Job Title: Lead Lawyer, Litigation

The Role

FILE is seeking a Lead Lawyer to support our strategy and grants teams in assessing the opportunities and risks associated with funding partners that may be involved with litigation.

You will provide expert legal guidance internally, help shape FILE’s policies and processes, and act as a trusted advisor to colleagues making decisions about funding partners that may be engaged in litigation, with consideration of justice, equity and inclusion in how risks and opportunities are assessed. While FILE is not – and you will not be – actively or directly involved in litigation, your strategic insights will ensure FILE’s grant-making is responsible, effective, and aligned with our mission.

You will also contribute to shaping FILE’s policies and processes in this area and act as a trusted advisor to colleagues across the organisation. In addition, you will engage with external partners to support broader sector understanding within philanthropy of funding partners that may be engaged in litigation.

You will be supervised by the Regional Director (North America & Transnational Finance), however, your work will be global in scope and as such, you will have close working relationships with key colleagues across departments and geographies.

Key Responsibilities

• Providing clear, practical legal advice and strategic guidance to colleagues on opportunities, processes, and risks associated with funding partners engaged in litigation, including considering partners’ potential exposure to adverse costs and broader justice and equity implications
• Acting as a trusted sounding board to colleagues considering funding partners’ litigation-related work, to enable high-quality decision-making on relevant grants
• Contributing to the effective design and implementation of FILE’s policies and processes for managing risks associated with funding partners that may be engaged in litigation
• Supporting colleagues to apply these policies consistently and confidently in practice
• Building internal capability through training and guidance about risk and opportunities related to funding partners that may be engaged in litigation
• Working collaboratively and inclusively with colleagues across departments who bring diverse perspectives and complementary expertise, including from FILE’s legal, strategy and grants functions
• Supporting the development of sector-wide thinking within philanthropy about funding partners that may be engaged in litigation

Essential criteria

• Qualified lawyer (current or past) with litigation experience
• Strong understanding of strategic management of litigation procedures in civil and/or common law jurisdictions (with a strong preference for experience with litigation in common law jurisdictions)
• Skilled in assessing and managing complex legal and strategic risks
• Ability to provide clear and practical legal and strategic advice to non-legal audiences
• Strategic thinking, communication, and collaboration skills
• Demonstrated ability to apply justice, equity, diversity and inclusion principles in professional practice, including in decision-making, advising, or stakeholder engagement

The Foundation for International Law for the Environment (FILE) is a not-for-profit philanthropic organisation working to accelerate legal action on climate change.  

Through grant-making and in-house legal expertise, we empower our partners to deliver strategic, innovative legal interventions and we support lawyers in their own countries to bring their own cases.  

Legal action can unlock the systemic changes in finance, policy and social systems needed to protect all of us from climate change. The power of the law is both direct (changing policy and practice) and indirect (signalling the wider shifts taking place across these systems). 

FILE is a ‘regrantor’ - this means we do not bring legal action in our own name. We receive grants from our philanthropic donors and make onwards grants to partners who align with FILE’s charitable aims and purposes. We do not seek to make any profit from our activities either in a relevant financial year or in the longer term.

We are looking for someone with a proven record of developing collaboration and coproduction across services for people experiencing housing or homelessness issues people, to join us as a Project Coordinator. The role will oversee the development of Shelter’s participation in the Norfolk Homelessness Solution Forum. 

About this role 

Your role as Project Coordinator will further develop collaboration and coproduction across organisations who are member of the Norfolk Homelessness Solutions Forum. Specifically, this will involve project management for delivering the Forum’s objectives, overseeing the project communications plan and establishing and leading delivery working groups. You will oversee and support the work of the Norfolk Homelessness Solution Forum’s Lived Experience Coordinator, act as an adviser on good practice for partners and ensure that co-production, collaboration and a person centred focus is at the heart of everything you do.

About you 

You will have experience of managing complex projects, including using a range of Project Management techniques and influencing system change using an evidence base. An outstanding and adaptable communicator, you will have experience of chairing meetings, delivering presentations and working in a multi-disciplinary context with external stakeholders. Your understanding and empathy for the people worst impacted by the housing emergency means you will be able to motivate partner organisations, championing the work of Shelter and the Forum within Norfolk.

The aim of the Norfolk Homelessness Solution Forum is to bring about system change for homelessness support in Norfolk, by ensuring that the people’s views are transferred into policies and practices that truly support and serve the community. The Forum helps with the sharing of best practice, identifying service gaps and developing strategy to reduce homelessness and rough sleeping.

