Job Title: Payroll and Pensions Officer

Location: Islington based in our Central Office. You will be required to work Mondays in the office, plus an additional day within a service, with home working possible through the rest of the week. Additional days out may be required. Please note that unfortunately, there is no step free access available at our central office, and cannot be guaranteed at other locations

Salary: £30,000 annual

Shift Pattern: Fixed term contract until January 2027, 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday 09:00 - 17:00. You may be required to work outside these hours due to tight payroll run deadlines, time in lieu will be provided in these cases.

About the Role

We're hiring an experienced payroll and pensions officer. You will join a small Payroll team, reporting to the Payroll and Pensions Manager. You will ensure efficient and accurate payroll operations, ensuring staff are paid correctly, on time. You will support in the preparation and processing of monthly payroll, coordinating effective and efficient end-to-end payroll and pensions administration, plus any relevant activity. The People and Culture team overall are a supportive and friendly team, who all have individual personalities and characteristics which bring us together to have a positive working environment as a team. 

Key Responsibilities Include:

• Take ownership of administrative tasks in the payroll and pensions process
• Be a point of contact for enquiries regarding payroll and pensions, to proactively resolve, signpost or seek support on any issues that arise
• Utilise database and HRIS to support payroll and pensions processes and auditing
• Support relevant colleagues to ensure the correct payments, reports, and returns are made to HMRC, pension providers, and other statutory bodies
• Work collaboratively with the wider organisation to ensure consistency of information and processes

About You

We're looking for someone who is methodical, intuitive, and detail-oriented, who is able to tae ownership of your projects and workflows. You will hold some payroll and pensions experience and be ready to hit the ground running, able to use your own initiative to resolve challenges, and support with the running of cycles. You will be comfortable working in a fast paced environment, and will thrive in such circumstances. We're looking for someone who can build good professional relationships with others, and is happy to support the wider team and organisation.

You’ll process purchase orders, handle administration, and manage communal facilities. You’ll also work closely with Residents’ Committees, attend meetings, and liaise with statutory and voluntary organisations to signpost residents to additional support. Occasionally, you may need to respond to emergencies outside normal office hours.

• Experience in housing management and working with older people.
• Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, with clear written and verbal communication.
• Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office, and strong administration abilities.
• Knowledge of health and safety compliance and understanding of care and support needs for older people.
• Line management experience (as you'll be managing a cleaner)
• Ability to manage budgets and work independently while building positive relationships with stakeholders.

The Role

We're looking for an experienced community development worker to lead a portfolio of projects and support the wider Lost Woods team. This is an exciting opportunity to lead the Sussex Community Housing Hub team in providing technical advice and support to communities engaged in rural and community led housing projects.

What you'll be doing

• Guiding community groups through all stages of the housing development process — from vision and site identification through to planning, funding, and scheme delivery
• Advising on site selection, RP partnerships, planning applications, S106 agreements, and funding strategies (both capital and revenue)
• Building and managing relationships with a wide range of partners — communities, RPs, local authorities, planners, developers, and agents
• Supporting communities to access funding and drafting bids where needed
• Overseeing professional advisers (architects, engineers, etc.) commissioned by community groups

• At least 5 years' experience in affordable housing development

HR & financial administration (Approx 20%)

• HR: 

  • HR Software & data ownership, maintenance and ensuring consistency in colleagues use of the software. 

  • Act as the primary point of contact for HR enquiries, accessibility requests, and leave calculation.

  • Act on behalf of the CEO in handling confidential issues with care and restorative intent & liaising with external HR advisor.

• Financial support: In partnership with our Finance Manager, coordinate confidential finance administration, including payroll, pensions, and audit preparation, ensuring all team members are supported by stable financial operations.

• Resource management: Manage IT and Operations budgets.

• Contract management: Oversee the administration of employment contracts and agreements and NDAs for freelancers, as well as internship placements to ensure fair and clear working agreements.

