About Alongside:

Alongside is the new name for Julian House. We work with people experiencing social exclusion across the South and West of England, providing outreach, accommodation and support. Our clients may be sleeping rough, fleeing abuse, rebuilding after trauma, leaving prison, recovering from addiction, or trying to settle safely in a new community. Whatever their starting point, we work alongside people to help build safety, stability and independence.

If you’d like a real sense of job satisfaction, great career prospects and a competitive benefits package, you could be who we’re looking for!

About the role:

Join us as a Relief Hostel Support Worker (Days) and become a vital part of our dedicated team at the Manvers Street Hostel—a service that operates 24/7, 365 days a year, supporting rough sleepers on their journey out of homelessness.

In this dynamic role, you’ll help create a safe and welcoming environment during the day shift. Your responsibilities will include carrying out regular health and safety checks through patrols, monitoring the premises via CCTV, and ensuring everything runs smoothly. You’ll also play a key part in maintaining accurate client records, helping us deliver the highest standard of support.

Every shift is an opportunity to make a real difference—providing reassurance, safety, and support to those who need it most. If you’re passionate about helping people and thrive in a role where no two days are the same, we’d love to hear from you!

Responsibilities include:

  • Give clients advice and information, providing an enabling service so they can access the appropriate services
  • Ensure all clients are provided with a high-quality person-centred service
  • Maintain client records so they are accurate and fully updated
  • Responsible for the day-to-day health and safety, and safe running of the hostel

Since job descriptions cannot be exhaustive, the post holder may be required to undertake other duties, which are broadly in line with the above key responsibilities.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Empathy and understanding of the needs of Alongside clients
  • Good communication skills to build relationships with clients and external agencies

As part of this role, you’ll need to complete practical first aid training. This will be included in your induction, and you’ll have two attempts to successfully complete and pass the assessment.

There are many great reasons to join our team!

  • Great opportunities for career development and free monthly training sessions from experienced facilitators
  • 30% staff discount at our charity shops
  • Annual leave entitlement (paid for each hour worked)
  • For all the fantastic and valuable work you’ll be doing, you’ll be eligible for the Blue Light Card which offers amazing discounts on thousands of brands
  • A real sense of job satisfaction
