Purpose of the role

The Zoological Society of London (ZSL) is an international conservation charity, driven by science, working to restore wildlife in the UK and around the world. You will play a key role in designing and delivering user-focused technologies, improving operational efficiency, and strengthening how we tell our conservation stories through data and digital innovation. By delivering user-focused technologies, improving operational efficiency, and strengthening our conservation storytelling, this role will evolve and future-proof ZSL’s digital ecosystem while supporting our mission to protect and restore nature in the UK and around the world.

This post is a blended role for office and home working; some travel to Zoo sites will be required.

Key Responsibilities:

Digital leadership and transformation

• Define and deliver a transformative digital, data, and technology vision aligned with ZSL’s strategic goals, embedding innovation to drive measurable impact on conservation outcomes and supporter engagement.
• Provide strategic oversight of IT operations, ensuring services align with organisational objectives, enable innovation, and support long-term growth.
• Lead ZSL’s digital transformation journey, championing system integration and adoption of digital solutions to foster a culture of digital literacy across the organisation.
• Design and implement change management strategies, readiness assessments, and adoption plans to ensure smooth delivery of digital initiatives and high-quality user experience.
• Engage and influence senior stakeholders across the organisation to secure buy-in and alignment on digital priorities.

Systems and infrastructure

• Identify, develop, and implement accessible, user-focused technologies and environmentally sustainable solutions that enhance organisational efficiency, impact, and engagement.
• Ensure IT infrastructure is robust, scalable, and reliable to meet future organisational needs while adhering to sustainability commitments.
• Increase organisational resilience by proactively managing risks associated with digital projects, including cyber security threats, data breaches, and system downtime.
• Develop, maintain and connect databases, platforms and tools to enable effective and improved ways of working across ZSL systems.

Data, Analytics and Cyber Security

• Establish and maintain strong data governance frameworks that ensure data integrity, compliance, and security, positioning data as a strategic organisational asset.
• Drive integration across key datasets and applications holding conservation, science, and supporter content using analytics tools such as PowerBI and middleware.
• Lead insights-driven decision-making by leveraging analytics to optimise user experience, operational efficiency, and storytelling impact for all stakeholders.
• Oversee cyber security strategy, including policy, risk management, incident response, and reporting to the executive team, ensuring organisational resilience.

People Leadership

• Lead, develop, and inspire high-performing digital and system users and IT teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.
• Build capability across the organisation to enhance digital literacy and adoption of new technologies.

About You

• Extensive experience in IT, digital, data, or technology leadership roles, demonstrating increasing responsibility over time.
• Proven track record of developing and delivering organisational digital and ICT strategies.
• Broad experience across multiple IT and digital disciplines.
• Experience managing budgets with a focus on cost-effectiveness and value for money.
• Demonstrated success in leading and developing large, high-performing teams.
• Outstanding leadership and strategic thinking capabilities, with the ability to set vision and direction.
• Deep understanding of data ecosystems, including platforms, governance, and insight generation.

London National Park City is looking for an organised and adaptable Administration Manager to join our small staff team. This permanent role is essential to strengthening the infrastructure that enables our volunteer Ranger community and partner groups to make neighbourhoods across London greener, healthier and wilder.

As our Administration Manager, you'll be the operational backbone of our organisation – managing our CRM and internal systems, maintaining policies and procedures, and ensuring our staff and 150+ volunteer Rangers have seamless access to the information and resources they need. You'll work across all areas of our operation, from supporting Ranger onboarding and events to assisting with Board meetings and partner communications.

London became the world's first National Park City in 2019, and we are a long-term grassroots movement connecting people and nature across the capital. This role offers the opportunity to help scale our impact, fixing what needs fixing and structuring our work so more communities can take the lead in transforming their local areas.

You'll be an experienced administrator who excels at managing multiple information sources, planning ahead, and making smart decisions about systems and processes. You'll be disciplined and organised with excellent communication skills, but also creative and willing to chip in wherever needed.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for managing our internal systems, record keeping, data management, and will provide support for our Ranger and Communications team.

You will be joining and fully participating in a unique and inspirational community of changemakers and storytellers, active across London and increasingly around the world. We pay all of our staff at least the London Living Wage.

This is a permanent role and the salary range is £30,000 to £34,000 dependent on experience. This may be a part or full-time role and we are open to applications for flexible working arrangements.

L&W is growing our research team and looking for a Head of Research to lead innovative, impactful research and evaluation projects across our focus areas of employment and skills.

This role will expand our capacity to win and deliver evaluation and qualitative research, while strengthening our methodological capability. We’re open-minded about what that means—but we want people who can go beyond standard process evaluations and basic qualitative approaches. You might have experience mapping and evaluating complex system-level change, applying realist evaluation methods, or developing co-design and participatory research projects. You will have have applied these while working alongside the practitioners and policymakers who need these insights to make decisions.

Main Purpose

The Head of Research: Evaluation and Qualitative Methods is a new post for L&W – as we seek to deepen our capability and expand our capacity.

The post-holder will direct research projects across all of our areas of work, providing specific leadership and expertise in programme and system-level evaluations, and projects mobilising innovative or advanced qualitative methods (such as system mapping, co-design methods, ethnographic methods, creative methods and/or theory-based/realist evaluation).

They will work with the Head of Research: Employment and Better Work to develop the wider qualitative and evaluative skills of the wider research team.

They will also play a key role in leading and writing responding to tenders and working with colleagues to develop pro-active research proposals that fill key evidence gaps and respond to the interests of our funders. Who we’re looking for

We are looking for an experienced, people-oriented project manager who is excited to help us deliver and scale innovative data programmes. You will work directly with organisations from across the third sector to understand their missions and translate their challenges into well-scoped projects. You will also support teams of volunteer data experts to scope projects and deliver impactful data science solutions.

You don't need to write code or run analysis yourself, but you should be comfortable working alongside technical experts, asking the right questions to scope data projects, and translating between technical and non-technical stakeholders. You'll need to hold conversations with data scientists about what's feasible, help charity partners understand what's possible with their data, and know when to bring in additional technical expertise.

Working hours and location 

This is a full-time role (35 hours per week); however we will consider part-time options (28 or 32 hours per week) for a strong candidate. Working hours are flexible, but we ask that 75% of working time is within the hours of 10am and 6pm, to facilitate team working and real-time collaboration.

The role requires regular out-of-hours commitments - roughly one weekend per quarter and 2-4 evenings per month for volunteer events. This work is part of, rather than additional to, your hours, and you must take time off in lieu for any extra working hours.

Our organisation is remote-first, and this role is hybrid, with access to London office space on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays, and quarterly in-person commitments in London. We have a preference for candidates able to work from our office space in London at least one day per week. There may be occasional national travel within the UK for other events and conferences, with reasonable expenses covered.
