Your role

The fundraising and communications group at CMS has ambitious goals and targets and you’ll play a key role in helping successfully deliver on these. As well as having a strong working knowledge of social media platforms, you will need to be able to create and edit video as well as other forms of compelling content.

Our unique Online Reading Volunteer programme currently supports around 3,600 children a year. About Planet Patrol

Our vision is a world where all beings can enjoy our waterways, free from pollution. We are a global community dedicated to placing people-powered environmental data at the heart of decision-making. Through our unique anywhere, anytime, anybody approach to citizen science, we gather critical evidence of water and litter pollution to drive solutions that protect both environmental and human health. Our data and citizen science methods have been featured in academic journals (Stanton, et al., 2022) and media investigations (Channel 4 and ITV), enhancing public and scientific knowledge of litter pollution. 

About the role

The Fundraising Lead (Corporate & Grants) will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of income generation for Planet Patrol, including the planning and delivery of our fundraising strategy; with a focus on corporates and grants. You will secure new partnerships and sponsorships, and develop high-value, multi-year commitments that align with both Planet Patrol’s priorities and our funders objectives. Whilst this role is fixed term, we hope to secure enough funding to make the role permanent.

Key Responsibilities

Fundraising & Relationship Building

• Meet and exceed the annual new funding target of £300k, whilst maintaining existing funding agreements.
• Secure sponsorship for at least three organisational priorities worth a minimum of £50k each.
• Write and submit innovative, engaging and impactful funding applications.
• Prospect new supporters and build long-term, high-value relationships.
• Quickly and efficiently respond to calls for proposals, maximising all opportunities..
• Work with colleagues across Planet Patrol to develop and deliver bespoke opportunities aligned with funder priorities.
• Host cultivation events and support other team members in engaging prospective sponsors.
• Ensure due diligence in line with Planet Patrol’s ethics and due diligence policies.

Strategic

• Lead on the development and delivery of Planet Patrol’s fundraising strategy, setting income targets and KPIs with the Director.
• Work closely with the Head of Programmes and Campaigns to develop exciting, innovative and impactful funding propositions. 
• Contribute to the wider Organisational strategy and annual Business Plan.
• Keep abreast of sector developments and funding opportunities to ensure plans are timely and effective.

Account Management

• Maximise our existing portfolio of corporate supporters, ensuring timely delivery of benefits, publicity and events.
• Oversee reporting to funders, sponsors and partners, demonstrating impact and value.
• Manage budgets within the fundraising portfolio and contribute to organisational efficiency and effectiveness.

Marketing & Communications

• Create compelling and innovative partnership opportunities for corporate supporters.
• Collaborate with colleagues to deliver sponsorship benefits and ensure accurate representation of sponsors across Planet Patrol platforms.
• Coordinate sponsor advertising and communications, with support from colleagues.
• Positively represent Planet Patrol at events and conferences.

Role requirements:

• A minimum three years working in a fast-paced, start-up environment.
• A demonstrated ability in securing funding worth five-and-six figures.
• Experience working remotely and making impactful relationships online.
• Be able to communicate effectively with senior corporate leaders.
• Experience in providing excellent stakeholder engagement, ideally through an integrated CRM.
• A natural networker and innovator, you’ll always be spotting opportunities.
• Excellent general IT skills and knowledge of new platforms to enable efficiency (Trello, Slack, HubSpot, Xero).

You’ll be helping businesses invest in the next generation of talent by connecting them with Outward Bound’s experiential learning programmes that accelerate personal growth, resilience, teamwork, and leadership in early careers cohorts. 

Your focus will be on building strong relationships, understanding workforce development needs, and positioning Outward Bound as the partner of choice for early talent development. 

Occasional evening, weekend, and overnight work will be required as part of the role, including attending client visits, taster sessions, and visits to our Outward Bound Centres.

YOUR EXPERIENCE

• Excellent communications skills and the ability to build strong working relationships with internal and external professionals.  A strong understanding of the apprenticeship and graduate development programmes, and talent pipelines. 

• Highly organised with excellent attention to detail, able to manage multiple projects and maintain consistent follow-up.

