Job description

Best Beginnings is an established high-profile national charity with the primary purpose of tackling child health inequalities and enabling parents to help give their children the best start in life, regardless of income or background. We are at the leading-edge of developing innovative solutions to support parents, families and professionals to offer the highest quality of care and life opportunities to children from pre-conception to the third birthday. Since the formation of the charity in 2007, Best Beginnings has developed and successfully activated digital and non-digital support for parents and healthcare professionals across the UK. We are an ambitious charity and are pursuing a strategy for growth to ensure that our resources have the maximum reach and positive impact where help is most needed in the UK and internationally. 

 

The Role  

The Communications and Engagement Lead will work closely with our Head of Fundraising and also the Operations team to support, develop and implement the charity’s marketing and communication strategy and further develop our engagement work across the charity.  

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities :

Content Creation & Development:

  1. Support and implement the charity’s marketing and communication strategy for the organisation. 

  2. Lead strategic communications to drive the impact of our campaigns and messaging, grow our profile and increase our influence  

  3. Bring innovation and best practice to your role, blending creative thinking with organisational operations and strategy. 

  4. Bring digital product marketing experience to the team to ensure the app and technical team are supported in their communications and that our implementation team are supported with their projects.  

  5. Be a key point of contact for organisational communications and support the delivery of the organisational campaigns and messaging.  

  6. Planning and approving regular communications to be sent out to stakeholders, including reports, social media, website updates and newsletters 

  7. Managing our social media channels and website, supporting and creating relevant content and graphics for our work.  

  8. Measuring analytics of social media, website, and newsletters through monthly reports to understand the impact on audience engagement and growth (reflecting KPIs) and develop a deep understanding of our demographics and potential new audiences. 

  9. Supporting the development of assets and content for our projects and campaigns work, and playing a key role in the visibility and reach of our campaigns, which may include working with the media.  

  10. Creating communications plans for events, campaigns and projects and developing promotional material 

 

Wider communications and engagement : 

  1. Managing design and content requests from the teams for marketing and pr purposes 

  2. Managing and developing our communications assets with the team  

  3. Overseeing the development of Google Ads and other online/offline advertising support 

  4. Coordinating media enquiries  

  5. Working with fundraising to support the design of marketing materials for appeals 

  6. Supporting the recruitment and management of communications volunteers  

  7. Support parent and professional engagement within the charity. Managing our relationships with new parents and users plus supporting our ongoing development of partners. 

  8. Act as a positive representative for the charity and to model the values and principles of the charity in all dealings with funders, strategic partners, staff and service users. 

  9. Work in accordance with Best Beginnings’ policies, procedures and values. 

 

Flexibility 

The role description is a general outline of duties and responsibilities and may be amended as Best Beginnings develops and the role grows. The post holder may be required to undertake other duties as may be reasonably required from time to time. 

 

Person Specification: Communications and Engagement Lead : 

  1.  Proven experience in implementing marketing and communications strategy, preferably in a charitable organisation.  (essential)
  2. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and attention to detail. (essential)
  3. Experience in supporting a team of exceptional talent and creating a culture of innovation, commitment and achieving results. (essential)
  4. Proven experience of working with a range of stakeholders including communities, health professionals and voluntary sector partners, and the ability to represent communities and their need. (essential)
  5. An understanding of the early years/maternity sector. (desirable)
  6. Ability to prioritise workload and work under pressure. (essential)
  7. An understanding and passion for health equity and child health including a commitment to the vision, aims and principles of Best Beginnings. (essential)
  8. Understanding of digital media platforms and the way in which digital media can be used to deliver strategic and operational priorities. (essential)
  9. Competent computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and competent in using digital technology to support communication with diverse audiences ( eg: MailChimp, Hootsuite, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva). (essential)
  10. Ability to strategise and think about the larger brand image and create engaging emails, social media posts and blogs. (essential)  
  11. Confident in managing and leading internal and external meetings, including task delegation. (essential)  

 

 

Start Date: Immediate – but flexible. 

Full time: 35 hours per week
