Are you a recent graduate looking for a role where you'll learn how a charity runs day-to-day? The Architectural Heritage Fund (AHF) is looking for a friendly, organised Administration Assistant to join our team in London.
This is a great opportunity to start building your career in charity, social enterprise or office administration. You'll be at the heart of everything we do — supporting our Senior Management Team and Trustees, helping run meetings and events, and keeping our office running smoothly — while developing skills in governance, minute-taking, and project coordination. Whether you're just starting out or already have a year or two of administrative experience, what matters most is your organisation, attention to detail, and enthusiasm for learning.
You'll help manage diaries and meeting logistics for our senior team and Trustees, format and circulate papers for Board and staff meetings, book travel and accommodation, keep our records and filing in good order, and be a welcoming first point of contact for anyone who calls or emails AHF. You'll also get involved in organising our Annual Away Day and other AHF-wide events — and, with support, take minutes at decision-making meetings such as the Audit and Risk Committee and HR committee.
We'd love to hear from you if you enjoy staying organised, communicate clearly and confidently, and like the idea of learning new systems and ways of working. Any experience you've picked up through university, part-time work, volunteering, placements, student societies, committee roles, or paid administrative work all counts.
You'll ideally have an interest in the AHF's mission — helping to deliver a sustainable future for historic buildings throughout the UK — but a passion for heritage is a bonus, not a requirement.
We are a charity committed to being inclusive and giving everyone an equal chance to succeed – you can read more about our EDI commitments from our website. Applications are welcome from all regardless of age, sex, gender identity, disability, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, religion or belief, race, sexual orientation, transgender status or socio-economic background.

Head of Finance and Operations
Salary: £45,000–£50,000 per annum, plus performance-related bonus of up to £5,000 per annum
Location: South London
Contract: Permanent, full-time
Hybrid working: Up to one day per week from home, with additional flexibility possible
We are working with an established arts and education charity to recruit a new Head of Finance and Operations.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a small, ambitious organisation delivering a range of artistic, educational and community programmes. The charity receives income from a diverse mix of public funding, trusts and foundations, individual giving, sponsorship and commercial activity.
Sitting within the Leadership Team and working closely with the Director, this is a genuinely broad role encompassing finance, operations, governance, HR and organisational management.
A key part of the role will be leading the charity’s financial management and planning. You’ll manage the annual budget, produce quarterly management accounts and cash-flow forecasts, oversee VAT returns and work closely with external accountants and auditors on the year-end accounts and audit. You’ll also work with budget holders, senior colleagues, trustees and the Finance, Audit & Risk Committee to ensure strong financial management across the organisation.
We are particularly interested in candidates who have previous experience working within a small charity or similarly sized not-for-profit organisation. This isn’t a role where finance sits in isolation – you’ll need to be comfortable getting into the detail, working across different areas of the organisation and balancing strategic responsibilities with the practical realities of working in a smaller charity.
Strong charity finance experience will therefore be important. You’ll need to understand the complexities of restricted and unrestricted funding, be confident managing and reporting against different funding streams and have a good working knowledge of Charity SORP.
Experience of dealing with funders and their different reporting and monitoring requirements will also be particularly useful.
Alongside finance, you’ll oversee a varied operational remit including building and office management, HR processes, organisational policies and governance. You’ll also support the Board and committees, take responsibility for company secretarial duties and maintain relationships with key funders and stakeholders.
This role would suit someone who enjoys the variety that comes with working in a small charity – practical, organised and collaborative, with the confidence to operate at leadership and trustee level while still being happy to roll their sleeves up when required.
You don’t necessarily need to tick every box. We’re keen to hear from candidates with strong charity finance experience who can demonstrate the ability to manage a broad and varied remit.
The role sits on the Senior Leadership Team, reporting to the Charity Director. You will manage a General Manager and Freelance Bookkeeper.
Fully-qualified and part-qualified ACCA, CIMA or ACA candidates will be considered.
Please send your CV for further consideration.
Closing date: 10am, Monday 21 September 2026.

Members are expected to promote safe and ethical practice at all times and maintain confidentiality throughout (The panel may decide that confidentiality be broken where there is a legal obligation to disclose information, where there is a risk of serious harm to an individual or others, or where the sharing of information is needed to safeguard an individuals welfare)
Time Commitment
As a minimum, IMHEP members should attend two scheduled meetings per year to review and discuss a selection of identified complex cases. Members will receive a set fee for attending meetings, and reasonable expenses incurred in order to travel to meetings will be reimbursed.
Members will be appointed for an initial term of two years, after which they will be eligible to reapply for another two years, up to four times (maximum of 8 years). Members can resign from the Panel at any point with written notice, and The FA can also terminate appointments where necessary.
