The Opportunity

We are partnering with a well-respected national charity to recruit an experienced Senior Financial Accounting Manager on a six-month fixed-term contract.

This is a key leadership role within the finance function, responsible for ensuring the organisation maintains strong financial controls, robust governance, statutory compliance and high-quality financial reporting. Reporting to the Head of Finance, the successful candidate will lead the Financial Accounting team whilst playing a vital role in supporting senior leadership, external auditors and trustees.

This opportunity would suit a qualified accountant who enjoys combining strategic oversight with hands-on financial leadership in a purpose-driven organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the Financial Accounting team, ensuring the delivery of an efficient and effective finance service.
  • Oversee all financial accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management and balance sheet control.
  • Ensure compliance with charity accounting requirements, SORP, tax and regulatory obligations.
  • Lead the year-end process, statutory accounts preparation and external audit.
  • Support the Head of Finance with reporting to senior leadership, committees and trustees.
  • Provide proactive advice on taxation, VAT and Gift Aid matters.
  • Review and strengthen financial controls, processes and governance frameworks.
  • Lead and support finance systems and process improvement projects.
  • Work collaboratively across the wider organisation to promote a customer-focused finance function.
  • Maintain robust financial systems and high standards of financial data integrity.
  • Act as a hands-on leader, supporting the team directly when operational priorities require.
  • Help with the charity sorp changes.

Candidate Profile

We are seeking a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with strong technical accounting expertise and experience operating in a complex organisation.

You will bring:

  • Strong financial accounting experience, ideally within the charity or not-for-profit sector.
  • Working knowledge of Charity SORP and charity accounting regulations.
  • Significant experience leading statutory accounts preparation and external audits.
  • Proven ability to review and improve financial controls and processes.
  • Experience managing and developing finance teams.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, including the ability to communicate complex financial information to non-finance audiences.
  • Excellent analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • A collaborative and proactive approach, with a willingness to be hands-on when required.
  • Strong Excel and financial systems experience.

Why Apply?

This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly regarded organisation during an important period, providing visible leadership and making a meaningful contribution to the effectiveness and governance of the finance function.

The organisation offers flexible hybrid working and is open to considering both fixed-term and interim day-rate candidates with the right experience.