• Confident in presenting to clients, with the ability to tailor messages to different audiences (HR, L&D, operational teams, senior leadership). 

• Good negotiation and influencing skills. 

• Experienced in LinkedIn / LinkedIn Sales Navigator for prospecting and building connections within early careers networks. 

• Proficient in Microsoft systems and CRM tools.

 AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

• Secure mainly new and some key repeat business to meet personal, and team, quarterly and annual targets. 
• Lead on developing new partnerships within key industry sectors for Apprentice, Graduate, and Emerging Leader programmes. 
• Undertake client learning needs analysis to understand early career development goals and challenges. 
• Produce compelling proposals that align Outward Bound programmes with organisational objectives. 
• Represent Outward Bound at early careers events, conferences, and employer network sessions. 
• Maintain accurate client records via our CRM system and ensure timely follow-up and reporting.

About Chapter One

Chapter One is a small but growing charity, working to ensure that every child has 1:1 reading support at the time they need it most.

Our Early Literacy Intervention (ELI) programme provides daily, tailored 1:1, 7 minute phonics sessions for children who are behind in phonics. Using a bespoke technology tool that can be aligned to any school phonics scheme, a trained Early Reading Interventionist works individually with target children. We currently have ELIs working in 11 schools in London, East Sussex and the West Midlands, with plans to expand. Data from 2024-25 showed that children receiving ELI support had a phonics screen pass rate of 95% (10% above school cohort averages).

Chapter One also offers a unique Online Reading Volunteer programme which currently supports about 3,500 children a year. It pairs struggling five to seven-year old (KS1) readers with reading support volunteers who come from over 170 local and national businesses. The volunteer pledge is very focused: readers commit 30 minutes a week to read with a child using a bespoke digital platform for an entire academic year. About the role

Working 30 hours per week over 5 days, for 44 weeks a year, you will be responsible for the day-to-day running of our Early Literacy Intervention (ELI) programme in the UK. You will manage a team of part-time ELI practitioners, visiting them regularly in school to provide supervision, quality assurance and support. You will lead on the relationships with schools involved in the programme: organising and overseeing programme delivery; sharing regular data summaries and ensuring pupil progress. As the programme grows, you will also be responsible for the recruitment and training of new ELIs.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual who has recent experience of teaching and/or leading phonics with an excellent understanding of phonics pedagogy and the ability to train and develop our ELI practitioners. The successful candidate must be willing to travel to the schools we work with, initially in (but not limited to) London, East Sussex and the West Midlands.

Key Responsibilities
Staff management

• Lead and manage a team of Chapter One Early Literacy Interventionists (ELIs) to effectively deliver the Early Literacy intervention programme in schools.
• Visit ELIs in school regularly to provide supervision, quality assurance and support.
• Recruit, train and induct new ELI practitioners as required.
• Design and create training materials for new ELIs.
• Provide annual training for teachers who have pupils taking part in the programme.
• Conduct monthly supervision meetings and annual appraisals of ELI practitioners and clearly document these.
• Lead the fortnightly ELI meeting, supporting with any issues which may arise.

Programme delivery, school liaison and evaluation

• Ensure ELIs baseline each pupil when they begin and track pupil progress throughout the year.
• Proactively monitor session numbers in all schools and support ELIs to increase session numbers if necessary.
• Conduct termly data meetings with schools to share data trackers and ensure that schools are fully informed about pupil progress.
• Lead on the documentation of key processes and step by step guides for the ELI team and ensure that these processes are followed.
• Analyse pupil data both for ELI pupils and non-ELI pupils to produce reports and identify trends, sharing with the Evidence and Impact Manager as required.
• In collaboration with the Schools Development Manager, conduct annual renewal conversations with partner schools.

Platform development

• Be the first port of call for ELI practitioners for the operation of the Chapter One Early Literacy platform, escalating issues as necessary.
• Liaise with the platform development team to feedback on platform bugs and areas of improvement.
• Proactively identify new directions for the development of the platform, in line with the latest pedagogy and research on early reading, and liaise with the Product Manager and development teams as required.

General responsibilities

• Liaise with Managers in all other departments as required.
• Participate in business planning and objective setting and attend the School and Parent Engagement group meeting each term.