We have been providing housing advice to the people of Norfolk for almost 30 years, with specialisms in housing legal advice and advocacy. Our team work out of our Community Hub in Norwich and across Norfolk in community settings. We work in partnership with other local services to address interconnected issues which may impact on our clients’ ability to keep a home. This also includes advice for residents of Kings Lynn in partnership with Broadland Housing and Norfolk Citizens Advice. We also deliver housing right awareness sessions to empower local communities to take action on housing issues.

We’re looking for a Senior Innovation and Development Lead to help shape the future of how we grow income and engage customers at the British Heart Foundation (BHF).

Responsible for driving innovation that delivers both impact and income you will:

• Identify new audience problems and income opportunities, using desk research, internal insight and commissioned customer research.

About you 

As our ideal candidate, you’ll bring senior‑level experience in innovation, fundraising or product development, with a clear ability to turn insight into action. You’re commercially minded and creative, comfortable with ambiguity, and able to move at pace while staying focused on what delivers real value. 

You’ll have proven experience leading propositions end‑to‑end from early problem discovery and insight through testing, piloting, scaling and evaluation, all delivered in‑house. You’ve built and refined MVPs and pilots through evidence‑based experimentation, and you’re confident making calls on when to scale, pivot or stop initiatives. 

With advance data and insight skills, you can translate complex qualitative and quantitative insight into clear options and recommendations for senior stakeholders. You bring experience building strong business and investment cases, including budgeting and forecasting, as well as taking successful propositions into BAU. Used to working in complex, cross functional environments, you can influence without direct authority and manage interdependencies and governance with clarity. 

Working arrangements 

This is a hybrid role, where your work will be split between your home and at least one day per week, on average, in our London Office. This may vary from time to time, so you will need to work in a flexible way to unlock your best work for our cause.

The Woodland Trust is looking for a Conservation Evidence Officer to support the UK-wide Conservation Outcomes and Evidence Team by using research, monitoring, and evidence to guide conservation work.

The Role:

• Lead delivery of key Woodland Trust research and evidence projects and have input to projects and programmes across the Trust and the sector.
• Search, collate, review and synthesise evidence from the scientific and grey literature.
• Use and interpret evidence from a wide range of sources, including direct consultation with experts/stakeholders.
• Prepare manuscripts for publication to scientific peer-reviewed journals and grey literature.
• Lead in the production and delivery of evidence briefings and reviews.
• Communicate conservation research through webinars, reports, social media, and stakeholder engagement to inform policy, campaigns, and conservation delivery. 
• Build the Trust’s evidence-led credibility and collaborate with researchers, applied scientists, and academic partners to co-develop original research and deliver Woodland Trust outcomes.
• This is a hybrid position with a mix of home working, and from our head office in Grantham, Lincolnshire. Head office attendance would be required no more than once a month on average. Occasional travel to other offices and locations may also be required.

The Candidate:

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex scientific concepts for both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Strong understanding of UK conservation and environmental issues, particularly relating to native trees, woodlands, and associated wildlife.
• Experience in scientific publishing, grey literature, and science communication.
• Proficiency in statistical and spatial analysis software (R and ArcGIS is desirable).
• Experience working with applied scientific data, including designing and conducting research projects, and interpreting, analysing, and presenting findings with strong attention to detail.
• Proven ability to critically evaluate evidence and develop persuasive, evidence-based arguments for advocacy purposes.
• Degree in conservation, ecology, environmental or biological sciences; PhD desirable.
• Fieldwork experience is desirable.

About You

From commentary on government policy and ambitious landscape recovery programmes, to highlighting the restoration of vital habitats - such as Britain’s lost rainforests - and showcasing community action for nature, you’ll help bring the breadth and impact of our work to life. You’ll do this through compelling press releases, media commentary, and by securing high-quality interview and filming opportunities.

You will develop and maintain strategic relationships with national journalists and media outlets, while actively playing an important role in protecting and enhancing The Wildlife Trusts’ brand and reputation.

You’ll have a track record of developing a range of news stories and features, and the confidence to pitch and place stories and commentary effectively with journalists and editors.

Harris Hill has an exciting opportunity for a Community Fundraising Consultant, to help cover an interim permanent recruitment period of 3-6 months, on a full or part time basis.

You will play a key role in ensuring WWF remains up to date with legislative and regulatory developments relevant to our influencing priorities and will build and maintain strong relationships with external legal counsel to support advocacy and campaigning work.

This role will act as WWF’s primary internal expert on how the law can be used to support and accelerate our strategic advocacy goals.

Skills and experience

You’ll bring the skills and experience needed to succeed in this role, including:

· Qualified solicitor or barrister holding a current UK practising certificate, or equivalent relevant experience or qualifications

· Significant post-qualification experience relevant to WWF’s aims, including experience supporting advocacy, campaigning or policy work

· Detailed knowledge and experience of advising on environmental, public or international law, with strong litigation skills
