients. Above all, your solution-focused mindset, collaborative attitude, and optimism about recovery enable you to empower clients to make positive, lasting changes.

You must also be confident to cook a Sunday Roast for a group of service users.

When will I be working?

You will be working on a sleep in shift pattern which is on average 39 hours per week for example: 

Monday 14:00 – 23:00 Sleep in Tuesday 08:00 – 15:00 | Thursday 14:00 – 23:00 Sleep in Friday 08:00 – 15:00 | Sunday 14:00 – 23:00 Sleep in Monday 08:00 – 15:00

About our Driver role:

As a Driver, you'll be driving adults with special needs to and from our day service and local activities. Creating a warm and welcoming journey for passengers and building professional relationships and trust with parents/carers. The service will cover daytimes and will include leisure activities i.e. swimming, community visits, bowling, museums, local parks/farm trips, in house activities including drama and virtual sessions.

Applicants need to demonstrate a good understanding of the importance of empowerment and choice to individuals and their independence.

You will have excellent communication skills and be able to work alongside a passenger assistant member.

You will have a caring and calming nature.

Be willing to have an enhanced DBS and medical check completed.
