1. Introduction

The Parish of St Mary’s and St James, located in NW6, London, is seeking to appoint an experienced fundraising professional to develop a comprehensive fundraising strategy and bid-writing template to support essential large scale capital repair projects at both church buildings.

The appointed consultant will produce a clear, actionable, and sustainable fundraising plan that draws on multiple funding streams — including grants, partnerships, individual giving, digital fundraising, and community events — while ensuring both projects progress cohesively and without internal competition for resources.

2. Project Background

The parish comprises two Grade II listed churches, both of which are active places of worship and important community landmarks within West Hampstead and South Hampstead.

St Mary’s Church

St Mary’s is a Grade II listed building, constructed in 1856-1862, and currently listed on the Historic England “At Risk” Register. The church requires urgent repair works to its spire, estimated at £1.5 million, alongside further essential maintenance identified in the quinquennial inspection. As a historic and much-loved building, St Mary’s preservation is a key priority for the parish and local community.

St James Church

Built in 1887–8 and designed by A.W. Blomfield, St James Church is also Grade II listed. The large red-brick structure, with steeply pitched tiled roofs and Bath stone dressings, is a notable local landmark and the only listed building within the South Hampstead Conservation Area. Camden Council’s Conservation Area Appraisal describes it as “a very important part of the quality and character of the area.”

St James is recognised nationally as a model of how historic churches can be adapted for sustainable use. Reopened in 2014 as The Sherriff Centre, it combines traditional worship with a thriving community and social enterprise hub — including a Post Office, soft play centre, café, retail space, and event venue.

St James now faces essential capital repairs to its roof, guttering, and masonry, as identified by its quinquennial inspection.

Fundraising Objective

Although St Mary’s and St James are distinct buildings, the parish seeks a single, unified fundraising strategy that will enable both capital projects to move forward in tandem, sharing messaging and timelines to avoid competition for funding opportunities.

3. Scope of Work

The consultant will produce a detailed and actionable fundraising strategy and a skeleton bid-writing template to support the parish in delivering its capital repair objectives.

A. Fundraising Strategy

The strategy should cover five core fundraising areas, each with specific recommendations, timelines, and success measures:

1. Grant Applications to Trusts and Foundations
   • Identification of suitable capital funders, including National Lottery Heritage programmes and major charitable trusts.
2. Corporate Partnerships
   • Identification of potential local business partners with corporate social responsibility programmes.
3. Individual Giving
   • Recommendations for regular giving schemes, major donor cultivation, and legacy giving programmes.
4. Digital Fundraising
   • Plans for social media campaigns, crowdfunding, and email marketing.
   • Recommendations for digital platforms, messaging, and performance tracking.
5. Community Fundraising Events
   • Framework for community-focused events to engage local audiences and raise funds.

B. Skeleton Bid Template

An editable bid-writing template will be created to assist the parish with future applications. This will include:

• Core content sections (e.g., project summary, need, impact, budget, sustainability).
• Example text and guidance notes.
• Style and structure recommendations for clarity and professionalism.

4. Deliverables

• Comprehensive Fundraising Strategy Document covering both churches.
• Action Plan with timelines and priority recommendations.
• Skeleton Bid Template

5. Experience and Expertise

The appointed consultant should demonstrate:

• Proven success in fundraising for capital projects involving heritage buildings, ideally churches or places of worship.
• Experience in heritage and conservation funding, including the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
• Demonstrable ability to develop multi-strand fundraising strategies integrating grants, individuals, corporate, and community income.
• Excellent bid writing and stakeholder engagement skills.

About the Role

As Finance Manager, you’ll oversee the day-to-day finance functions of the organisation, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance across all financial activities.

You’ll also collaborate closely with the Director of Finance and Resources to strengthen financial systems and prepare for future growth — including line management of a new Finance Officer from April 2026.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage all day-to-day finance functions and month-end processes.

About You

You’ll bring:

• AAT qualification (or equivalent), or qualified by experience.

• Proficiency in Xero and Microsoft Office 365 (especially Excel).
• Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and time management.
• A proactive and organised approach.
• Experience of managing people and building collaborative relationships with stakeholders internally and externally.

Summary

The Church of England is continually striving to improve its safeguarding practices. The 2020 report by IICSA on the Church highlighted failures in respect of child sexual abuse and, more broadly, the challenges facing the Church to get safeguarding right.

