Job description

Are you an experienced helpline operations professional who wants your work to make a real difference?

Join British Heart Foundation (BHF) and support our nurse‑led Heart Helpline, a service that provides information and support for people living with heart and circulatory conditions.

This isn’t a call centre job. It’s a chance to oversee the smooth running of a compassionate helpline where quality, safety and accessibility matter.

About the role

As our Helpline Operations Manager you’ll manage the day‑to‑day operations of our virtual helpline, including telephony, email and live-chat systems. You’ll oversee rotas, ensure the helpline is staffed adequately and help with data led planning and demand forecasting, making sure we’re always ready to support the people who need us.

You’ll look after key processes such as onboarding new team members with the technical aspects of the helpline, coordinating bank, and managing hours, shifts and payroll details.

Working closely with the Helpline Nurse Lead, you’ll support service improvement work, contributing to data reporting, technology development, information governance and quality audits. Your work will help us maintain a service that people trust during difficult moments.

About you

You’ll bring strong experience of running helpline or contact‑centre operations, ideally in a health, charity or support‑focused setting. You’ll also be confident with virtual call systems, organised, calm under pressure and comfortable using data to plan and problem‑solve.

Able to work well with clinical colleagues, technical teams and partners across the charity, you’ll care about delivering a high‑quality experience for every person who reaches out to us.

If you want a role with purpose and you’re motivated by leading a service that genuinely helps people, we’d love to hear from you.

About us

By embracing diversity and fostering an inclusive environment, we strengthen our ability to achieve our mission of saving and improving lives, ensuring our work reflects and serves the needs of every community across the UK.

Our people are at the heart of everything we do. By funding research across six decades, we’ve helped keep millions of hearts beating and millions of families together. We’re investing in ground-breaking research that will get us closer than ever to a world where everyone has a healthier heart for longer.

 Working requirements

Please note this is a 12 month fixed term contract.

This is a hybrid role, where your work will be split between your home and at least one day per week, on average, in our London Office. This may vary from time to time, so you will need to work in a flexible way to unlock your best work for our cause.

Benefits and development

At BHF, we offer a comprehensive range of benefits designed to support our colleagues’ wellbeing and professional growth.

 Interview process

1st stage interviews will be held, via MS Teams, on Monday 16th and Tuesday 17th March. Successful candidates will then be invited to a 2nd stage interview, held in person at our London offices, on Tuesday 24th March.

How to apply

It’s quick and easy to apply for a role at the BHF. Just click through to our careers site to apply. All you’ll need is an up-to-date CV and a supporting statement, outlining your interest in the role and how you meet the role’s criteria.

Our recruitment processes are fair, accessible, and inclusive. BHF use anonymous CV software as part of the application journey.

Due to the nature of this role our recruitment process requires that successful candidates are asked to consent to an Enhanced DBS check and any offer of employment will be subject to a satisfactory check being completed.

Should you need any adjustments to the recruitment process, at either application or interview, please contact us.