Executive support & governance (Approx 10% of the time)

• Leadership partnership: Support the SLT in strategic direction, planning, and workforce development so they can focus on fundraising, advocacy and high-level impact work.

• Support the CEO on internal communications, business travel, scheduling, diary management, technical assistance.

• Board: Manage all JB Board administration, including arranging quarterly meetings, minutes, etc.

• Funding & tenders: Provide necessary operational and organisational information for funding applications and manage portal processes for payments and offers.

Person Specification

Essential

• HR Expertise: Six to eight years of demonstrable practical experience in designing and implementing People centred strategies with a focus on collaborative leadership rooted in inclusion, equity, diversity and care (six to eight years of experience). We’re particularly interested in someone experienced and/or genuinely interested in participatory design methods that incorporate the lived experiences of a diverse team.

• Operational excellence: Six to eight years of demonstrable practical experience of developing and implementing effective operations strategies and effective systems and processes that enable organisational excellence and staff wellbeing.

The Communications Department inspires, informs and engages the public by showcasing Alzheimer’s Research UK’s mission, impact and scientific progress across all channels. We lead the charity’s media and strategic communications activity, ensuring clear, accurate and compelling storytelling that supports research, fundraising and organisational priorities. The Strategic Communications Officer will be part of the Corporate Communications team – one of several specialist teams in the wider Department.

The Strategic Communications Officer will play an important role in delivering high‑quality campaign and communications activity that supports ARUK’s strategic goals. Reporting to the Corporate Communications Manager, this individual will mainly work collaboratively with colleagues across Brand and Strategic Marketing on our big impact campaigns, as well as supporting the corporate communications team when capacity requires – this could be working with the CEO office, Fundraising or filling a need from the wider team.

The role holder will help to coordinate campaign workflows, gather accurate information, and support the delivery of integrated communications activity. The Strategic Communications Officer will contribute to the smooth running of campaigns by maintaining organised processes, supporting planning and reporting, and helping to produce content that strengthens understanding of dementia and the urgent need for research. The postholder will also help to create engaging, accessible content for cross‑channel campaigns and ensure that messaging is consistent, evidence‑based and aligned with organisational priorities.

Projects to own and drive forward include World Alzheimer’s Month, the Christmas campaign, and other key organisational priorities.

Key Responsibilities:

Delivery & Production

· Support the research and production of campaigns and projects, including the World Alzheimer’s Month, Christmas campaigns and other Brand activity.

· Support on development of communication plans and materials for supporter‑facing activities and campaigns. 

· Write, edit and proof content for campaigns and projects ensuring accuracy and narrative alignment.

· Prepare, write, pitch and issue media stories to generate coverage for our initiatives and campaigns.

Research & Information Support

· Monitor external trends and sector‑relevant topics to inform content and news planning.

Cross‑Team Support & Collaboration

· Work collaboratively with the Brand team, as well as the wider communications teams on shared projects.

· Support internal communications and the social media team for priority campaigns and strategic projects.

· Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders to understand content needs.

· Work closely with teams to ensure their content embodies Alzheimer’s Research UK tone of voice.

Administration, Planning & Coordination

· Provide project coordination support for major cross‑channel campaigns and key organisation publications.

Ways of working:

Our team is growing and we're looking for a skilled, people-focused coordinator to join us in making a real difference for young carers across Dorset.

We are recruiting an Employability Coordinator to plan, coordinate, and deliver our Employability Programme, supporting young carers aged 14 to 25 through key transitions from school into further education, higher education, and work. 

This is more than a programme delivery role. You'll be the primary point of contact for day-to-day activity, building trust with young carers, partnering with schools, colleges, and employers, and making sure every young person gets a consistent, high-quality experience. 

You'll play a key role in growing the programme's reach and impact, designing workshops and events including our Employability Celebration Event and Careers Convention, facilitating our TEMPO group for 14- to 25-year-olds, and opening up 'days in the workplace' that show young carers what's possible.
