About the role
We are recruiting for a Senior Research Manager to join on a full-time, permanent contract working 35 hours per week. This is a home-based role, with occasional travel required for conferences, events and in-person stakeholder or team meetings.

As Senior Research Manager, you will lead our Research Grants & Involvement team, creating an environment where people feel supported, empowered and able to contribute their best work. In doing so, you will contribute to the development and delivery of our ambitious research strategy, ensuring that our research funding programme supports the highest quality dementia research, informed at every stage by those with lived experience.

You will lead a collaborative and purpose-driven team, working at the forefront of research that has the potential to transform lives. This is a highly visible and strategic role providing expert input across all aspects of dementia research, including our own funding portfolio, to contribute towards our organisational priorities.

You will use your knowledge of the dementia research landscape to identify emerging trends and opportunities and shape our research funding programme. Using your extensive experience in grants management, you will ensure that our funding schemes meet the needs of the dementia research community, that our processes align with best practice and ultimately, that the research we support achieves meaningful outcomes for those affected by dementia.

About you
Joining us, you’ll possess relevant experience or education qualification in a relevant biomedical or health discipline, with extensive experience in research grants management, ideally in a medical research charity or similar funding organisation.

To be successful in this role, you’ll need to have good knowledge of the UK research funding landscape and research ecosystem, ideally in dementia. You’ll also have experience of embedding or supporting public involvement in research, or working in a co-production environment.

Crucially, you’ll have experience leading, managing and developing high-performing teams. You’ll also be a good communicator, able to work strategically with senior stakeholders, build relationships, influence and negotiate with them.

What you’ll focus on:

- Contributing to shaping Alzheimer’s Society’s research strategy, defining priority research themes aligned with our overarching organisational strategy.
- Acting as a trusted senior expert on dementia research internally, using horizon scanning and in-depth knowledge of Alzheimer’s Society’s funding portfolio.
- Working collaboratively to support the identification of funding gaps and new opportunities and partnerships, leading the development of future funding initiatives aligned with Alzheimer's Society’s research strategy.
- Overseeing the delivery and continuous improvement of research grant operations, ensuring that processes maintain the highest standards and reflect sector best practice, working closely with the Research Grants Manager.

At present, Healthcare Services is a small team with two physiotherapists and one doctor (specialist GP), with plans to recruit more.

Qualifications

Working closely with the prison and their staff, people in prison, Shannon Trust volunteers and mentors, this post will lead the delivery and development of our prison-based reading and numeracy programme, maximising opportunities for people in prison to learn to read.  
 
Ideally you will have some experience of prison settings underpinned by the ability to build relationships and personal qualities that include resilience, determination and a problem-solving approach. 
 
This role is a fixed term role until 31st March 2027 with the opportunity to be made permanent subject to contract renewal.
 
The role will be prison-based. Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• Act as the primary team member for managing and developing a comprehensive lapsed donor programme across PETA and other PETA entities
• Coordinate the direct marketing appeal delivery and selected appeals, including research, briefing, data selection, supplier liaison, and proofreading by using AI-supported tools
• Build and maintain integrated project schedules, ensuring all suppliers and colleagues are informed of timelines and deadlines
• Collaborate with print suppliers to identify cost-saving opportunities and share creative ideas early in the briefing process
• Liaise with the online team to strategically support mail appeals through coordinated email and social media campaigns
• Process invoices in line with agreed budgets and produce appeal cost reports
• Coordinate file storage and archival
• Analyse appeal data and response rates to generate insights and propose innovative, data-driven appeal ideas
• Development of non-specific appeal ideas, exploring opportunities in channels like the Vegan City Guides and our various Newsletters
• Support the production of performance reports to aid in strategic decision-making
• Develop and manage the welcome programme, with a strategic focus on improving long-term donor retention
• Proactively explore ways to use AI tools to improve efficiency, consistency, and speed in campaign delivery
• Build and maintain a comprehensive library of other charities' fundraising work across all channels
• Maintain campaign logs, departmental archives, and mailing samples
• Manage document storage and stock control
• Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
• Proficiency in using a CRM systems (experience with Raiser’s Edge is highly desirable)
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, analyse response rates, and translate findings into actionable recommendations
• Excellent organisational and project coordination skills with impeccable attention to detail
• Effective written and verbal communication skills, with experience in proofreading and briefing stakeholders
• Ability to prioritise a heavy workload, meet multiple deadlines, and work well under pressure
• A creative and innovative mindset with a passion for testing new ideas and strategies across different channels
• Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work with minimal supervision, and build effective relationships with internal teams and external suppliers
• Ability and willingness to work with AI tools, including ability to review, refine, and appropriately apply AI-generated outputs

This role is available full-time, but we welcome applications from those who would prefer to work part-time – at a minimum of 0.6FTE based on the requirements of the role. Our most senior Consulting Partners are currently paid from £100k to £125k, dependent on experience and potential for high performance.

About the Head of Safeguarding (CSO) Role

Canterbury Cathedral is seeking an experienced and values-led safeguarding professional to join the Cathedral.

This is a significant leadership role responsible for ensuring the Cathedral community provides a safe, welcoming and professionally accountable environment for children, young people, vulnerable adults, staff and volunteers.
 

Working closely with the Canon Missioner, Senior Leadership Team, Chapter and Cathedral Safeguarding Committee, the successful candidate will lead the development and embedding of safeguarding culture, policy, practice and assurance across the Cathedrals diverse and complex operational environment.
 

The postholder will act as the Cathedrals professional safeguarding lead and first point of contact for safeguarding concerns, ensuring practice is aligned with:

• Guidance issued by the Church of England National Safeguarding Team
• House of Bishops Practice Guidance and Codes of Practice

Key Responsibilities as Head of Safeguarding (CSO)
The Head of Safeguarding (CSO) will:

• Lead and promote a culture of safeguarding vigilance, accountability and shared responsibility
• Provide professional safeguarding advice and manage safeguarding concerns and casework in line with the Diocesan MOU.
• Develop, implement and review safeguarding policies and procedures
• Lead safeguarding audits, assurance activity and action planning
• Produce high-quality safeguarding reports for Chapter and Safeguarding Committee
• Oversee safeguarding training, DBS compliance and safer recruitment processes
• Work collaboratively with diocesan, statutory and national safeguarding partners

About You
We are looking for an individual who can demonstrate:

• Significant safeguarding experience within a statutory, education, health, probation, police, social care or equivalent environment
• Strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation, policy and best practice
• Experience managing complex safeguarding casework and risk management processes
• The ability to influence, challenge and build strong professional relationships at all levels within the Cathedral.
• Excellent communication, analytical and organisational skills
• A compassionate, trauma-informed and survivor-focused approach
• Professional integrity, resilience and sound judgement
• An understanding of safeguarding within complex organisations
• Experience of working with Senior Leadership Teams and Boards/Committee Members.

A relevant professional qualification and/or current professional registration is essential where applicable.

Experience of working within church or faith-based settings would be advantageous but is not essential.

The Volunteering Assistant supports the Head of Volunteering in delivering the organisation’s strategy by strengthening volunteer management, engagement, and development. Working across departments, the role ensures smooth day-to-day volunteering operations, supports both volunteers and role managers, and contributes to projects that enhance the overall volunteer experience.

Key responsibilities

• Provide administrative support to the volunteering function, including managing the volunteering inbox and maintaining accurate data
• Support volunteer recruitment, onboarding, and engagement activities across programmes 
• Assist role managers and volunteers, ensuring compliance with organisational standards and processes 
• Coordinate volunteer events, communications, and recognition initiatives
