About the role:
Sometimes, the biggest step towards stability starts with someone who refuses to give up on you. As an Assertive Outreach Worker in our Westminster Floating Support service, you'll build meaningful relationships with people experiencing multiple disadvantage, helping them overcome barriers, sustain their accommodation and take positive steps towards a more independent future.
Working across Westminster and temporary accommodation placements in other London boroughs, you'll provide intensive, flexible support to people who may be experiencing mental ill health, substance use and housing instability. Through psychologically informed and trauma-informed approaches, you'll work alongside clients to identify their goals, build confidence and access the support they need. Whether that's navigating housing challenges, improving wellbeing, engaging with treatment services or exploring employment and training opportunities, you'll help turn individual goals into meaningful progress.
You'll be part of a specialist team that believes in collaboration, creativity and doing things differently. Working closely with mental health services, substance use treatment providers, housing teams and other partners, you'll advocate for clients, challenge barriers to accessing services and ensure their voices remain central to decisions about their support. You'll also play a key role in developing person-centred support plans, managing risks and safeguarding concerns, and contributing to approaches that improve outcomes for people experiencing multiple disadvantage.
At Single Homeless Project (SHP), we're committed to helping our colleagues grow alongside the people we support. You'll have opportunities to develop your knowledge of psychologically informed practice, strengthen your skills through training, supervision and shared learning, and gain valuable experience working within a specialist, multi-agency service. Whether you're looking to deepen your expertise or take the next step in your career, we'll support your professional development while you make a lasting difference.
About you:
- You know that building trust takes time, and you're skilled at engaging people who may have experienced trauma, mental ill health, substance use or involvement with the criminal justice system. You bring patience, empathy and determination to every interaction.
- You're passionate about breaking down barriers, with a strong understanding of multiple disadvantage and how trauma-informed, person-centred approaches can help people regain control over their lives.
- You're a natural relationship builder and a confident advocate, experienced in bringing together different services and professionals to challenge obstacles, find creative solutions and achieve better outcomes for clients.
- You understand what it takes to help someone sustain their home, bringing practical knowledge of housing-related support, safeguarding and relevant legislation, alongside the confidence to identify and respond to risks.
- You thrive in a role where no two days look the same, balancing the demands of a busy caseload with strong organisational skills, flexibility and a proactive approach to supporting people through change.
About us:
We’re London’s leading homelessness charity – and we get things done.
In a city where hundreds are forced into homelessness every day, our work has never been more needed or more challenging. And we’re not shying away. We’re rolling up our sleeves to make change and helping over 10,000 Londoners every year. We prevent homelessness, provide safe places to live and give people the opportunity to rebuild their lives and transform their futures. And we never give up.
We’re here for Londoners wherever they are on their journey. We start with trust, building relationships that help people feel safe, supported, and ready to move forward. Every day, we put people first in everything we do, challenging injustice and barriers that keep people from the safety, stability and opportunity they deserve. We stand alongside people as they rebuild and shape a future that feels their own.
Joining Single Homeless Project means joining a team that’s bold, compassionate and determined to do better for the people we support and for each other. You’ll work alongside colleagues with lived experience, in a space that’s trans-inclusive, disability-friendly, and actively striving to be anti-oppressive and equitable.
We’re not perfect, but we’re real. We listen. We learn. And we push forward, together. Because this isn’t just a job. It’s a chance to lead with empathy, spark change, and help build a London where no one is left behind.
