The People & Payroll Team plays a critical role in supporting our services to deliver our work. We're a team of nearly 30, and work from our offices in Brasted, Kent, Central London and remotely (with travel to our services).

Job Description

Join Catch22 as our Interim Payroll Specialist and play a central role in delivering a best-in-class payroll service for our people. You’ll lead a proactive, customer-focused payroll function, ensuring colleagues are paid accurately and on time, and supporting smooth onboarding. The Payroll Team is responsible for ensuring that salaries are paid correctly, on time and in compliance with HMRC rules. Based in Brasted (with hybrid working), you’ll oversee all aspects of payroll delivery, manage the iTrent system, and work closely with People, Finance, and the wider organisation. You’ll provide clear payroll advice, mentor people coordinators, and help shape and automate processes for an excellent user experience.

We’re looking for someone with initiative, strong payroll expertise, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively to improve efficiency and support our inclusive culture. As the Payroll Specialist you will be solely responsible for ensuring that the organisation’s payroll and pension schemes are run in the most efficient manner, ensuring accurate payments are made to staff on time, and ensuring that all tax law and other associated regulations are complied with. You will have the ability to demonstrate initiative and a proactive approach to work, be able and comfortable to work unsupervised and work across teams to solve problems and to be able to improve the efficiency of the existing processes. You will also need to manage various priorities and work within tight deadlines and provide an excellent customer focused service to every customer whether internal or external and ensure that issues are resolved on the first occasion wherever possible. You will develop close working relationships with colleagues in the People Services team as well as other key corporate and group functions to promote best practice to achieve accurate payroll processing.

Experience

We are looking for someone that has:

• A full membership (or equivalent) of the Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals and a commitment to continuous learning
• Degree or relevant professional qualification
• Knowledge of MHR iTrent System
• Systems and digital solutions knowledge
• HMRC guidance and pension legislation knowledge
• Strong knowledge of payroll regulations, legislation and procedures.
• Proficiency in payroll software - iTrent / People First
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
• Payroll system set up and implementation experience
• Ability to handle confidential information with integrity
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills
• The ability to work effectively under pressure

Additional information

• Salary in the range of £49,000 to £53,000 per annum
• Hours: Full time, 37 hours a week, Monday-Friday - 9 am-5 pm.
• Contract: This role is for a 6 month fixed term.
• Location: Rectory Lodge, High Street, Brasted. We can offer hybrid working in this role, with a minimum of 2-3 days in the Brasted office. Equipment required to work from home will be supplied.

About the Role:

You will provide high quality support to all victims and witnesses of crime and Anti-Social Behaviour, leading on completing initial impact and risk assessments that are comprehensive and holistic. You will also provide cover for the local VS Helpline.

Key Responsibilities:

• Act as the first point of contact for service users referred in to the service, completing comprehensive impact and risks assessments using agreed processes and a tailoring the response to each individual's needs.
• Manage a caseload of service users who require more immediate and short term interventions, referring on those with more long term needs either internally or externally.
• Develop support plans where appropriate.
• Maintain accurate and confidential case management records and contribute to monitoring information for the service and provide accurate and timely performance information for internal and external use.
• Respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns including both child protection and vulnerable adult issues.
• Ensure that everyone is aware of their rights under the Victim's Code of Practice and the Witness Charter..
• Comply and keep up to date with all relevant legislation, policies and procedures, including data protection legislation, confidentiality.
• Work as part of a team to ensure that all outcomes and Key Performance Measures are met relevant to the local contract.

Ideally you will have:

• Experience of delivering a service and working directly with service users in a statutory, voluntary or community work setting
• Experience of working in an outcomes focused service
• Knowledge of the criminal justice system and the impact of crime
• Knowledge and understanding of Domestic Abuse processes and services
• Experience of engaging with vulnerable victims of crime who may have complex needs

The Insight Consultant sits within NUS’ Communications team, working closely with colleagues across campaigns, policy and membership. The Communications team plays a critical role in shaping how NUS tells its story, influences decision-makers, and amplifies student voices. Insight is central to this work, ensuring our communications and campaigns are grounded in robust evidence and a deep understanding of students’ experiences.

What we need

We are looking for an Insight Consultant to lead the design and delivery of research that strengthens NUS’ communications, campaigns and public narrative. This role ensures that our messaging, media work and influencing activity are informed by credible, timely and inclusive insight from students and students’ unions.

You will play a vital role in planning and delivering national student surveys, managing qualitative and quantitative research projects, and translating findings into compelling insight that supports communications and campaigning activity. You will work closely with communications colleagues to ensure research outputs are accessible, engaging and usable across a range of channels.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working at the intersection of research and communications, and who is motivated by using evidence to shape narratives, challenge power and create change for students.

You should have experience of designing and managing research projects, including surveys and other data collection methods, and of presenting insight in ways that resonate with different audiences. Experience of working with communications, campaigns or public-facing teams is highly desirable.

This position offers a unique opportunity to combine research expertise with communications and campaigning impact, helping to shape NUS’ public narrative and strengthen the collective voice of students and students’ unions across the UK.

We want to be as flexible as possible in this role, so we’re open to 28 – 35 hours across 4 or 5 days per week and would consider less hours and/or a job share. You can either do this role from our Stockport office or hybrid based partly in Stockport and partly at home.

Can you use your health expertise to shape our humanitarian health response?

UK-Med is a frontline medical aid charity. Born of the NHS, we’ve been working for over 30 years towards a world where everyone has the healthcare they need when crises or disasters hit.

We are seeking a small number of health professionals to join us as part-time Health Referents to build on the health expertise in our core team. Our core Health Team has significant expertise in humanitarian healthcare and has always brought in additional expert support through consultancies when required. Following a period of significant growth, we are looking to bring specific expertise into the core team on an ongoing basis through a group of part-time Health Referents.

Our Health Referents will bring specific technical expertise in a variety to health fields to ensure that UK-Med’s programme design and implementation remain in line with current best practice.

As a Health Referent, you will provide clinical / technical health expertise and advice, contributing to our work through:

• Advising and guiding our health teams in humanitarian contexts in their planning and work
• Helping design SOPs, policies, and guidance documents for your field of expertise
• Developing capacity building interventions (e.g. training sessions, online learning packages, coaching) to develop skills of UK-Med personnel and our partners (e.g. Ministry of Health staff, other NGOs)
• Helping to ensure we have the right people working in humanitarian responses by shaping role descriptions, person specifications, selection interview questions and model answers
• Working on programme design and proposal preparation for work linked to your expertise
• Contribution to quality assurance and after-action reviews of health activities

Our ideal candidates will be a highly skilled health professionals with significant experience of humanitarian health responses. You will be flexible enough to respond to urgent requests, and able to deliver against longer-term objectives working independently with minimal guidance.
