We are looking for a skilled caseworker to provide high-quality advice and support to LSE students
We are recruiting an additional full-time Caseworker to join our small and high performing team, alongside an existing Caseworker and Advice Manager. We pride ourselves on our innovative approach to student support and are looking for someone who shares that creative ambition and drive.
About LSESU
The London School of Economics and Political Science Students' Union (LSESU) is a high-profile, student-led charity representing and supporting over 11,000 students at one of the world's leading social science institutions.
We're currently in an exciting period of growth and transformation, with a newly appointed Chief Executive and a clear sense of purpose: to help students make the most of all the life-changing opportunities available to them at LSE.
- We help students make friends and feel like they belong at LSE, through clubs, societies, sports, and events.
- We make sure students voices’ get heard by decision makers LSE.
- We provide practical support for the students who need us most: those facing housing difficulties, financial hardship, academic appeals, immigration issues.
The Advice Service sits right at the heart of that last commitment, making this one of the most directly impactful roles in the Students’ Union.
About the team:
The LSESU Advice Service supports students across a range of academic and housing issues, while also administering a series of increasingly sought-after hardship funds. As Advice Caseworker, you’ll be expected to become an expert in these areas, delivering the bulk of the casework and making a difference to the students who need it most.
You’ll also work closely with our Communications team to shape our communication and engagement strategy - raising stakeholder awareness, improving service accessibility, and providing students with regular, proactive and useful information.
The Advice Service sits within the Student Voice Department, alongside the Representation Team. You will work closely with colleagues across the Student Voice department and the wider Student Union, along with Student Support teams at LSE.
About the role
We're looking for a skilled caseworker who is both empathetic and pragmatic.
You'll manage a large, complex caseload while consistently meeting response-time targets, and you'll bring a positive, solution-focused attitude to the challenges that come with it. Above all, you're genuinely enthusiastic about supporting students and comfortable navigating the complexities of working with an external stakeholder organisation.
This role centres on providing 1:1 advice via email, video call, and in-person appointments, so strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills are essential.
You'll also need strong diligence and the ability to digest complex regulations and translate them into clear, practical guidance — this is crucial to delivering the high level of support LSE students rely on.
In many ways, this is not a typical Advice Service, and we are not looking for a typical Advice Caseworker. We are seeking someone who is self-motivated, driven, resilient, and a role model to others. The ideal candidate will be a strong collaborator, able to support colleagues, and skilled at building and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships.
How to apply?
We want to ensure that all systems, policies and processes are free from bias or discrimination and are fair and accessible. Therefore, we ask that all candidates complete our application process by uploading the following three documents:
Part 1: CV – Outlining your skills and experience to date.
Part 2: Supporting Statement – A one-page statement explaining your suitability for the role. This will be used to determine if you are shortlisted for an interview. Application forms are formatted to ensure the equality monitoring data is removed before they are reviewed by the shortlisting panel. This process ensures that shortlisting is conducted fairly and consistently, giving all applicants an equal opportunity to demonstrate their abilities.

Why Change Grow Live?
Change Grow Live are a health and social care charity. We support people in a huge range of difficult situations, including those who use drugs and alcohol, and those whose home life is affected by drugs, mental health and/or domestic violence. We're the largest charity of this type in the country, supporting tens of thousands of people in their own journeys. Hundreds of staff work across our organisation to support some of the most vulnerable people in society. Among the many services we offer are:
Responsibilities
Our technology
We've got complex requirements: recording, monitoring and reviewing information about our clients, with their informed consent. Our in-house web application acts as an electronic patient record, a case management system, a quality management system, and more - it's grown over the last 15 years!
We started out with a Perl application, and have improved it aggressively over the years. All our software is deployed using Docker containers using ECS; much of it using infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform and Pulumi. Our data is stored in a serverless/autoscaling MySQL database.
Newer work is often written in TypeScript, using NestJS and SvelteKit. We’ll use a variety of testing tools in both languages: end-to-end, integration and unit testing are all covered.
We practice a genuinely blame-free culture with incidents/mistakes and always focus our conversations on improving processes, not individual recrimination.
We're looking for compassionate, bold, open-minded software developers to help us build this software. Your efforts will empower frontline professionals carry out their life-saving work.
About you!
An ideal candidate will have some familiarity with SQL: our team write queries often!
