About the role

We are seeking a technically capable, qualified accountant with strong knowledge of the Charities SORP to provide effective stewardship and oversight of the Finance function at Kinship. You will be responsible for financial controls, management accounting and ensuring the effective delivery of ‘business as usual’ financial management.

As well as producing monthly management accounts, you will be responsible for running the annual budget and the year-end processes, preparing for the yearly external audit and ensuring that the organisation complies with statutory obligations.

You will prepare papers for and attend the quarterly Finance Committee meetings and will liaise with a range of stakeholders including auditors, the bank and investment managers.  You will be the ‘go to’ business partner at the charity, supported by the Chief Operating Officer and Fractional Chief Financial Officer.

You will manage a team of two colleagues – a Senior Finance Officer and a Payroll Manager – providing them with guidance, coaching and support to enable them to perform effectively. You will also collaborate and work with Directors and senior managers across the organisation to inform them on performance against budget and conditions of funding, as well as supporting fundraising and commissioning bids. 

You will have excellent communication skills and will be able to organise conflicting priorities around the monthly management accounts cycle, while supporting the achievement of our strategic objectives. You will be flexible and adaptable in your approach to supporting transformational change in our processes and systems, as well as dealing with, and leading on, the day-to-day financial management. 

This is a broad and challenging role for a dynamic and systems-driven individual who wants to grow within the organisation, proactively problem solve and help colleagues to deliver on our mission.

Essential requirements include:

• Fully qualified ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent
• In-depth understanding of accounting principles, standards and the Charities SORP, and experience of applying these in a service delivery organisation
• Experience managing a Finance function in a charity with £1-10m annual turnover
• Experience of line management and developing a team using approaches that are empowering
• Experience of Business Central, or the ability to quickly learn a new accounting system
• Excellent Microsoft Excel skills with the ability to use Pivot Tables and other functions to analyse large data sets

This is an exciting opportunity for experienced tutors with a love of learning to help bright students overcome barriers to academic achievement. Tutorials are delivered online to groups of up to 4 students via our bespoke online learning platform.

Tutorials generally take place between the hours of 3pm and 8pm on weekday evenings, with flexibility around the schedules of our tutors and students.

• Lead weekly hour-long tutorials with your tutor group(s), via The Access Project’s online learning platform 
• Responsively plan and deliver stimulating, high quality tuition in line with our Quality Assurance Framework
• Effectively monitor and assess student progress, providing feedback when requested
• Complete weekly attendance forms, supply monthly invoices, and complete other administrative duties as required

Person Specification

• At least two years A level teaching and/or tutoring experience

UK-Med is an NGO providing emergency health support in times of crisis and humanitarian emergencies. We provide clinical support, as well as training and capacity building for health professionals around the world, with particular focus on countries vulnerable to natural disasters, outbreaks or with weakened health systems due to complex emergencies. As the principal partner of the UK Emergency Medical Team (UK EMT), we work closely with FCDO and the WHO, but we are also growing our own programmes. Our work has never been more vital, with disease outbreaks and disasters becoming more frequent, complex and severe.

Following a period of considerable growth in size and complexity of UK-Med’s capacity building portfolio we are seeking an experienced humanitarian leader to join our team in this pivotal role. Our portfolio continues to grow at pace with current priorities and projects covering training and preparation of emergency response staff, developing and consolidating our simulation exercise capability, piloting remote capacity building and TeleHealth, partnering with peer Emergency Medical Teams for capacity building and supporting university programmes.

The Deputy Director of Capacity Building will work with key internal and external stakeholders on successfully delivering UK-Med’s capacity building portfolio, develop and implement effective systems and procedures for training delivery and monitoring, and lead a team of talented training and capacity building professionals from various backgrounds. Are you a passionate fundraiser looking for an opportunity to step into a Senior Fundraising Officer role? We’re thrilled to be working with the amazing Lifelites, a charity dedicated to transforming the lives of children with life-limiting conditions as they look for a driven Senior Engagement and Fundraising Officer to join their team.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in developing and delivering high-quality supporter engagement strategies, with a particular focus on corporates, membership organisations (including Freemasonry), and special interest groups. You’ll lead on stewarding existing supporters, creating meaningful partnerships, and securing new opportunities for income generation and brand visibility across the southern half of England and Wales.

To be successful in the role of Senior Engagement and Fundraising Officer, you will need:

• Proven experience in managing and developing successful fundraising or partnership relationships with individuals, community groups, or corporates.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and presentation delivery.
• A track record of delivering stewardship programmes that encourage repeat giving and long-term engagement.

The Role

This is an exciting new role in a newly created team, formed to acquire strategic corporate partnerships and community connections. Main responsibilities will include:

• Developing a robust pipeline of future support focussing on high value relationships.
• Delivering engagement strategies and products to enhance the conversion rate of your pipeline.
• Developing and delivering a relationship stewardship plan for all corporate partners.
• Delivering an individual income target.
• Tracking and monitoring income and pipeline values to support with forecasting and budgeting.

The Person

We are looking for a confident and enthusiastic person with excellent communication and relationship building skills. You should be excited by the prospect of building a new pipeline and portfolio of corporate partners and be confident stewarding relationships in this space. 

You must be able to work flexibly to maximise opportunities across Scotland, and have the initiative and ability to work with autonomy. Previous experience in fundraising is desirable; however, we are also keen to speak with people who also have the knowledge and experience in building relationships and are keen to transfer this skillset into the rewarding world of fundraising!

