We are looking for a passionate individual with experience working with vulnerable people, to dedicate the next part of their career to supporting survivors of modern slavery with independent living needs, legal challenges, psycho-social needs and future plans.

You will become part of a vibrant team who are passionate experts in survivor support.Your input will ensure that our beneficiaries with complex needs receive the highest standard of support and advocacy in a way that empowers them to move forwards in to independence.  You will also provide training and supervision and work closely with our volunteer caseworkers who provide support to beneficiaries with less complex needs.  Every day is different at Snowdrop.  You could be dealing with crisis siutations, completing long-term care plans, advocating for an indivuals rights, taking part in national policy discussion or designing and running training.

You will need to have a proven track record of providing this type of support to vulnerable people; can demonstrate skills that make you approachable and trustworthy; enjoy working both independently and as part of a team; and can keep good written records.

Our team in Camden has an exciting new opportunity for a Women Specialist Advocate to join the WiSER project, based in Camden. You will join us on a fixed term basis until the end of March 2025 (with the possibility of extension subject to ongoing funding.)

The WiSER Project is a partnership of specialist charities working together to provide support and advocacy for women whose experiences of violence and abuse intersect with multiple and severe disadvantage. We work with women who are frequently excluded from mainstream services and/or find it hard to engage with support, which increases their vulnerability and risk. Our assertive outreach approach enables women to access support, increase their self-esteem, and make safe choices.

About the Women Specialist Advocate role:

We are looking for an experienced, dynamic Specialist Advocate to join our advocacy and support team in Camden, with a specific remit to reach and support women facing multiple disadvantage. You will work intensively with a small caseload of women as part of a multidisciplinary team, collaborating extensively with external agencies.

You will be able to demonstrate knowledge of the intersection between severe and multiple disadvantage and Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) and have a strong understanding of how this can make it difficult for women to engage with support. You will have worked with people experiencing various aspects of severe and multiple disadvantage: homelessness, substance use, mental health issues, insecure immigration status, prostitution, offending history and children taken in to care. Most importantly, you will be committed to improving services and life chances for women affected by VAWG who are experiencing severe and multiple disadvantage.

Please note: This service is run by women for women and is therefore restricted to women applicants under the Equality Act 2010, Schedule 9, Part 1. The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act.

About you:

• An excellent understanding of the issues faced by women survivors of VAWG, including a knowledge of options for and rights of women experiencing all forms of VAWG.
• The ability to take a resilient and assertive approach to reaching out to and building trust and positive relationships with women who are experiencing multiple disadvantage, and who may present as reluctant to engage and/or may be presenting in crisis.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage with a wide range of professionals (some of whom may have very different approaches to problem solving) through a multi-agency approach, and advocate to agencies on behalf of the Project and its service users.
• A demonstrable commitment to providing a non-judgemental, non-directive and empowering approach to supporting women.
• A high level of personal organisation with the ability to plan and prioritise your own work.

We are looking for a Children’s Independent Sexual Violence Advisor (ChISVA) to provide advocacy and support to children and young people (up to the age of 17) and their families who have been victims of sexual violence including child sexual abuse and child sexual exploitation.

The role:

Our ChISVA service was launched in 2018 to support children and young people (aged 4 to 17 years) and their families who have been impacted by rape, sexual abuse and child sexual exploitation across Thames Valley. They will work closely with the Police Service, Sexual Assault Referral Centre, CPS, and other relevant organisations. 

The role will involve extensive travel across the Thames Valley, working with clients in schools as well as other professional locations.

Supervision and ongoing support will be provided.

Young Adult Carers Service Coordinator

Carers’ Hub works to improve carers’ lives in Lambeth through quality services and community engagement. We are an independent local charity, who work with carers aged five upwards. Whether financial, educational or otherwise, they seek to limit the challenges that carers face and achieve this by improving carer’s wellbeing, connecting carers to support and training opportunities, awareness raising and influencing local policy. We are now recruiting for a Young Adult Carers Service Coordinator to join our team.

As the Young Adult Carers Service Coordinator you will: 

• Deliver an engaging, accessible range of workshops, social activities and one to one support for our young adult carers, working to targets and ensuring timely and accurate reporting to funders.

• Support the wider young carers service by being a first point of contact for telephone and email enquiries. 

• Develop external relationships and communications in a way that promotes the welfare of carers in Lambeth and enhances the image of the organisation.

• Support the planning and facilitation of group activity sessions and events. 

• Work in a needs-led, strength-based approach to partner with individuals to develop support plans to build resilience and support them to connect into the community. 

• Networking and building partnerships with local organisations and professionals to enhance the work of Rebuild in the local community. 

• To provide mental health first aid to mitigate the aftereffects of trauma caused by trafficking, sexual abuse, rape, domestic slavery or forced labour. 

• Keep accurate records for monitoring and evaluation purposes. 

• Some very occasional weekend and evening work may be required. 

• Make an active contribution to the overall work of Rebuild through team meetings, staff training, awareness and fundraising events, and any other appropriate activities. 

• Keep up to date with all organisational procedures, policies and professional codes of conduct and work towards best practice.

In the right candidate we are looking for someone who can evidence the following: 

• At least 1 year’s previous experience in a support setting. Preferred experience of working with people who have been affected by abuse, trafficking, homelessness, mental health, complex needs, offenders and/or refugees. 

• Awareness of Trauma Informed Practice. 

• Proven knowledge of working with community organisations and signposting to different services. 

• Ability to advocate for the needs of those we work with. 

• Proven experience of carrying out needs and/or risk assessments and the support planning process. 

• An empathetic and compassionate outlook, whilst being able to maintain professional boundaries with those you work with. 

• The ability to develop and maintain good professional relationships.  

• Able to react effectively to highly pressured situations. 

• Strong communication skills with proven writing ability. 

• Discretion and work in accordance with the Data Protection Act. 

• Good people skills especially with those whom English is not the first language. 

• Proven knowledge of safeguarding policies and procedures relating to adults and children and young people. 

• Valid employment rights to work in the UK. 

• The post holder will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS check. 

• The candidate will need to have a vehicle and valid driving licence. Mileage costs to be reimbursed.