We’d love to see candidates with some strong knowledge of HTML and CSS beyond the basics. We don't need you to know any frameworks in particular - but we'd love to see great fundamentals for building on the web, so you should have some experience building applications using JavaScript in the browser.
Debugging and testing experience is a must, in any language - we think that's a highly transferrable skill.
Previous experience with Perl is not a strict requirement. We're happy to show you the ropes - you'll be up to speed in no time!
You should really care about security. You’ll be happy to openly discuss approaches which make the software as safe as possible for people who use our services.
You’ll relish – or at least, enjoy the challenge of - diving into legacy code and documenting, improving and testing the code our users rely on. When you choose to rebuild things, it’s because you genuinely understand the previous solution and its shortcomings.
You'll be a curious, generalist thinker, never limiting yourself to one narrow specialty. As a team, we'll jump from CSS to AWS infrastructure in a day’s work. Of course, we don’t know everything: it's a perfect environment for learning; “I don’t know, let me check” is always a good answer.
What we will give to you:
Please ensure that when completing your application form and supporting statement, you reflect on the details outlined in the job description. This will help us understand how your skills and experiences align with the requirements of the role.
If this sounds like you and you’d like to begin your journey with Change Grow Live, then we’d love to talk to you
As we want to get to know you, not an AI tool. Please make sure your application is written in your own words and genuinely reflects your skills, experience and motivation for this role
Direct applications only we will not be engaging agencies for this vacancy.
We reserve the right to close the vacancy early if we receive a high number of applications, so we encourage you to apply as soon as possible.
Full-time hours at Change Grow Live are 37.5 hours per week. For part-time roles, the salary and payments will be pro rata based on contracted hours.

Are you looking for a rewarding role working for an intersectional feminist organisation? If so, we have an incredible opportunity for you to join our team as a Multiple Disadvantage Worker at Solace Women's Aid.
We exist to end the harm caused by gender-based violence. Our aim is to prevent violence and abuse, as well as provide services that meet the individual needs of survivors, particularly women and children. Our work is holistic and empowering, working alongside survivors to achieve independent lives free from abuse.
Our core values reflect our history and were developed in consultation with staff and service users. Feminism and intersectionality are key to our work, and we are committed to the principles of being survivor-led, trauma-informed, empowering, diverse, anti-racist and anti-discriminatory.
About the Service
Ella House supports women facing multiple disadvantages and intersectional challenges, including homelessness, substance misuse, contact with the criminal justice system and mental ill health. These women can fall through the gaps between services and systems, making it harder for them to address their challenges and lead fulfilling lives. At Ella House, the goals are to support clients with multiple and complex needs, recognising the emotional and compound trauma that can accompany and, in many cases, precede homelessness, and to co-produce, co-ordinate and deliver support.
Ella House provides support by empowering women through independence, inclusion, peer support and wellbeing, bringing together diverse expertise and approaches.
The service delivers holistic support, where people are seen for their full combination of strengths, capacities, and experiences. We recognise how women, as individuals, want to be supported to define and work towards their goals. This looks different for everyone and will require staff to be patient, observant, creative and committed to trying a range of approaches.
About the Role
Multiple Disadvantage Workers provide support services to women affected by multiple disadvantages, who have experienced domestic and/or sexual violence and who have mental ill health and/or use substances.
You will ensure the smooth running of the refuge, including processing and admitting new referrals, ensuring rent and personal charges are paid, preparing rooms, overseeing general housekeeping, organising repairs and responding to crisis situations. You will work with women to devise a Support Plan that meets their immediate practical and emotional needs and starts the process of recovery, linking women to more specialist support services where required. You will work in a trauma-informed way and ideally have a background in supporting people with significant mental ill health and/or substance use issues.
About You
The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of multiple disadvantages and their impact on women, as well as experience of providing emotional and practical support to clients experiencing homelessness, substance misuse, contact with the criminal justice system and mental ill health.
You will have experience of managing risk and following case management procedures to meet the needs of the client group, as well as the ability to work with women to help them understand their needs, assess risk, develop safety plans and link with other agencies.
You will have a working knowledge of the available legal remedies, housing and welfare benefits, as well as experience of providing workshops.
In addition to case management, you will be required to undertake housing management responsibilities, including health and safety and maintenance of the accommodation. You will have excellent administrative and time management skills.
Additional Information
The postholder will be based at our Haringey service, working full-time from Monday to Sunday on a shift rota basis and providing on-site support to survivors. Given the nature of this role, we are unable to offer hybrid working for this position.
