One in 20 adults in the UK has never learnt to read at all. This can have a serious impact on their confidence and wellbeing, limiting access to training, employment, and everyday opportunities that many take for granted. Being unable to read as an adult can be isolating and dangerous, reinforces social inequality, restricts economic growth, and worsens intergenerational disadvantage - but it is never too late to learn.

Read Easy helps adults transform their lives by learning to read. It does this by supporting its growing network of locally run, volunteer-led affiliated groups that offer free, confidential, one-to-one reading coaching—both in person and online to adults - aged from 18-88. 

With its free, flexible, confidential approach, Read Easy encourages people who are too embarrassed to join a class to come forward for one-to-one support. Each new reader is provided with their own personal Reading Coach, so that they can learn in private and at their own pace. Learning to read transforms their lives in many other ways as well, including enabling them to support their children’s and grandchildren’s reading, and so transfers the benefits to the next generation.

There are currently 80 affiliated Read Easy groups across England, together involving more than a thousand volunteers. Read Easy UK is the registered charity and umbrella organisation which supports this network of affiliated volunteer groups and provides the structure, training and support to enable volunteers to establish groups in new areas.

As our North Regional Adviser, your role would be to provide strategic leadership, guidance, and oversight to ensure that all volunteer groups in your region consistently deliver high-quality services aligned with Read Easy UK’s strategy.

You will support local volunteer leaders to strengthen group performance, and foster collaboration across affiliated groups, so that that they deliver coaching to Readers with consistent quality, and a positive and worthwhile experience is had by all.

You will also find volunteers to ‘pioneer’ four new groups in the counties where there is no Read Easy presence and provide them and our 17 existing groups and pioneers in the region, with high-quality support. Your quality support will ensure that they provide the same for their volunteers and new Readers. From meeting (mostly online) with Team Leaders to provide one to one support, and hosting online and annual in-person volunteer forums, to delivering presentations and occasional training for small groups of volunteers, this is a dynamic and rewarding role.

This is a home-based post requiring flexibility, some early evening working and occasional travel to visit groups. The role is available on a part time basis (22.5 hours p/w, 60% of 37.5 hours p/w FTE).

The successful candidate will be expected to:

• Live within one of the following areas: York, South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire or Greater Manchester (Due to the location of our groups in the region, and to ensure efficient travel);
• have been employed to work with volunteers for at least two years;

Role outline and purpose

The Senior Individual Giving Manager is responsible for driving forward our Individual Giving Programme, engaging and recruiting supporters across cash, regular giving, and legacy to Trussell through compelling direct marketing activity and stewardship communications across a range of online and offline channels.  Responsible for leading on our major appeals, this role sits within a team of fundraising experts and works collaboratively with colleagues across the Together with Trussell programme to create integrated and powerful fundraising campaigns, working to retain and uplift supporters over time to enhance their lifetime value.

This role is part of the Together with Trussell programme, the goal of which is to build stronger connections with our supporters, partners and donors in order to increase funding, campaigning, and other forms of support for our work.  As a member of an enabling programme, this role is focused on the successful delivery of the Together with Trussell programme outcomes, which underpin and enable the outcomes of our 5 external programmes – together contributing to the fulfilment of our long term vision of a UK without the need for food banks.

Role responsibilities

· Working with the Head of Individual Giving and key stakeholders from across the Together with Trussell programme team, to proactively plan a programme of integrated activities to engage and attract new supporters to Trussel, growing our supporter base and our long-term organisational income.

· To implement that plan across a range of integrated offline and online direct marketing channels.

· Own acquisition KPIs around new cash and RG donors, including mid value recruitment; and legacy lead generation.

· Ensuring that all activity is based within and optimised through high quality marketing and audience insight along with performance data and tracking.  To ensure all new supporters are effectively welcomed to the organisation through strong on-boarding journeys and then subsequently and seamlessly stewarded.

We are seeking a Supporter Engagement Lead to play a central role in building strong, lasting relationships with supporters, ensuring every interaction reflects care, transparency, and impact.

You'll act as the first point of contact for supporters, delivering excellent supporter care through phone, email, and post. Managing all aspects of legacy administration and liaising with families and solicitors, you'll ensure exceptional supporter care throughout. You'll support the delivery of individual giving programmes including welcome packs and annual thanking, while creating and developing stewardship initiatives for key supporter groups such as Old Fegans and Spurgeons Scholars.

Working collaboratively with the Marketing Team and internal stakeholders, you'll create and deliver engaging supporter communications including monthly emails, magazines, and prayer resources to inspire loyalty and long-term giving. You'll also develop and deliver an engaging community fundraising programme, create and manage a suite of challenge events designed to attract new donors, and plan year-round conferences and events (both in-person and online) to promote Spurgeons' work and drive engagement from individuals and churches.

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate:

• Proven experience delivering excellent supporter or customer care, including handling enquiries and building relationships
• Experience managing fundraising administration processes such as donation handling, Gift Aid, and legacy administration
• Track record of planning and delivering successful events (in-person and online) for engagement or fundraising purposes
• Excellent written and verbal communication, able to produce compelling content and engage supporters

By month 3, you'll have gained a full understanding of Spurgeons' supporter engagement strategy and successfully delivered at least one monthly supporter email. By month 6, you'll have launched at least one community fundraising initiative and one challenge event. By month 12, you'll have delivered a fully developed stewardship programme and achieved measurable improvements in supporter satisfaction and retention.

As a member of the fundraising management team, you'll contribute to shaping and delivering the Fundraising and Engagement strategy while providing leadership and development for the Supporter Engagement Lead. You'll lead the implementation of Individual Giving and Church Engagement strategies to achieve agreed KPIs for income growth and supporter retention, while managing operational delivery of fundraising processes including supporter-centric donation platforms, thanking, banking, and Gift Aid compliance.

Working in collaboration with the wider team and marketing manager, you'll develop and deliver an annual programme of donor acquisition campaigns and donor-led appeals. You'll build and grow the Spurgeons Church Network, oversee the creation of resources and organisation of events to equip churches for prayer, giving, and community engagement, and research church denominations and networks to inform engagement activities. Managing budgets and reporting for individual and church engagement activity, you'll ensure cost-effective delivery and clear ROI.

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate:

• Track record in fundraising and supporter engagement, delivering measurable income and retention growth
• Experience developing and implementing fundraising strategies, donor journeys and stewardship programmes
• Managing campaigns and appeals from planning to evaluation, using CRM systems to track KPIs and donor trends
• Strong understanding of individual giving, donor acquisition, retention and stewardship.

By month 3, you'll have audited current Individual Giving and Church engagement processes, delivered your first supporter email, and developed a 12-month roadmap for Individual Giving, Church engagement, and events. By month 6, you'll have launched the annual Christmas appeal and one community fundraising initiative, developed the regular giving programme and church engagement resources, and presented a 6-month review with data-driven recommendations. By month 12, you'll have fully embedded Individual Giving and Church engagement strategies, achieved agreed KPIs for income growth, and demonstrated improved donor retention through metrics.

About the role

As Co-operative Development Officer, you will support the delivery of the organisation’s growth strategy by helping to plan and deliver events, business support programmes and partnership activities. Working closely with the Co-operative Development Team, you will help raise awareness of the co-operative model and support new and existing co-operatives to thrive.

Key responsibilities

Events and outreach

• Deliver small-scale online and in-person events, managing logistics such as venues, digital platforms and catering.

• Work with communications teams to support promotional activity, including newsletters and email campaigns.
• Track event metrics, gather feedback and prepare reports.
