Job description

Job Title: Project Worker (Maternity cover)

Reports to: Service Manager

Hours:  22.5hrs p/week - Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday fixed, 0.6 Full Time Equivalent (FTE).

Location: Edmonton, Enfield

Contract: 12-month fixed term maternity cover with possibility for extension

Salary: 22.5 hours per week - £17’100 per annum

This role is a part time role, 3 days per week. The role has a full-time equivalent salary of £28’500 for a 37.5 hour working week. The salary banding for this role is £28’500 - £31’500 full time. It has a starting salary of £28’500 (pro-rata, as above)

The role:

This role will predominantly be working from our Day Centre but will also include work with night shelter clients.

Within the Day Centre you will be required to provide advice and advocacy and casework to people who are homeless and at risk of homelessness and maintain a caseload of clients working within a fast paced and dynamic small team. You will support the smooth running of the day centre provision and have a commitment to supporting vulnerable clients in a person-centred way.

To be successful in this role will require a keen interest in homelessness and the devastating impact this can have on people. This role is suited to someone with a problem solving, positive attitude, who is passionate about supporting marginalised people.

Key responsibilities

Service Operations:

· Maintaining a warm, safe and welcoming environment for clients in the day centre 

· Where necessary, supporting clients to access primary services offered such as showers, laundry and food provision 

· Ensuring that the service is clean, the building is maintained and complies with H&S regulations

· Reporting repairs and H&S issues in a timely fashion and as they arise 

· Supporting volunteers to assist the running of the day centre

Client assessment & casework:

· Carrying out triage and initial needs assessments for new clients – identifying presenting and underlying issues   

· Supporting clients to understand their housing situation and navigate services to resolve their issues 

· Providing high quality housing-related advocacy and support to clients, helping them to address their housing needs 

· Working with clients to gather evidence and source documents to support their case in regard to immigration, housing, welfare rights or other related support need

· Managing a caseload of clients with differing needs, including substance misuse, mental health, physical health, language barriers and difficulty engaging

· Managing a caseload of clients with differing and complex needs

· Supporting clients to attend in-person appointments 

External relationships:

· Maintaining positive and collaborative relationships with relevant housing options and assistance teams across Enfield and Haringey councils  

· Working collaboratively with local services, identifying appropriate support to meet clients’ wider needs. Making referrals and signposting clients as necessary 

· Liaising with local outreach teams and other organisations referring clients into the day centre  

· Maintaining a positive and professional relationship with voluntary and statutory partners

Administration, casework notes and monitoring:

· Keeping detailed and accurate administrative records including client notes, a daily log and writing incident reports when required   

· Maintaining accurate record keeping and monitoring information and keeping detailed case notes

· Uphold safeguarding responsibilities in regard to staff, volunteers and clients

Additional responsibilities: 

· Alongside the Services Manager, support the wider development of the day centre and organisation  

· Supporting with producing content for social media, including videos of the day centre and client case studies 

· On occasion, to take part in late-night outreach sessions alongside other staff or partners, within the local area 

· To undertake reasonable tasks as requested to support the organisation as a whole.

Key skills and experience required:

· An understanding of the needs and support requirements of vulnerable clients and those who may present with challenging behaviour, including those with mental health issues and/or substance dependency problems   

· Ability to work flexibly with clients who may have a history of non or low engagement with services in a way that motivates and empowers them

· Understanding of the complex and multiple causes of homelessness

· Understanding of, or a willingness to learn about, housing legislation and local implementation

· A high level of written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to advocate for clients

· Ability to keep accurate and up to date records and manage monitoring information

Who are we looking for?

· Good administrative skills including good computing skills and the ability to use I.T. applications and data entry.  

· Understanding of key safeguarding issues and processes

· Ability to work effectively on own initiative 

· Ability to manage competing demands, prioritising appropriately 

· Positive and team focused approach to work 

· Willingness to work across the organisation as required 

· An understanding of some of the issues faced by clients with no recourse to public funds (NRPF)

· Ability and willingness to work in line with the mission and ethos of All People All Places