Join our small and friendly team, working remotely, this summer as a chance to experience working in an edtech environment and use your mathematical skills. We are looking to appoint an intern to support our work over the summer period (including September) across a range of organisational functions. 

Summer is an important period for us: teachers and students are on holiday, so it’s a chance to plan and prepare for the year ahead, particularly ahead of our busiest time for subscription and account setup in September. We are therefore looking for an intern to work across three areas:

1. Quality assurance (QA) across our question answering functionality. Our coders have developed thousands of question generators that need to be tested to ensure they work as intended; we also upload real GCSE and A level questions that need to maintain fidelity to the real thing while being translated into an online environment. You’ll be testing these questions, finding ways to break them, working out where equivalents don’t work when they should - or shouldn’t - using your mathematical knowledge in a unique way.

2. Customer support. We receive around a dozen emails to our support inbox each day from teachers and students who need help with account management and users who’ve spotted something that’s broken. We’re seeking someone who can efficiently problem solve account issues and act as a detective: working out how to replicate an issue a user is having, effectively document it, and pass it onto our devs to fix.

3. Social media administration. Jamie might be the face of our social media channels it couldn’t happen without support around the edges. That includes captioning/transcription, adding titles and descriptions, and using our site tooling to link videos to our platform. Some of this is routine, but some requires judgement and social media nous, like deciding on what makes for an effective caption.

Beyond these duties, we intend on making the most of the appointee’s strengths to delve deeper into at least one of these areas with dedicated projects to be presented to the management team. That might be presenting a big-picture vision of how we can increase fidelity to real exam questions in an online environment, or experimenting with AI supportdesk tools to respond to queries, or designing a social media content strategy that aligns with our goals – all areas that aren’t urgent to fix, but have high potential to make a difference. We know we can always learn and improve, and hugely value the insight of fresh pairs of eyes. Our ideal candidate will be keen to get stuck into these challenges and relish the experience to work with a wide range of our team members.

Core working week is Monday to Friday 8.00am – 4.00pm, 37.5 hours per week, excluding Bank Holidays with requirement to work sometimes outside of core hours and at weekends, nights and bank holidays • Provide core maintenance service for the Association, including planned projects, reactive maintenance, cyclical and preventative repairs, administration and any ad-hoc tasks as arising • Responsible for the health & safety of any task being carried out and to make sure that the plant, equipment, or machinery is compliant with all legislation • Tasks to cover a wide range of technical and maintenance skills, including painting, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, grounds work and general building work and other work as appropriate, depending upon skills and qualifications required to achieve the task • To provide out of hours support on an on-call rota basis • Maintaining plant, spares and equipment across a range of Association sites. Ensure asset lists are updated with live information • Carry out site inspections & audits to ensure Health & Safety/Compliance & quality/standards are met • Carry out internal works to void properties. Inclusive but not limited to painting, minor repairs, plumbing and void safety checks. • To liaise with, staff, and residents as required, to carry out any maintenance tasks ensuring high levels of customer service • To liaise with and ensure performance of external contractors • Carry out allocation & scheduling of work tasks to staff and external contractors. Produce detailed specifications through to quotation. • Review when required - reports, quotations & recommendations from external consultants/contractors, and advise/ liaise with Property Manager on best value • Ensure ways of working, processes, policies and procedures are understood and followed • Review & monitor external reports such as lifts, Legionella, Asbestos and plant room inspections and liaise with Property manager on recommendations and appropriate actions • To provide cover and advice for Facilities Assistants/maintenance staff when and if required • On a rota basis you may be required to be the Property contact for a given period as agreed by line manager • Any administration duties as required by your Line Manager • Any other reasonable duties as required by your line manager. Responsibilities of our Retail Development Manager:

As Retail Development Manager you will assume responsibility for the project design and delivery of a focused programme of operational excellence in our Retail estate, developing improvements reflective of Charity Retail sector best practice, including but not limited to:

-a sector leading Shop Operations Manual and connected assets, policies and procedures, with operational optimisation and simplification of process as core tenets

-working with our Brand & Marketing, Property and Operations colleagues on our internal rebrand proposition, including our boutique and future large store formats

-working with Learning & Development and People colleagues to inform our Retail Performance Framework learning resources

-supporting Retail, Property and People colleagues on the delivery of our future large store format openings

-working with Fleet, Brand & Marketing and Finance colleagues to evaluate current fleet resources, route planning effectiveness and ROI, and options for a future fleet solution

• The Retail Development Manager will play a strategic role in the Retail Leadership and Management Team and contribute to the overall strategic direction of the Retail and Trading operation.

About the Retail & Trading team:   

• The Retail and Trading department sits within the Marketing and Income Generation Directorate and comprises a diverse shop estate of 79 shops across England, Scotland and Wales and a growing ecommerce operation.
• Our operation plays a key role in generating income and introducing audiences to Cats Protection.

What we’re looking for in our Retail Development Manager:

• Extensive experience of charity retail operations, sector best practice and benchmarking
• Extensive experience of project management frameworks and operations, and able to evidence project delivery excellence
• Experience of strategic planning, change management and leadership
• Experience of setting and managing budget
• Hands on experience of managing new store openings
• Full, valid UK driving licence, and access to a vehicle to travel regularly across the Retail estate
