Job description

Help unpaid carers get the support they deserve. Join a friendly, dedicated team making a real difference in Tower Hamlets.

At Carers Centre Tower Hamlets, we believe no one should have to navigate the challenges of caring alone. Every day, we help unpaid carers access the advice, practical support and opportunities they need to improve their lives.

We're looking for a compassionate, organised and approachable Carers Support Worker – Benefits & Entitlements to join our team for three days a week.

About the role

This is a rewarding, hands-on role where you'll help carers overcome the practical barriers that can prevent them from accessing financial support and essential services.

You'll support carers with:

  • Basic welfare benefit checks and applications, including Carer's Allowance and Universal Credit.

  • Blue Badge and Freedom Pass applications.

  • Financial assessment forms and other essential paperwork.

  • Accessing grants and other sources of financial assistance.

  • Finding appropriate specialist support, including debt, immigration and welfare rights advice.

You don't need to be a specialist welfare rights adviser. We're looking for someone who is confident working with people, comfortable navigating forms and online systems, and able to explain information clearly and sensitively.

Why join us?

You'll be part of a small, committed team working at the heart of the Tower Hamlets community. We value collaboration, compassion and the knowledge and experience our staff bring to their work.

This is an opportunity to develop your skills, work alongside experienced colleagues and see the difference your support makes to carers and their families.

About you

You'll be a good communicator, patient, organised and confident using digital systems. You'll enjoy solving practical problems and supporting people from a wide range of backgrounds.

Experience of supporting people with benefit applications, advice services or community-based support would be particularly welcome.

Above all, we're looking for someone who shares our commitment to making services and support more accessible to unpaid carers.

The details

  • Salary: £27,810 FTE (£16,686 per annum pro rata)

  • Hours: 21 hours per week (3 days)

  • Location: Carers Centre Tower Hamlets, Stepney, London E1 0SG, with outreach as required

  • Contract: Fixed-term until 31 March 2029, subject to continued funding

Interested?

If you're passionate about helping people, enjoy practical problem-solving and want to make a meaningful difference in your community, we'd love to hear from you.

We welcome applications from people with diverse backgrounds and experiences and are committed to equality, diversity and inclusion.
