About you
We are seeking a highly organised and proactive person. You will have good knowledge of homelessness policy and practice, strong written and spoken communication skills, including report writing, and the ability to collate and present quantitative and qualitative information. You will have excellent digital and IT skills, including Microsoft 365, Excel and Word, with the ability to adopt and apply AI-enabled productivity tools (e.g. Microsoft Copilot or equivalent) to improve ways of working.
You will also be confident in building relationships and working in partnership with shelters, day services, churches, community projects, funders, and other stakeholders.
About the role
The successful candidate will provide essential operational, administrative and coordination support to the Faith and Community Development Team, working closely with the London Partnerships and Development Lead. We are looking for a part-time Operations Manager to support our Executive Director and wider team by taking an operational lead, keeping a birds eye view over all of our activities and our infrastructure - and ensuring the principles and processes we’ve collectively agreed to are working optimally.

This role works with colleagues across the organisation, including our senior management team - but also in partnership with external organisations and agencies - with targets set for engagement (and other indicators of the success of our campaigns). We're working on multiple campaigns simultaneously; whether that's Carers Week, campaigns to influence changes to the law to better support carers, encouraging unpaid carers to join us as members, updating on activities in the devolved nations or getting people to fundraise for Carers UK. And we use a mix of owned, earned and paid communications to drive engagement in a challenging and crowded environment in order to get our messages to cut through. It's a busy, but varied role, in a supportive and collaborative team.
About you
Working within the communications and marketing team, you'll be confident in managing our social media accounts (we have many), ensuring we're using platforms to get our messages out to both wide and targeted audiences with engaging and timely content.
You'll be happy using tools for social listening, interacting with our audiences and building our reach. You'll be familiar with key metrics for social engagement and will be reporting back to colleagues and other stakeholders - and using this data to constantly improve our communications.
You'll be skilled in writing longer form content for our members' magazine, Caring, proof reading articles, posting content on our websites, creating graphics and making sure our content is engaging, audience focused and dynamic. Oh, and you probably know your way around an emoji set and are not scared of a well timed pun. Plus you'll have a great eye for detail and be confident in your ability to prioritise (and sometimes reprioritise) your workload as needed.
We're a small but effective communications team and pride ourselves on getting stuck in and supporting each other when we need to deliver big on fast moving projects, so you'll need be able to juggle lots of demands while recognising the importance of always hitting deadlines.

Person Specification
You will be excellent people manager, love working with a wide variety of people and be able to quickly build deep and positive relationships in a volunteer-centric organisation. You will want to spend time with the volunteers and get to know their experience and perspective. You are highly organised, data and IT savvy, efficient with your time, and you are used to prioritising tasks and making a difference wherever you go. Duties and Responsibilities
•Responsible for the end-to-end volunteer experience at the Merseyside Depot
•Recruit, induct, and support volunteers
•Handle individual volunteers’ queries and issues
•Carry out administrative tasks including using the Volunteer Management System in Microsoft Dynamics. Report on and utilise the data to make positive changes
•Manage volunteer feedback and implement effective problem-solving techniques and strategies
•Develop and deliver volunteer recruitment campaigns

Reporting to the Director of People & Culture, you'll work with senior leaders, volunteer managers, People and Culture Colleagues and volunteers across the organisation to design and embed a modern volunteer experience that reflects our values and supports our ambitious People & Culture agenda.
You'll create a complete volunteer lifecycle, from attraction and recruitment through to onboarding, development, engagement, recognition and retention, ensuring every volunteer has a consistent, inclusive and rewarding experience.
This is primarily a transformation role. Around three-quarters of your time will be spent leading a high-profile organisational project to redesign and embed our volunteering experience, while the remaining time will focus on coordinating volunteering activities that help our volunteers and managers succeed.

You don't need extensive volunteer management experience although charity sector and understanding of volunteering is a must.