The Church's aspiration is that safeguarding is not experienced and approached as a matter of administrative compliance. Rather, it should be what the Church is - something that flows from its core beliefs and values, part of its DNA.

The Church has made important and positive strides over recent years. There is, however, still much to be done to keep children and vulnerable adults safe, and to promote their well-being.

The Church is a complex collection of different bodies. Most of the safeguarding work is carried out locally within the 42 dioceses and cathedrals in England. This work is supported centrally by a National Safeguarding Team (NST).

Every diocese employs a Diocesan Safeguarding Officer (DSO)*. Many also employ Assistant Diocesan Safeguarding Officers (ADSOs). DSOs take the lead on safeguarding matters for the diocese - particularly the management of allegations of abuse by Church Officers**. Some cathedrals employ a Cathedral Safeguarding Officer (CSO) or have an agreement with their diocese for the DSO to take the lead on safeguarding operational matters.

In response to the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA) in the Anglican Church, published in October 2020, a regional model was piloted as a means of delivering Recommendation 1. Since the pilot concluded in March 2024, approval has been granted to implement the model across England and this work will begin from September 2024. Recruitment to these additional Regional Safeguarding Lead posts will enable the National Safeguarding Team to deliver IICSA Recommendation 1.

As Project Support Officer, you will play a key role in supporting the development and implementation of national safeguarding policy across the Church of England. Working closely with senior colleagues, you will assist in coordinating policy projects, tracking progress through governance processes, and ensuring effective communication with stakeholders. You will also spearhead the delivery of two new, vital programmes of work - supporting the wellbeing and professional development of the hospice workforce, and improving access to quality hospice care for people experiencing socio-economic disadvantage.

Perhaps you’re working in the charity and/or healthcare sector already, or you might bring senior programme management experience from other fields. 

Either way, you’ll become part of a close, 17-strong Programmes Team at Hospice UK. We work together and alongside external experts, to design and deliver evidence-based programmes, projects and events, which help hospices provide the very best care in their communities.

About This Role

We are looking for an exceptional Volunteer Manager to lead and nurture our London volunteer community, which is made up of almost 400 volunteers. This role is key to ensuring every volunteer feels valued, supported, and inspired to give their best in helping women succeed in their employment journeys.

You will be responsible for the full volunteer journey – from recruitment, induction, and training through to ongoing engagement and recognition. You’ll work closely with colleagues across the London centres and the wider Smart Works network to ensure our volunteer community remains strong, inclusive, and aligned with our values.

The role would be based across all three London centres (Islington, Ladbroke Grove and Croydon), and there will be occasional evening and weekend work, for which time off in lieu is given.

The successful candidate will build strong working relations with our staff team and volunteers, as well as the teams across Smart Works centres in the UK. In this role you will help to deliver the Clean Air Fund’s mission through high quality strategic and operational support to the Super Pollutant team’s strategy, research and other core work areas – especially focusing on the impact of super pollutants on health. At Ambitious about Autism, we're currently looking for a Corporate Partnerships Manager to join our team.

You'll drive corporate income and partnerships through a combination of first-in-class account management and identifying, and securing, new business opportunities. You will develop creative packages for support, drawing opportunities together across employee fundraising, branding, volunteering and pro bono, to attract support from new sectors and deepen existing relationships.

You'll work across both new business and account management, managing existing corporate partnerships to deliver exceptional stewardship and maximising on opportunities to meet, or exceed, income targets, whilst also identifying new opportunities through a combination of Charity of the Year, strategic, brand and multi-year relationships.

We are looking for someone who has:

• Significant and demonstrable experience of managing a high value (ideally six figure) corporate partnerships
• Good, demonstrable knowledge of commercial sector and how to access decision makers
• Understanding and experience of Charity of the Year, brand and strategic partnerships
• Demonstrable experience of supporter relationship management to aid retention, maximise income and secure repeat business

Battersea is entering an exciting phase of innovation and transformation as we embark on the first year of our new five-year strategy. With increased investment in income generation starting in 2025, we are expanding our team to drive the growth necessary to achieve our organisational goals. Our fundraising team bridges the journey of the animals in our care with the wider public, demonstrating how their contributions enable us to support every dog and cat. We now have several new roles within this team to further our mission. 

