Steamship Shieldhall is seeking to appoint an experienced freelance Commercial Manager to build new income streams to support the ongoing operation, conservation and sustainability of one of the country's most significant historic ships.
Shieldhall is berthed year-round in Southampton and welcomes passengers and visitors on board from 110 Berth in the Western Docks. She is capable of carrying up to 220 passengers and from spring to autumn each year operates a programme of public sailings ranging from two hour trips to full day cruises. She is also open for alongside events, and is available for private charters. In addition, she can be hired for use alongside such as for training activities, meetings, functions and filming.
The Commercial Manager will be responsible for identifying and realising new opportunities for revenue generation for Steamship Shieldhall, as well as supporting Shieldhall’s experienced volunteers with maximising income from existing activities.
This commission is an important element of the “Steamship Shieldhall: towards 2055, the next 10 years” project which is supported by a Development Phase grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund. The appointment is intended to cover both the Development Phase and the first two years of the Delivery Phase of our project but will include a break-clause between the two phases. The Delivery Phase contract is contingent on a successful Delivery Phase grant application to the Heritage Fund

This is a new opportunity to develop the role of Fundraising and Partnerships Manager to lead the identification, development and submission of new funding proposals, and to lead on relationship management with new and potential investors. You will work closely with the technical and operation teams.

Main duties and responsibilities
1.Work with the Associate Head of Brand and Marketing Planning to implement the strategic framework for the annual planning process, ensuring our marketing investment is aligned to strategic priorities, led by market research and media insight, and drives impact.

Purpose of This Role:
This key support role will work with colleagues across the organisation to ensure NASP’s data and key systems, including our CRM (Microsoft Dynamics 365), dashboards and databases, are effective, accurate, and useful. This includes improving data capture, enabling consistent reporting, and ensuring that quality data can be used to support organisational priorities.
The role will support colleagues to use systems confidently and understand data requirements, providing analytic solutions that meet the needs of the organisation, and identifying where practices and systems can be improved.
The role will sit within the wider Operations team who oversee the core business and operational functions of NASP, including Finance, HR, Governance, Project Support, Administration, and Logistics. As a member of this team, the role will provide general administrative support to NASP programmes, liaising with our CRM support provider (Chorus) and IT provider (Logicata) to act as an essential bridge between internal colleagues and these external technical experts.
As NASP continues to develop its membership and training offers, the Data and Systems Officer will support the growth of this work, ensuring that systems and data flows are aligned, and leading on the technical management of data within these systems. The role will also support teams with reporting and evaluation, making effective use of NASP’s data.
This is an ideal opportunity for a proactive and highly organised individual with excellent data management, administrative, and technical skills (particularly working with CRMs) to support across the range of NASP’s programmes and projects, as well as development of new systems and processes.

CRM and Systems Management
Ensure colleagues across the organisation are effectively using the CRM (Microsoft Dynamics); as well as other key data systems, supporting with staff training and guidance, providing advice and support where needed to ensure the team feels positive and confident using them in their day-to-day work.
Undertake regular reviews & audits of data stored on the CRM to amend errors (e.g. duplicate records), and identify gaps or areas of concern, ensuring a smooth user experience.
Work closely with our CRM support provider (Chorus) to manage any support requests and technical errors, undertaking any updates, fixes and developments to the system where required.

You will bring significant experience of leading staff and services in complex community settings, with the ability to balance strategic oversight with close connection to frontline delivery.
You will have strong safeguarding knowledge, sound professional judgement and experience of managing risk within multi-agency and community contexts. Confident working in partnership, you will be able to build trusted relationships across the VCSE sector, statutory services and local networks, influencing others and supporting joined-up, accessible pathways for clients.
You will be emotionally intelligent, resilient and inclusive in your leadership style, able to lead teams through change while maintaining clarity, professional boundaries and a strong focus on quality. You will be comfortable using data and insight to inform service improvement, performance and decision-making, and will be able to maintain a visible presence across services, partnerships and community settings.
A commitment to equality, diversity, inclusive practice and trauma-responsive services is essential, along with the ability to travel regularly across Surrey and work flexibly across multiple sites.
