Job Profile
This role will lead CAFOD’s policy and advocacy work aimed at building a fairer global financial system. The post holder will have a solid understanding of contemporary global economic issues, including the global debt crisis, development finance and the workings of international multilateral organisations. Working closely with CAFOD’s overseas partners and within UK and global networks, this role will hold policy expertise on behalf of the organisation. This will involve developing policy positions and representing the organisation externally. The role will work closely with CAFOD’s government relations and campaigns colleagues to lobby decision-makers and mobilise supporters as part of our economic justice work. Sitting within the Advocacy, Policy & Campaigns team, the role is managed by the head of department.
Key Responsibilities
Leading the development and delivery of CAFOD’s global economic justice advocacy strategy
Working in partnership with UK and global organisations to develop evidence‑based policy positions
Influencing UK, regional and global policy debates on the global debt crisis, and other economic justice issues
Representing CAFOD in coalitions, to decision makers, in church networks and at international forums

JOB PURPOSE This is an exciting senior leadership role with the opportunity to shape how Waverley Abbey tells its story, grows its reach and engages people with its vision. The Head of Marketing and Communications will provide strategic, creative and inspiring leadership across all aspects of marketing, communications, brand and digital engagement. About the role

Previous delivery of training is essential, and if that experience has been gained in a peer-support or recovery setting, all the better. This role requires emotional intelligence; you’ll be working with people who have faced adversity, and your ability to support them within clear, professional boundaries is critical. Giving and receiving feedback, gathering data and other evidence to inform service development, and exercising reflective practice are all essential attributes.
You’ll also contribute to key projects that move SMART Recovery forward, adding your voice and insight to help shape what comes next. The role therefore requires project mangement skills as you will work on specific projects that develop our publications, training, communications and marketing. If you have a special interest and expertise in certain areas of our business such as social media and campaigns, training, volunteer management or copywriting we can develop this skill and interest as an enhancement to your role. This is an exciting opportunity to join our busy, ambitious and collaborative Media and PR team and help shape the national conversation around arthritis and musculoskeletal health. Working across a fast-paced and varied news agenda across the UK, you'll develop and deliver proactive media campaigns, respond to breaking news, work closely with people with lived experience to amplify their voices in the media, build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and journalists while securing high-profile coverage that raises awareness, influences decision-makers and supports our campaigning and organisational priorities.
About the role
You'll work closely with policy, research, campaigns and fundraising to tell compelling stories, prepare spokespeople for media opportunities and help position Arthritis UK as the go-to voice on arthritis and musculoskeletal health. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced media professional who enjoys spotting opportunities, working collaboratively and wants to use the power of earned media to make a real difference to the lives of more than 10 million people living with arthritis across the UK.
About you
If your knowledge, skills and experience include the following then we’d love to hear from you:
• Significant experience of developing and delivering successful media campaigns that secure impactful national, regional and broadcast coverage.
• Strong news judgement and the ability to identify and respond quickly to emerging media opportunities.
• Experience of building and maintaining effective relationships with journalists across print, broadcast and digital media.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience of producing high-quality media materials and briefing spokespeople.
• Experience of working in a fast-paced press office or media environment, managing multiple priorities and meeting tight deadlines.
• Confidence in handling reactive media enquiries and supporting reputation and issues management.
• Experience of monitoring and evaluating media activity, using insight to demonstrate impact and inform future work.
• A collaborative approach, with the ability to build strong relationships across teams and work effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders.

*As a hybrid worker the expectation is that you will spend around 40% of your working time in our office spaces or working in community settings. Would you like to make a positive difference to the lives of survivors of torture? Do you have experience of coordinating clinical services delivery to marginalised groups in a community setting?
We have an exciting opportunity for a Clinical/Counselling Psychologist to work with an innovative and friendly multidisciplinary team at our London Centre, which is a purpose-built centre specifically designed for the treatment of torture survivors, with extensive indoor space and gardens.
About the Role
Our team of experienced clinicians offer a range of specialist therapy interventions, to survivors of torture and organised violence, on an individual and group therapy basis. The interventions equip survivors with the resolve to deal with the physical and psychological impacts of their experiences. Throughout the rehabilitative journey, we closely monitor the impact of the interventions as it relates to each survivor using specifically designed Outcome Tools, which in turn assist in ensuring that the survivors receive the best treatment possible.
About You
To be successful in this role you must be qualified in Clinical or Counselling Psychology, (you will be trained to doctorate level or an equivalent vocational level 7). If you are nearing the completion of your training in either discipline, we would still love to hear from you. You must have knowledge of at least one evidence-based approach to trauma therapy including trauma focused CBT, NET and EMDR, sufficient to be able to deploy this model clinically and determine appropriate intervention pathways. It is also essential that you are registered to practice as a psychologist with HCPC. Due to the psychological trauma experienced by our clients you must have up to date knowledge of relevant mental health and safeguarding legislation. Your role will include offering supervision to trainees.

Our policy is that all appointments will be at the start of the salary range but successful candidates will have the opportunity to move up the scale over time.