This is a new role working within Battersea’s Income Generation department to develop and deliver the campaign plan for a £4-6million pound capital fundraising appeal.
One of the key pillars of Battersea’s current strategy is to ensure that we continue to provide expert care for all the dogs and cats that come through our gates. One of the ways in which we do this is by investing in our facilities to ensure that they continue to meet the changing needs of the animals we care for. This fundraising campaign will help to achieve that aim.

You will work with teams across Battersea to develop a comprehensive plan for the campaign and co-ordinate the work of multiple specialist teams to deliver the campaign on a day-to-day basis. You will also be responsible for developing a clear governance structure for the campaign, and ensuring all stakeholders are kept informed of progress. You will also oversee and track progress of a series of internal process improvements that support the running of the campaign.

Please note, this is not a direct fundraising position, but will support our fundraising teams in delivering ambitious financial targets for the appeal.

Friendship, an NGO based in Bangladesh, is a social purpose organisation of over 8,000 people, giving direct services to more than 7.5 million of the poorest people annually. It has delivered over 24 million healthcare services and 8.3 million days’ worth of emergency food support, and gives over 80,000 people daily access to safe drinking water in coastal areas. Friendship was recently awarded the prestigious 2025 Earthshot Prize, founded by HRH Prince William, in the “Fix Our Climate” category.

Friendship International UK was established as a CIO in 2020, having previously been active as a Trust since 2010. Its objectives include the prevention and relief of poverty, the advancement of education as well as the prevention and relief of sickness and the advancement and preservation of health. 

Job overview

Remuneration: day rate £250-350 for 8 hours depending on experience, anticipated 4-5 days per month.

Reporting to: Chair of Trustees, on a day-to-day basis through the Head of Partnership Development who is based in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Contract: The initial contract is for 6 months with potential extension up to 2 years on meeting key fundraising targets.

Role description

The Fundraising/Partnership Development Officer will

· Manage the development and implementation of Friendship’s fundraising, partnership development, and partnership management activities in the UK

· Build a fundraising strategy that incorporates a range of activities and income streams, together with the Friendship International UK Board

· Develop a concrete action plan and core indicators or targets for fundraising in the UK on quarterly basis, which is to be presented to the Friendship International UK Board.

· Foster relationships with supporters, groups and organisations that fund or have the potential to fund Friendship International UK and be the first point of contact,

· Update the UK section of Friendship’s website with information related to fundraising and other information

· Manage social media platforms with information relating to fundraising activity

· Contribute to the work of the Friendship International UK Board, reporting to the Board and attending meetings as needed

· Maintain coordination with Friendship in Bangladesh for the development and finalization of documents, budgets, reports, etc. for submitting to existing and potential donors and partners.

Person specification

Essential

· Have good experience working with CSR funds, grant-making trusts, institutional funders based in the UK, and foundations and high net worth individuals.

· Demonstrate initiative and positive ROI in generating funds.

· Be able to follow up fundraising opportunities independently.

· Be able to follow up, finalize, and submit donor required narrative and financial reports, in close collaboration with the team in Bangladesh.

· Be friendly and personable and able to build strong working relationships with a range of people, including the team in Bangladesh.

· Be reliable, organised and efficient, capable of multi-tasking and reacting to changing priorities.

· Have good communication and writing skills.

· Be located within commuting distance of the City of London; willing and able to travel for occasional meetings and events.

Desirable/Useful

· Experience working with website administration

· Experience in producing social media content

•  Our full time hours are 35 hours per week, but we are passionate about flexible working - talk to us about your preferences. Due to the nature of our work, regular weekend working will be required with time off in lieu given.

• Hybrid working: Meeting in person and working collaboratively are things we value. This is a Home based Contract, linked to our Ewell (Surrey) office with a blend of home working and significant travel throughout the Region. The post holder will be a key member of the Philanthropy Team and be responsible for raising capital and revenue funds from individual donors to an ambitious annual target. 

As Philanthropy Lead, you will support the existing Building Hope national campaign and future national, regional and centre campaigns, focusing on aligning prospects and donors with Maggie’s strategic aims.  

You will ensure the effective, long-term cultivation of prospects identified through volunteer leadership networks, existing networks of warm supporters, and prospect research. 

You will also be able to identify opportunities for a programme of engagement events designed to discover, cultivate and steward prospects and donors.
