An exciting opportunity has arisen for the appointment of a Service Manager in the award-winning Suicide Bereavement Service, delivered by South East London Mind together with partners Mind in Bexley and South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. The service offers a community resource with open access to adults and young people bereaved by suicide across South East London (Bexley, Bromley, Greenwich, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark). The integrated team provides one-to-one and group support, with the aim of reducing the risk of further deaths by suicide in this vulnerable group.

We are seeking an experienced manager to lead this exceptional service. You will manage a team whose members are employed across three organisations, creating a shared sense of purpose while developing a strong understanding of each partner’s processes, policies, professional responsibilities and ways of working. You will build constructive relationships across the partnership, working sensitively and respectfully with colleagues.

Alongside providing operational leadership and strategic input, you will support and guide a uniquely skilled and compassionate team. You will be non-judgmental, caring and resilient, with a good understanding of the issues presented by bereavement through suicide. You will enable meaningful reflective practice and provide appropriate support to staff and volunteers. The role will include direct contact with clients including assessing new referrals, delivering peer support activities and a limited caseload, enabling you to remain closely connected to the experiences and needs of people using the service.

You will be adept at using data and feedback to ensure the service meets its contractual requirements, whilst remaining inclusive and sensitive to service user needs, cultural and local contexts. You will identify trends and conduct targeted outreach and promotion to proactively reach underserved communities. The role will include delivering presentations to a wide range of organisations across South East London.

The team’s office is at the Bethlem Royal Hospital in West Wickham, Bromley. Office days must include Thursdays, with flexibility to attend other offices and locations as required. The role will involve occasional evening and weekend working and regular travel across South East London, including home visits. Although it is possible to fulfil the travel requirements of the role by public transport, this would best suit someone with access to their own mode of transport, such as a car or bicycle.

We encourage applications from people with lived experience of bereavement by suicide, although this is not a requirement for the role.

Successful applicants will be expected to undergo an Enhanced Level Disclosure and Barring Service check.
