Engagement jobs
Background
The Lily Foundation is the UK's leading charity dedicated to advancing research, raising awareness, and providing support for individuals and families affected by mitochondrial disease ('mito'). Our vision is for a world in which every mitochondrial disease patient has a voice and access to treatment, support to improve their life and, ultimately, a cure.
We currently raise around £1m each year, with community fundraising, challenges and special events generating the majority of our income. With a new fundraising strategy in place, exciting plans for growth and increasing opportunities to engage supporters in different ways, we're looking for someone to bring these programmes together into a joined-up public fundraising portfolio.
This is a fantastic opportunity to help shape the future of public fundraising at The Lily Foundation, building on our strong foundations while developing new ways to inspire supporters, grow income and maximise long-term engagement.
About the role
This is an exciting new role with responsibility for leading and developing Lily's public fundraising programme, bringing together our sports events, special events, community fundraising and emerging individual giving activity.
Reporting to the COO, you'll provide leadership across the public fundraising team, ensuring our programmes work together to deliver an outstanding supporter experience and sustainable income growth. You'll line-manage three colleagues, helping them succeed in their roles while creating a joined-up approach to planning, delivery and stewardship across the portfolio.
Alongside overseeing one of Lily's largest fundraising income streams, you'll also play an important role in developing our Individual Giving, Regular Giving and legacy fundraising activity, helping turn these emerging programmes into strong and sustainable sources of future income. If you're someone who enjoys developing people, spotting opportunities and bringing different strands of fundraising together, this is a brilliant opportunity to make a lasting impact.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the delivery and ongoing development of Lily's public fundraising programme, ensuring community fundraising, sports events, special events and individual giving activity work together to maximise income and supporter engagement.
- Line-manage, support and develop the two Events Managers and the Community & Individual Giving Officer, providing clear direction, regular feedback and development opportunities, and carrying out formal performance reviews
- Work closely with the Head of Fundraising to translate Lily's fundraising strategy into practical annual plans, priorities and targets for the public fundraising portfolio.
- Oversee the performance of the public fundraising programme, monitoring income, expenditure and KPIs, identifying trends and opportunities, and taking action where required.
- Support the continued development of Lily's Individual Giving, Regular Giving and Legacy fundraising programmes, helping to test new ideas, improve supporter journeys and build long-term sustainable income.
- Ensure supporters receive an excellent experience across all public fundraising activity, developing joined-up stewardship journeys that encourage long-term support.
- Work collaboratively with Marketing colleagues to develop engaging fundraising campaigns, products and communications that inspire supporters to get involved.
- Encourage innovation and continuous improvement across the team, using insight, evaluation and supporter feedback to inform future activity.
- Ensure accurate use of the CRM system (Donorfy), promoting good data management and using reporting and insight to support decision-making.
- Prepare regular reports and updates for the Head of Fundraising and COO, highlighting progress, opportunities, risks and recommendations.
- Work collaboratively across fundraising, marketing and operations to ensure public fundraising activity is well planned, well supported and aligned with organisational priorities.

About the Role
Rough sleeping pathways only work when the system around people moves with urgency, consistency and accountability. This role is about making sure people sleeping rough, or at risk of returning to the streets, are not left waiting, drifting between services, or losing accommodation because barriers have not been gripped quickly enough.
As Outreach Housing Pathway Coordinator, you will work within Camden’s integrated Rough Sleeping and Outreach Hub to help people access and sustain appropriate accommodation. You will hold oversight of where people are in their housing journey, identify what is blocking progress, and work with outreach teams, Navigators, hostels, pathway providers, community safety partners and statutory services to keep plans moving.
You will focus on the points where pathways can break down: delays, exclusions, unsuitable offers, unresolved risks, street activity linked to accommodation, or support needs that have not yet been fully understood or responded to. Through assertive engagement, practical case coordination and strong partnership working, you will help people stabilise their accommodation and reduce the risk of returning to rough sleeping.
Working within Camden’s No Wrong Door model, you will bring grip, judgement and persistence to complex situations, ensuring people experiencing multiple disadvantage receive a response that is joined-up, trauma-informed and focused on lasting routes away from the street. SHP will support you with the training, reflective practice and development opportunities needed to continue building your expertise in this work.
About you:
- You understand that people experiencing rough sleeping are often navigating trauma, exclusion, unmet needs and systems that have not worked for them. You bring patience, persistence and a clear belief that people should not be written off when engagement is difficult.
- You know how homelessness pathways, outreach services and supported accommodation can work together, and you can spot where delays, exclusions or gaps in communication are putting someone’s route away from the street at risk.
- You are confident working with complexity. You can hold risk, need and accountability together, making balanced decisions while keeping people’s safety, dignity and long-term accommodation sustainment at the centre.
- You build relationships that help things move. Whether you are speaking with someone on the street, a hostel, a Navigator, a statutory service or a community safety partner, you communicate clearly, follow through on actions and keep people focused on solutions.
- You bring practical judgement, emotional resilience and a trauma-informed approach to your work, with the ability to stay calm and purposeful when situations are challenging, stuck or urgent.
About us:
We’re London’s leading homelessness charity – and we get things done.
In a city where hundreds are forced into homelessness every day, our work has never been more needed or more challenging. And we’re not shying away. We’re rolling up our sleeves to make change and helping over 10,000 Londoners every year. We prevent homelessness, provide safe places to live and give people the opportunity to rebuild their lives and transform their futures. And we never give up.
We’re here for Londoners wherever they are on their journey. We start with trust, building relationships that help people feel safe, supported, and ready to move forward. Introduction to the Cathedral
Southwark Cathedral has been a place of Christian worship for over 1400 years. Now it stands on the vibrant and exciting regenerated south bank of the Thames surrounded by cultural venues such as Tate Modern, Shakespeare’s Globe and Borough Market, the offices of major companies as well as schools and diverse residential communities. It is an inclusive Christian community that offers a welcome to all.
The Cathedral’s mission, ministry and musical tradition are core to its life as a Cathedral and a parish church serving the community. It also relies on the valuable financial contribution made by its income generating activities such as its shop, café, conference rooms, corporate events and concerts. It is a very busy place, attracting 290,000 visitors a year to the Cathedral, its churchyard and medieval herb garden. The Cathedral relies on a small but dedicated team to be inclusive and welcoming to all.
Southwark Cathedral is committed to being an Equal Opportunities Employer. We believe in promoting and building a diverse and inclusive team, and workplace, culture and governance structures that are welcoming to and respectful of all. We welcome applications from all suitably qualified people whatever their ethnicity, background, age, disability, long term condition, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other characteristic protected by law.
Southwark Cathedral is committed to a culture of safeguarding, especially for children, young people, and vulnerable adults.
